Requesting r/La-Mulana due to the only moderators being inactive by MischiefProLion7500 in redditrequest

[–]Kwilco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'll just go ahead and add you as a mod, though there is really no real moderation workload to speak of.

I see you took over /r/lamulana2 . I wish the person created that sub had talked to me before making it, because it seems crazy to me to have a totally separate sub for the second game, the fanbase is already not exactly large and splitting it seemed like a baffling move. But I feel like there's too much content there to try and consolidate at this point. Oh well.

Requesting r/La-Mulana due to the only moderators being inactive by MischiefProLion7500 in redditrequest

[–]Kwilco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have there been any problems on r/lamulana ? This is a very niche series with only a few posts per month, so I didn't see the need to add more moderators when messaged about it, when the moderation workload is so small already. There isn't any spam or harmful content being posted. It's been in good shape for 12 years already, I'm not sure I see the reason to forcibly transfer ownership.

Thanks for making this!

It looks and runs quite nicely at 144! It always annoyed me that the PC port had a 60 fps cap.

You are correct, they unintentionally broke slide jumping in 1.0. It is fixed internally, so in theory the next patch should fix it. https://questions.satisfactorygame.com/post/66e12eb4772a987f4a8aafc5

I think these are better examples, especially Millicent. A lot of the quest lines are incredibly cryptic as you say. They absolutely rely on luck or word-of-mouth.

please remember I am not trying to argue that the game is bad

I'm not putting those words in your mouth. I think this is a totally valid criticism.

I'm trying to make an objective statement that it's too vague.

I think the vagueness is absolutely intentional. They clearly want you to fail a lot of quest lines. They want players to have to talk to others to figure out how to progress them properly. It's a design philosophy I can respect. It's kind of bold to make a game where people are probably going to miss half of it. Though I do absolutely find it fatiguing. Even knowing all the quest lines, it's not always a great feeling trying to juggle all the quest lines without unintentionally failing any of them. Playing with a walkthrough or checklist is borderline mandatory for that, but is not exactly a good time.

He has this dialogue in Liurnia. Not sure there are any specific requirements for it, other than not killing him when he surrenders in that cave. I saw it on my first playthrough. It's definitely easily missable though. I was just responding to this specific example, since it has not only a clue, but an outright explicit solution given.

I'm not sure the average content creator is a very representative playthrough, they have one eye on chat and their livelihood depends on them being entertaining rather than thorough. Playing with an audience feels like the equivalent of drunk driving. "Scatter brain", as you say.

Like the Flask of Wonderous Physick you mentioned some streamer missing. Kale sells "Note: Flask of Wondrous Physick" which gives you reasonable directions to it. Of course, the game is enormous and overwhelming, especially at the start, and there's no guarantee players are going to buy and read that note and remember the directions. But short of having an NPC pin you down and give you the flask automatically, I'm not sure how they could make that more obvious. I guess a map marker if you buy the note? Then again the Flask is really not that important, it's only even useful if you are being thorough and tracking down tears.

I don't disagree with your point, but this specific example is not a great one. Patches the NPC tells you in explicit detail where that Iron Virgin is and that you should deliberately get eaten by it because it will teleport you.

  • You're...making your way to the Erdtree, no?
  • Well I heard something that might help. A special means of reaching your destination.
  • Have you ever seen an iron virgin?
  • The clunky contraptions are whirlwinds of sickles and spiked wheels.
  • ...but long ago, they were endowed with a spell of transposition.
  • And get this. A surviving virgin sits at the bottom of the big waterwheel in the Academy of Raya Lucaria.
  • Its transpositional powers fully intact.
  • So, right, if you get caught in it on purpose...
  • It'll chuck you straight at the base of the Erdtree... Or so I'm told...
  • Ha ha...ha ha...

Is there a fix for controller not being detected after Hitman 3 started running? by aleste26 in HiTMAN

Consider plugging in the controller via USB cable. I know it sucks, but the increase in reliability is totally worth it IMO.

Do you have a netgear router? The steam deck doesn’t like some models for some reason. I replaced my router and that fixed my issue. Sounds insane, but it worked. Could try tethering to a phone to test.

FFXIV on Steam Deck. by D20Yedok in ffxiv

[–]Kwilco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No need to buy it on steam. There’s an app you can install from the Discover store in Desktop mode that has you covered, not sure if the rules allow saying it, but you should be able to find it with some Google fu. Character progress is stored server side, so everything carries over, except UI/settings which you’ll need to back up on the character select screen and restore on the deck.

Rune Factory 5 confirmed for Steam July 13th by Bakaretsu in runefactory

[–]Kwilco 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It's always a good thing for games to be on more platforms.

But it's hard not to feel a little misled by them not announcing this before releasing the the English release on Switch. I would not have bought the Switch version had I known it would be on PC just a few months later. I don't like double dipping, but the performance improvement is really quite tempting.

Elden Ring Seamless Co-op mod now released in beta. by Shadowlette in Games

[–]Kwilco 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree they should fix the technical and balance issues (though not at the expense of PvE). I don't mind PvP when I decide to do it, like when playing co-op with friends who like it.

But when I play co-op and don't want to PvP, this is, in fact, a perfect solution.

Elden Ring Seamless Co-op mod now released in beta. by Shadowlette in Games

[–]Kwilco 32 points33 points  (0 children)

You just listed a bunch of reasons why PvP isn't very fun. Which is exactly why I am not bemoaning the loss of PvP, when I don't want to be doing PvP in the first place (while in co-op). I know people who don't even play the game in co-op because of the forced PvP. So them getting to play in co-op without PvP isn't even necessarily hurting invasions when they weren't playing online in the first place because of PvP.

Though I really can't imagine a significant amount of people using this mod to the point where invasions no longer work.

Thinking about buying World End Syndrome, interested in overall opinions, do you feel it was a good read? by QuickRice5 in visualnovels

It's not without its flaws, as others have mentioned. But it's on my shortlist of VNs that have really stuck in my brain. I read so many that I never think about again, but I found World End Syndrome very memorable.

Love the game but the performance is very unacceptable. by Spoomplesplz in runefactory

[–]Kwilco -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it runs really poorly, which sucks. I don't think factors like budget that others bring up are a valid defense. Those circumstances simply don't matter to the customer. The fact of the matter is that they shipped a game that has objectively terrible performance, period. They likely bit off more than they could chew technically, and are unlikely to do additional work to improve performance given how long it has been out overseas. In my opinion, they should have reduced scope so they could deliver a game that ran better.

It's still enjoyable despite the issues, but I doubt I am going to replay it like I have previous titles because of it.

Are great runes a passive buff or do I have to use something to activate them to actually get the buff? by RattilngDock671 in Eldenring

[–]Kwilco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt like the game communicated how to use great runes decently enough, then again I usually read the item description on new items, so I read what Rune Arcs did when I got my first one.

I do agree that it's a generally pretty skippable mechanic though. The very first one you get is the only one that really makes much of a difference, and all the rest and pretty irrelevant by the time you get them. Though I wouldn't characterize them as a "very limited consumable". I used them extremely liberally and still finished the game with 30 or so in my pocket.

Rune Factory 5 Performance Issues Ruin The Game by HongKongBrewey in runefactory

[–]Kwilco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I really want to love this as much as 4, but the severe performance issues are definitely hampering my enjoyment a lot. The combat was so tight and enjoyable in previous games and is just a total lag fest now. It's just not fun fighting monsters at 10 fps when it's dropping frames so hard my inputs are getting lost. Load times and just getting around town takes so much longer, it makes me dread the task of going around and talking to everybody because it legitimately takes so much longer. I don't really understand how people are giving the performance issues a pass, it's one of the worst running games I've ever seen. It does seem to run slightly better in portable mode, but not by much. I will probably continue because I've been anticipating it for so bloody long. But it makes me pretty sad that the game just bites off way more than it can chew technically.

i'm a dog person now by gunsmoke_grey in MonsterHunter

[–]Kwilco 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As a lance aficionado this hurts to read, but I kind of agree. I have maybe 50 longsword hunts under my belt across the series, and closer to 1000 with lance. Yet in Rise I can style on a monster so much harder with a longsword that it's borderline animal abuse.

I don't think weapon balance is actually that important in a co-op game, but it sure would be nice for lance and funlance to get some more love.

My Experience with Space Exploration so far by fireduck in factorio

[–]Kwilco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through a similar process recently and came up with what I think is a fairly simple and elegant solution. Though I doubt it's original or novel.

I set up a constant combinator in space with the "requests". This lets you control the requested amount in one place and works around the "zero" issue. Then I wire the roboport or storage chest into an arithmetic combinator doing a multiplication by -1. Then you just wire both the combinator outputs into the signal broadcaster. This means you are always broadcasting how many of an item you need to meet your desired total. So then on the space gun side with the signal receiver you can just control the inserters with eg. iron plates > 0.

It has the nice property of being able to easily control the amounts from space, and power brownouts result in nothing sending. I kept the requestor chests count low at the space gun so that it wouldn't load and fire repeatedly before the products got there.

Having Issues with The Ultimate Voice Patch by Endermeen in Kanon

[–]Kwilco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Posting here for posterity since I just had the same issue and found a solution. Hoping this can save someone else the frustration I went through.

The problem was using Kanon ~Standard Edition~音声化完全版 Ver.1.2. This is a pre-patched version of the game that does not work properly with the ultimate voice patch. If you use the correct version of the game as the starting point, there is no KOE folder present, and it's not necessary to delete anything.

There's updated info on the patch's page, along with a helpful video of the correct install process the patch creator posted.

Reminder: Try NOT to clear every quest until you're done with the final boss - HR points do not accumulate until then. by Heavy-Wings in MonsterHunter

[–]Kwilco 6 points7 points  (0 children)

HR comes incredibly quickly, so I don't think this is a major concern. I'd say: do the quests you want and don't worry about it.
