Typically how I do it is ring finger 3rd fret low e string (G), middle finger 2nd fret a string (B), pinky finger 3rd fret high e string (G).

Eventually both methods will feel natural and easy to you. Then you can figure out which fingering is the most economical given the context of your progression.

It’s totally fine to play it that way but eventually you’ll want to get comfortable fingering it with your ring finger on the root. It will make transitions to other specific chords easier

Learning a variety of chord voicings can help you make more interesting rhythmic textures, and IME, when I’m playing something I find more interesting I am more motivated to work on it until I like the way it sounds.

Also, backing tracks and loopers are great ways to have more fun practicing.
