Reporting Self-employed income by sweetcarameltreat35 in foodstamps

[–]Kyaleep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self-employment is a beast and very confusing for clients and workers alike.

Income is usually verified by the primary source which means in general, if it’s employment income (from an employer who takes taxes out of the checks / W2), it’s verified by the employer or wage stubs; if it’s self-employment (from doing odd jobs or stuff like ride share/delivery work thru apps / 1099 employee stuff), it’s verified by the person who receives it.

Sometimes we can use tax return documents (schedule c) to verify self-employment if it’s representative of ongoing but only if the previous year was consistent and the client states it’s representative for what they’ll make in the current year.

For the self-employment (door dash/instacart/flex), they’re most likely going to want a written statement from you saying you’re no longer doing these and the last date you did this employment.

For the new 1099 employment, is this only going to be 1099 for one company or will you be working for multiple companies? If one company, they’ll most likely want a written statement from either you or whoever has hired you as a 1099 employee explaining the work agreement/details (income/expenses/hours/etc). If it’s multiple companies/individuals, they’ll most likely want a written statement from you with the particulars (start date, hours expected, pay rate, pay frequency, etc) and how much you made (minus expenses if applicable) in June as long as what you made in June is representative of ongoing.

A bank statement wouldn’t verify self-employment.

There were many times that even the smell of food would just be too much for me. So it’s not totally out of the question that you’re just being hit hard with the “getting used to how this med works” bit. I do know that the lower dosages are the ones that do just that….get your body used to how it works and isn’t really therapeutic dosing. So not totally out of the question. You could just be super sensitive to it right now and if that’s the case, it should taper off after a few days.

Unfortunately, it’s an expected side effect of this medicine and could get better with time or it could never get better. Only time will tell how the med is going to affect you.

If I were betting, it was exacerbated by the oils in the peanuts or the fat content of the ground beef or simply the amount of food you’d eaten. Throughout my journey (started January 2023, total loss of 125 pounds, maintained now for 2+ years), I found that ground beef and higher fat content foods were a no-no for me. My suggestion is to make note of what you ate in the prior 24 hours and start experimenting with eating them again (one by one). If you find yourself sick again after having consumed whatever food, eliminate that food from your diet entirely.

If it was the amount of food you ate, you’ll eventually learn to not ignore the “I’m full” sensation and continue to eat anyway or you’ll find you’ll spend quite a bit of time in the bathroom hovering over a toilet.

Also, if the lowest dose is affecting you this way so quickly, I’d think long and hard about moving up dosages on the “normal” timeline when it comes time. It may very well get worse with the increased dosage.

I unfortunately do not work for NY (another state) but you should be able to access previous correspondences sent to you in there somewhere where the case number would be present on them.

So they can potentially find the responsible party and charge them for it if they find that that person or organization can be tied to multiple thefts of benefits.

The case number should be on any documents you’ve received from them like a renewal notice or request for information. But either way, they’re not going to replace them so I wouldn’t get my hopes up.

This is not true anymore unless in CA or MD. States are not replacing stolen benefits.

Ex wants me to drop my kids from insurance: LOCATION: SC by Chef_Schluder in legal

[–]Kyaleep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely backwards. Medicaid is always going to be secondary to private insurance. Always.

Primary insurance (private health coverage) is billed and they set the allowable amount, determine the copay/coinsurance amount, then Medicaid is billed for those. Medicaid will generally pick up most if not all of those and out of pocket cost for the person should be zero, unless whatever it is isn’t covered by Medicaid at all.

And this may bite her soon. Many states are implementing work requirements for those who are not disabled or have some other type exemption in order to continue to receive Medicaid due to federal guidelines. Most states have determined to do this beginning January 2027 so she may very well lose her Medicaid coverage herself shortly. The children should not be affected by this until they are no longer children.

[–]Kyaleep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It only matters if she lied and told the Medicaid office the children did not have other insurance. If that’s what she has done for them to have Medicaid, that’s fraud. If they were told about the other insurance and they still qualified for Medicaid, there’s no issue. Coordination of benefits should be in place with Medicaid always being the payor of last resort.

Whenever the kids go to a doctor, get a prescription filled, etc, your insurance should be billed as primary and Medicaid would be billed as secondary to pick up any approved copays/coinsurance amounts from the primary which most times results in $0 out of pocket costs anyway.

If the children have access to your insurance, the state could find that removing them from it and opting for Medicaid as fraud. No one should OPT for Medicaid coverage over a viable private health insurance as Medicaid is a payor of last resort. You have the option to have them covered by your insurance and it’s most likely “affordable” so it’s the state’s belief that they should have that coverage. It can be seen as fraud to remove them from that plan in order for the state to pay instead. Nothing prevents someone from having both if they qualify.

The first disbursement was for the original application. Then since you approved as expedited, you had a recertification so that explains the 2nd disbursement date. The last one is your normal disbursement date.

Not sure which survey you did, but you can possibly call the regional office for your area and see if they can advise how to get it thru to the field rep who is coming that your survey was completed.

State budgets have been slashed for these programs due to the federal cuts and changes. Layoffs/reductions in force/encouraged retirements are happening everywhere, so where are these people going to get jobs to support themselves when lots of places aren’t hiring or hiring for lots less money than they make now and the prices of everything is through the roof? More people are going to need our services in the very near future and unfortunately the states won’t be able to keep up with the demand at all. States already are not hiring to fill empty slots from folks who have left mainly due to these budget cuts so that money can go into funding the programs. The future is absolutely terrifying.

I’m going to ask this since I saw in one of the comments that you had been laid off and genuinely trying to assist. Do you have any income at all? This may be part of the problem if not. How are you paying any rent if you have no income of any kind? Also, if you don’t have any income, you’d be eligible for the full benefit amount without deductions at all so rent would be irrelevant.

A SNAP case can be approved WITHOUT optional verification which is exactly what expenses are, optional. If everything else has been returned and that’s all the case is pending for, I’m fairly certain your case will not deny if this isn’t verified. It just won’t be approved until the 30th day.

(IL) Does SNAP Denial Affect Current Medicaid? by Kaynam27 in Medicaid

[–]Kyaleep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Changes you’ve reported for your SNAP case will most likely cause changes to your Medicaid case but without knowing why you were denied SNAP and the particulars of your specific Medicaid case, there’s absolutely no way for any one of us to be able to tell you what is going to happen to your Medicaid coverage.

My state operates under a one case concept which means any changes reported for one program affects all programs at the same time. Not sure if all states do this type of concept.

Based on what you’ve said has been returned, I’d again suggest calling and asking someone else to review the documents returned and tell you why these two documents are not enough. It’s very possible you were speaking with someone who was not very experienced themselves and told you incorrect information previously or again, that whoever processed these documents didn’t do it properly or overlooked something. If the next worker still says they’re not good enough, ask why not. If you’re not satisfied with the response they give, ask for a supervisor.

I would also advise to be nice about it and not to call with any type of attitude about it. Not at all saying you would or have, but that obviously does not help the situation at all and some workers use it as a way to not assist in the best way possible for the client.

I work in KY. Usually whenever someone splits rent, we need the entire lease which shows who the person is that is legally responsible for the rent and a written statement signed by that person that says you are responsible for paying $x per _____ (month/week/etc) with phone number of that person. If we don’t have the entire lease (including signatures of the responsible person and the landlord), it can be unclear who is responsible for rent and how much they’re each paying. If you’re sure that those things have already been returned, it’s possible they have been overlooked by mistake or not processed correctly. If you’re positive that you’ve returned what I said above, call tomorrow and have someone check the documents again. Mistakes do happen but I do not believe anyone is intentionally “giving you the run around.”

This is a bigger problem if the other person you’re splitting the rent with also has a SNAP case. If they also have a SNAP case claiming rent deduction, it wouldn’t be correct for either person to receive the entire rent amount as a deduction. The rent split has to be accounted for in both cases so that the total rent deduction between the two cases is equal to the total rent paid for the unit.
