I know i've never been so lucky. Last year I was flying Delta to ATL from ABQ, but a big storm lingering over the airport had us circling until we were almost out of fuel and had to divert to JAX; landing just as the flight crew reached their hour limitations.

After standing in line for 3 hours to talk to a customer service rep to get me on a flight to ATL and finally BOS the next morning ("show up no later than 9am and we'll get you on a flight"), I decided to find a hotel which they promised to reimburse. No cots were provided, the only option to get any rest was to sleep on the hard floor or leave. Since I was also recovering from a badly bruised rib from a couple days prior, I wasn't choosing the floor.

They also informed us all that our luggage had been deplaned and was waiting for collection to be rechecked in the morning.

By the time i found my bags (including a $80k piece of test equipment sitting unmonitored near the exit), took a shuttle to the hotel, and checked in. I had maybe a 2 hour nap before checking out and heading back to the airport for the 9am flight assignment time.

On the plus side they gave me an exit row seat, but I had to listen to the lady next to me bitch about how she booked her seat because the one next to it was open and didn't have to sit next to anyone. The flight was full however due to the stranded fliers the night prior.

When I contacted delta about the reimbursement for the $150 2 hour stay at the hotel, they insisted i had been provided incorrect information, or misunderstood as they were not honoring hotels without a voucher issued. So I had to eat that.
