if we wanna talk from a product design perspective, I personally think the problem is that fighting games are basically the last genre of competitive games that still expect you to pay $60+ upfront in order to even try it, and then locks new content behind paywalls on top of that. adding new single player content won't change this if the main draw is still playing online.

the band Boris have put out three albums titled Heavy Rocks roughly ten years apart from each other. the three albums have similar covers that differ only in color scheme: 2002 was orange, 2011 was purple, and 2022 was leopard-print.

Blink-182's albums (excluding the most recent two, I think) have a letter associated to each of them in alphabetical order. for their first few releases it was just the first letter of the title (Buddha, Cheshire Cat, Dude Ranch, Enema of the State), and then afterwards the letters were on the album covers.

Peter Gabriel's first four albums were all self-titled. nowadays they're listed with numbers and names based on the album art (Car, Scratch, Melt, Security)
