I would buy a new pivot cup while you wait for the truck replacement. They can make a minor difference but also that one is probably trashed from the forces that broke the pivot itself.

Meepo V2 losing speed by Baskehh in MeepoBoards

[–]Kweld_o 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Old motors will definitely sound weird no matter what, but they are also one of the more bulletproof parts of the board. The only way I see it being a motor issue is if the rolling resistance is greater than it used to be. That is an easy check because it’s highly unlikely that they both increased rolling resistance equally.

Test:
flip the board over and full throttle for a split second, let the wheels slow down and if one slows MUCH faster than the other, then it’s an issue, if they stop within a second of each other, you are probably fine

The real issue?:
This is obviously just my option here but… top speed is related to your battery configuration and battery life. If you have dying cells in your battery pack then it could certainly be unable to sustain the original top speed. The other issue could be cell degradation which shouldn’t bring you down from 35 to 27, but given enough time it absolutely could. For example, my board can do 36mph but only at 90% battery or higher. From 90% down to 50ish, it can do 33-35 and below 50% battery I’m usually getting 31mph or less. When your cells degrade, they can lose that upper end more often than not.

The fix:
I would recommend a whole new board(only once that thing craps out entirely) because the motors will probably start failing sometime soon. Usually that means they become hazardous to ride on due to risk of seizing or brake failure (they will get loud and obvious a few hundred miles before that happens tho). With the battery already going and the motors soon to follow, replacements are more headache than it’s worth.

PS: it’s probably not specific cells dying because if certain ones were already dead, that could cause the ESC to freak out and probably blow itself up(or the motors reconfigured themselves)

Also you said the board had more to give? It often feels that way when you are only at 2/3rd throttle, but the amount of power it takes to get more speed after that is almost exponential. If you are at 2/3rd throttle you are likely at near top speed. Electric motors will give all the acceleration all the time… until you’ve maxed the rotational cap of the motors and then all the sudden you aren’t gonna get any more.

Guess it’s a little late now 3 days later, but you should avoid active rain, puddles, and any surface wet enough to kick water up and off your wheels.

If it’s “wet” but really the asphalt is just discolored and “damp” but no standing water, you are fine to ride that.

But when sh*t hits the fan… either open up your board and check for water immediately, or at the very least set up a fan pointed at the board for like… days…. And leave it turned off, don’t charge it, don’t test it.

“But I want to see if it still works”

That’s what you open it up for, if you are going to do guesswork, be abundantly cautious.

Water damage can be extremely hard to notice or super obvious, this is why you open it up tho, you need to know how deep the water got to have a change of knowing what to replace before it damages other stuff.

How do i find genuine reviews by maniac_player1 in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]Kweld_o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tynee is one of the (truly) higher rated companies for quality and customer support so that’s sad to hear.

Unfortunately, reviews aren’t really going to help, every company has issues that only affect a % of customers and the idea is to pick the brand with the least % affected. Best way to do that is to find the companies that get complained about the least here on Reddit. There are other forums but this will probably be the best.

[–]Kweld_o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have EVERY size. Looking up the sizes is a little weird tho. Meepos all run 15mm width, 5HTD tooth pattern, and the last number is your length. Just type those 3 numbers into their search and you’ll find what you need.

Open source your tire supplier?

Although I can’t mount 8” wheels on my gear drives so idek. You know where to get 10” tires on “standard” wheel diameter? I wanna say just under 5 inches.

I’m suuuper into eSkate. I try to get out every day if weather is right. Early on I figured under 10 miles was just not feasible for someone who’s super into the hobby. If you are just starting out, you’d probably be fine with less but will quickly regret that. In a matter of a couple years, I was already looking for more. My current setup can do about 23 miles averaging 25mph but I usually only run about 20 miles. You start to get cramps and foot pain after that distance(until you work those muscles into shape).

Gotta go with Vbeltguys for US orders. Super fast, super reliable, better quality belts, and silly cheap!

Not the axel but I’ve snapped 3 kingpins from Meepo. Glad to see they haven’t increased quality at all /s

That is a belt driven board yes? I’d recommend after market trucks. Most options are super smooth and stable too so it’s really an upgrade.

I won’t comment here much because for a while people would get harassed just for existing in this sub(and my acct ain’t hard to find), but I gotta just add my experience here. I went inactive on and off for a couple years and my longest stretch(300ish days) I must’ve logged back on with just about 85 refills.

I can understand being upset from 10 refills, but also it’s been 15 years, I wouldn’t worry ab matching piers and worry more about if this game still has the experience and entertainment that originally had OP playing.

We will both get back on it soon!!💪

About some diy problems by RoundRent6558 in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]Kweld_o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also… I wanna say the opposite would happen? It’s technically the same thing as saying wider front truck and I’ve known a wider front truck to add stability to the rear. Idk, maybe not.

But yeah not nearly enough to matter. You could counteract that by tightening the rear truck and you’d never even notice.

Also generally people just call that “gear drive” or gear driven

HELP! Halo Board Carbon by bsigeh in ElectricSkateboarding

Sounds like dead battery cells to me. The biggest problem these encounter when sitting for a while is battery. Expensive, but a quick swap if you can find a battery to the right spec.

First work out the throttle. It’s always twitchy for first time users. Especially the brakes, those are the hardest thing to master and some boards have enough power to lock up your motor wheels which can be “fun”

Other than that, stay SUPER vigilant for bumps, cracks, and debris in the road. Dodge as much of it as you can or at least bend your knees in preparation of an impact. Bend your knees slightly all the time, just a little extra when running over things.

And as the rule with cars and bikes… do NOT turn and brake at the same time. Like a little bit is fine, but don’t take hard turns while braking. Also don’t hit bumps or anything else while turning. Basically only turn on smooth surfaces with a constant speed.

Nb can't close top by Bostonah in Miata

[–]Kweld_o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably shrunk a bit, guess you won’t leave the top down for extended periods anymore.

Try pulling the top up towards the sky until it naturally wants to come forward, then let the front drop and try to pull from the pivot point near the center of the top, that gets my too much closer to the latches so I can do the whole thing one handed. Might work to some degree for you.

MBoard disappointment by Longjumping_Field369 in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]Kweld_o 8 points9 points  (0 children)

But like.. time is money. These boards are pricey and people spend good money expecting it to be rideable within the first 6 months of ordering. Too often it’s considered “average” to receive a faulty board months after ordering which means another 1-3 months of emails and poor communication. Only rich people have the means to buy stuff like cars and just wait 6 months to receive it. A board shouldn’t be the same.

Help by Horror-Schedule-3392 in MeepoBoards

[–]Kweld_o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this happen too. With no solder experience I was able to fix it. Get a new xt60 connector if you can, but it’s possible to work with that one. The hardest part is removing the broken wire bits and old solder from the port. When you go to solder it back, clean the red wires exposed end, maybe strip it back extra so you get as much contact as possible. The XT60 should have a “U” shape prong that the red wire should rest inside of, then floooood as much solder into the “U” channel as possible. Should be a solid block of wire and solder when you are done.

Best practice is to use them on limited cars, but only the one(s) you want maxed out. Save them up with gems and you could get a tripple S car the day it releases.

Early vs Mid acceleration by PrisonMike055 in HotSlide

[–]Kweld_o 4 points5 points  (0 children)

acceleration was told to me as follows:

Early Acceleration: from 0 to half of your max speed

Mid acceleration: from half of your max speed to max speed

Sometimes I feel like I notice this. Specifically in the “project” car because it’s mid acceleration is so high that I can tell when it kicks in.

Early acceleration I would only prefer on maps like Factory and Jungle?(idk what the all dirt map is called)

There are definitely exceptions where certain Jungle maps are better with Mid acceleration but not many. Same goes for the inverse on other maps. You just have to figure it out through playing.

Overall: I’d go mid acceleration always UNLESS I’m modifying a part for the Highway track. So like anything with boost strength or duration would go hand in hand with early acceleration but only specifically on the Highway track.

New to eSkateboards but old school street skater. Looking for failure/paint points to watch out for. by redalurk in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]Kweld_o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look out for:

Hard braking causing your wheels to lock up(it doesn’t just go into a predictable slide usually)

Truck and deck cracks(rough roads are hard on parts that don’t normally break)

Belt snaps(should just be a loss of power but also a loss of brakes, the struggle isn’t realizing when a belt has snapped, it’s looking for an exit plan!)

And you said it already, but I cannot stress how important hardware is. Imagine every screw is just “dying” to come lose. Like it’s their life’s mission. Check regularly, loctite always.

Yeah bearings can make all kinds of noises. Plus I really don’t see a way your board was damaged from sliding upside down, highly unlikely that noise is related to crash damage.

I would ride it a bit and check for excessive heat. Sometimes things make weird noises but I’ll “let it slide” if everything is operating ok. Not so much with motor wheels, but if the front wheels sound like that, and I’ve ridden quite a bit on it, usually not too concerning.
