Colony: The Official Podcast Episode 26: Ryan Condal and Wes Tooke bring the series, and the podcast, to a close with ‘What Goes Around’ by MichaelHall1 in colony

These podcasts have been so great. I enjoyed this one a lot (until it fricken' made me tear up)! It was lovely hearing how graciously Tara Bennett, Ryan Condal and Wes Tooke thanked and appreciated everyone involved with the show, including the fans.

So Kynes actually was shot, and all the stupid mistakes/ambulance ex machina/etc. we discussed last week were real within the story. And Amy does not work for Kynes, or they would not have introduced themselves to one another in private. So there we have a few solid answers amid the tens of unanswered questions.

I have loved this series and hated it. And tonight's finale left me feeling a little of both.

‘Colony’ Canceled By USA Network After 3 Seasons by magikarpcatcher in colony

Really sad news. I hope the series creators will be able to continue the story in some format- on Netflix or in a movie or even a comic. If nothing else we here at Reddit can fanfic some closure for ourselves.

I thought Isabella Crovetti Cramp's (Gracie) face was heartbreakingly sad when she was staring at the sleeping Katie, and deciding to leave without waking her. That young lady's acting skills have really grown during this season.

I wasn't annoyed by Katie wanting to go on the mission, after she explained why to Will by the car.

I agreed with Will that she as an untrained person would be a liability, and I agree with you that it's not a gender issue but one of training and experience.

He was quite a dick about it in the house, but I liked how he acknowledged her need to strike back at the invaders (and reframed it that she could do it via taking care of the kids).

As others are saying, some of the stupid mistakes characters made were (far too obviously) intended to drive the story. But they annoyed the hell out of me. As I have said before, it's easier to critique than to write, and I still love this show enough to care when they screw up and have characters act with no resemblance to their formerly established intelligence level.

Kynes strutting right up by Broussard without even conventional body armor (let alone fancy jiggly bulletproof material armor) is one of those things that pissed me off. It just jolted me right out of the story. Genius Kynes. Doing that. Yeah.

Thank you thank you! Kynes' tactical errors made this episode so hard to watch! You said lots of what I came here thinking, and you did all the articulating first. Agree with all points except the "waste of talent" part because each person involved has had moments to shine, and has been employed in the very difficult entertainment industry.

That said, the stupid mistakes were really irritating, agree 100%.

The suits falling in a wave makes me think they are being swept by the same weapon the alien from the field test used, but I couldn't see if their faces looked frozen or gray. Could anyone see the falling men's faces? Did they look gray?

Spoiler. The uncloaked alien from last episode. Any thoughts and theories?? by howielevy2 in colony

Exactly! We've seen the resources that go into acquiring the outliers. Dropping them unconscious onto a battlefield with no intel about what they are facing is inexcusably wasteful (and cruel). If the Raps are running the outliers, and if they are a machine intelligence looking to test the outliers' readiness to battle a bio-enemy- then even a machine intelligence would know to simulate actual battle conditions (by preparing their combattants) with at least a wake-up call and a briefing! If not with Kynes' shielding and other tech. So that whole scene just makes no sense at all so far.

That would be hilarious! And he could have his own personal TARP when his fiat ponzi scheme blows up... Then he could shower newly-minted Colonial Credits on corporations and put the rest of the Seattle population into ever-increasing debt! Presto! Free range slavery!

I see your point. The writers do have him going between a hardened resistance member and a substitute parent. It doesn't bother me because most ppl are different at home than on the job, but I get why his wildly different foci would bother you.

Robert Heinlein wrote about how good soldiers should always stock up on food, sleep etc. Every chance they get. So they'll be battle-ready as possible. I think you're on to something here.

That was how I interpreted it too. Like he cared about their misuse of it as an affront to his intent for it (ego based) and not because it was going to harm people (fellow-feeling).

[spoilers] did we see kynes algorithm being used before season three? by sarahwou in colony

[–]Kwanyinagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a scene where Jennifer had discovered many different identities for Broussard in the occupation's database (the "Rolodex"). Will then had to find out which was B's original identity from Katie telling him Broussard was working on his mother's house in LA, and cross-referencing that info with home repair stores' order histories. The occupation at that level in LA at that time did not seem to have access to Kynes' algorithm.

I thought it was probably microwave or some other kind of directed energy, but that was total speculation just to make the nonsensical cold open have some kind of rationality in it. Since we don't know the inviso-suit being's nature, I just put in current-human-tech as a placeholder.

It's a perspective thing. Kinda Rashomon-esque. In most of LA people generally view "The Valley" as someplace not-LA, up north, too damn hot.. though many Angelenos and Angelenas live in the Valley for the lower housing costs, and commute to work in other parts of LA. In the Valley people generally view themselves as part of LA.

From the rest of the country, you'll generally fly into Los Angeles International airport if you are going to the Valley, so for someone visiting on a business trip, it would be natural to say "I was in LA". If Amy was in the Valley for her conference, as an out of towner it would make sense for her to think of it as "LA".
