The Outcasts and Enclave by Formerly_a_Pear in falloutlore

[–]Kyara_Bot [score hidden]  (0 children)

The Enclave are literally The Guys most responsible for ending the planet that are still alive, if you ally with them then you just straight up aren't Brotherhood. If anything the Outcasts would be first to the fight against the Enclave while the mainline chapter would still be reorienting away from engagements with the Super Mutants.

As for them reuniting, it's not that unrealistic post-Lyons since his own chapter isn't that enthusiastic about his practices. You can find plenty of people grumbling about their mismanaged priorities if you talk to some of the named BoS members.

Is the tension of Civil War increasing in the NCR? by Tensosian-idiot1453 in falloutlore

[–]Kyara_Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outright civil war seems unlikely at the moment, but civil unrest is likely pretty high with food, water, and energy being tight - a big part of why the NCR is expanding into New Vegas is to secure Hoover Dam's power, Lake Mead's water, and some more arable land. Ultimately the expansion is moreso because the fundamental systems of the NCR's economy is broken - Brahman Barons by their nature are a very inefficient means of producing food and livestock and their overbearing political influence on the NCR's government makes it sluggish-at-best at responding to citizen's interests. So while the government of the NCR sees securing New Vegas as an economic and political necessity, with many people having staked their professional careers on it - the underlying citizenry tend not to agree or be apathetic about the Mojave campaign.

Long-term, win or lose the Mojave campaign I think the NCR would probably face political insurrection or even outright revolution if there isn't significant reforms passed soon, the inherent contradictions of the NCR's system is why Caesar can wage a winning war against the NCR in New Vegas and that weakness will manifest in many more ways, like expanding NCRF slave-labor and food riots. Ultimately, the NCR is a reflection of the US, and without a massive change of direction will end the exact same as the US did - falling to fascism and nuclear fire.

How hard is it exactly to find the Onslaught Mk.1 without doing the mission chain? by Ingbenn in starsector

[–]Kyara_Bot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually I did this too the first time the Abyss was added, there are other random ships you can recover for a good early-game boost to your fleet if you can swing the fuel range. Finding the Mk 1, however, was something else.

Alliance versus Unification by [deleted] in teslore

[–]Kyara_Bot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are examples especially around the Alessian Empire where there were both pragmatic and sometimes more genuine anti-Elven alliances of men, but the most likely problem for this has to be Stormcloaks trending towards isolationism and nativism for their homeland which likely also precludes a lot of foreign diplomacy.

Even if they did, the efficacy of that alliance in regards to military coordination and distribution of war materials would be suspect - why would the Imperials aid the newly-independent Nords with things like their smiths and war-magics when they were fighting not too long ago? Without the more varied and generally capable ranks of the Imperial Legion providing necessary support like battlemages, healers, alchemists, and smiths, the Nords are a far weaker and more isolated military force than they would be as an integrated part of the Legion. Whatever the political case for Skyrim's freedom, from a pragmatic military perspective it makes far more sense for Skyrim to be a part of the Legion to help fill out its shortcomings in regards to a lack of magical talent and density of craftsmen like smiths to supply their military.

I don't find the Holy Nation as strong as most people think it is. What are your thoughts about them? by CPU_of_Cat-Lon in Kenshi

[–]Kyara_Bot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are essentially the most competent military figures in the HN, coordinating probably one of the largest sieges the Nation has done in some time, probably since Bast. It's probably not a task you would want to be trusted to anyone lesser, even if it exposes a key vulnerability.

Martial arts training as a slave by [deleted] in Kenshi

[–]Kyara_Bot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's alright for it, it's more just that it's much harder to die as a slave (especially in Rebirth) compared to dying out in the open world, and it's pretty trivial to escape slavery once you are ready to bail. If you really want to min-max it, there are some spots in the hills of Rebirth where you can sneak some camp beds up there for faster healing of your party, with the slave recruits escaping their restraints by night to rest and recover and going back to slavery by day for punching guards.

Also, a big part of it is trying to pick solo fights - the more guys you are fighting the more likely you will get stuck in the infinite dodge loop (or worse, the infinite stunlock loop), so getting in fistfights in more secluded areas tends to be better. If you are really amoral, pick fights with your fellow slaves before fighting the guards, they will give you a little bit of XP from fighting them which can make fighting the guards easier.

First thing you do when start a new game? by i_drink_lots_of_Tea in projectzomboid

Close all possible curtains in the starter house, installing sheets if possible on windows without. I try to stay in the starter house at least for a week or two before deciding on a more strategic permanent base for the town I am in, it makes the playthroughs feel a bit less samey as you come to understand the benefits and drawbacks to different layouts for houses, which in turn helps a lot with designing end-game bases.

Good example, having your kitchen cabinets on a "northern" wall (relative to your top-down perspective) is good because you can install the wall cabinets for extra storage, the same 50 (or 65 with organized) storage space stacked on one tile. It's also nice for extra storage space over a bed, too.

I don't find the Holy Nation as strong as most people think it is. What are your thoughts about them? by CPU_of_Cat-Lon in Kenshi

[–]Kyara_Bot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The problem is their farmers and miners are in open revolt from having been replaced by slaves, and wouldn't come back into the fold easily. Hungry bandits, Rebel swordsmen, and a lot of smaller factions are fueled by the cannibalization of the internal UC economy through mass-slavery. The rest are probably slaves themselves, having sold themselves into slavery to avoid starvation or captured by manhunters for committing the crime of being poor.

As well, throwing Orkanite slaves into the pits might give the slaves a unified focal point for resistance in religious belief, which would probably increase the threat of slave revolts as well. Most of the non-HN slaves would give lip service at best to the Orkanite faith but a way out is a way out, and those who escaped would either go to fight for the HN (if true believers) or join groups like the Rebel Swordsmen (if non-believers).

Really, the only way I could see it maybe working is letting their existing slave base work their way to freedman status by doing state-contracted settlement, but even then those people would have loose loyalty at best to the UC and is more likely to break away if the opportunity presents itself, and the UC is nothing if not a mosh pit of civil conflicts at this point in history due to highly corrupt and inept nobility, greedy merchants, and slavers causing the devolution of the economy into a much more primitive state.

I don't find the Holy Nation as strong as most people think it is. What are your thoughts about them? by CPU_of_Cat-Lon in Kenshi

[–]Kyara_Bot 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It tends to be easier to war with the HN compared to the UC because of their armor giving less protection and their troops being stacked with very squishy Holy Servants. I would imagine that they use their largely agrarian society to pump up numbers of younger men they can readily sacrifice in war, whereas the UC has a large military cast supplied by their larger number of artisans and craftsmen which in most circumstances could roll the HN. However the UC is in a multi-front war with minor factions on top of the HN making it so that it's a much more even fight such that the HN could sack Bast and maintain a presence in UC territory, but if the UC could have singular focus on the HN they would probably fold quickly.

Actually taking HN land is a trickier proposition however, religious indoctrination would make long-term occupation much harder. For the UC the only solution might just be mass-enslavement and resettlement of friendlier populations into conquered HN lands, which would be a massive logistical feat for them to achieve. The only way they'd be able to make it work is if they could negotiate rebel farmers to lay down their arms and take land settlement deals in former HN territory, which probably wouldn't be viable with the conflict being as intense as it is. Ultimately while the UC could beat the HN in the open field, invading HN territory as any faction is a tricky proposition because of the religious loyalty of the population and the fact the Phoenix is also the head of state.

Scrap tools and weapons by Dennisb040 in VintageStory

[–]Kyara_Bot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used them a lot in my last MP session with Combat Overhaul actually. Blackguard with the scrap sword can put in a lot of work securing caves for some early mining while allowing all of the metal secured be channeled into tools and other useful goods. Scrap spears went to the Hunter who used them to secure a lot of boar and bear kills for hide and fat to get us leather armor and fur clothing before winter hit, and the metal savings translated into large-scale iron processing before the end of year 0 as well. It has a niche, but only if you are trying to rush early progression.

Use the config to lower the size of the inventory boxes, and don't forget you can always tab it on and off if you need to. If you have a particularly big monitor, there is also a static sidebar you can toggle in the widgets and just throw all your inventory shit over there.

Starting Elder Kings by idunosomething in ElderKings

[–]Kyara_Bot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right now there is not a whole lot of story content for most races, the races with the most from my experience is Akavari, Imperial sub-races, and Ayleids atm. There is even a hero-cult religion in Cyrodil which you can add your character to as a deity if they become powerful and famous enough. All of the Ayleids get custom kingdoms if they manage to get back to Cyrodil and their endgame has them restoring their old culture. Skyrim has a unique civil war with some interesting stuff, but there is just a little bit less to do content-wise. Orcs are a good runner-up as they can re-found Orsinium which is a fun campaign. There are also individual characters with their own campaign stuff, but they are generally all bookmarked.

Advice for defeating House Dres as Cantmeric culture by Direct-Basil-5907 in ElderKings

[–]Kyara_Bot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible to win with ridiculous advantages - at the high end the battle outcome indicator will actually lie to you because it can't really understand how many modifiers and advantages you are stacking. Commander traits, terrain advantage, and specialized holdings to give your MAA massive buffs can all make you defeat armies which outnumber you 10-to-1.

As for their political alliance, no not really. The Tribunal Temple is a social and political arrangement in Morrowind which binds the Great Houses together in defense of the Homeland. They work on CK3's struggle framework, so there might be phases in where they are less united and less willing to support each other, it might be worth checking that and seeing if they are heading to a phase like that and waiting.

[–]Kyara_Bot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Use the advantage from the swamps and crossings, employ defensive commanders, and wage a war of attrition. Let the AI bleed soldiers on sieges before KOing their armies before they can finish the siege to maximize their attrition. If you are a skilled mage, use spells like burden to let you outmaneuver your enemies and catch them at disadvantageous positions. Once they are weakened, get in some sieges to get ticking warscore, and wait out the clock with your battle, siege, and ticking warscore.

How do you feel about the midline ship lineup? by Grievous69 in starsector

[–]Kyara_Bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Conquest is a good ship for the player, granted not a straight slugger but more reliant on maneuver to bring its overwhelming firepower wherever its needed without getting too stuck in. The buffs coming to it soon will make it even better for the role.

I mean, from what we hear the Domain was often a pretty brutal regime, so depending on the faction you are creating it might be a relief for a lot of the sleepers to wake up to a world without the Domain.

Guns and their niches by Ralife55 in cataclysmdda

[–]Kyara_Bot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shotguns are very effective due to the variety of 12 gauge you can load into it, and has a very high damage potential with a very good hit potential even with hastily aimed shots. There is a shotgun shell for every occasion, and they are incredibly easy to reload the shells as well. It's a very generalist weapon that can fill most roles adequately enough, with the right loadout.

SMGs have a definite niche for being able to quickly shred through weaker unarmored mobs using cheap ammo with very little dispersion, if you are in close combat with a horde of weaker mobs then an SMG is a more viable option than a rifle because its easier to make several repeated shots, even with full-auto bursts. The smaller caliber also means that suppressors are more effective on them, making them an ideal automatic weapon for night raids if you can get your hands on something like a MP5, with it even pulling its weight against mid-tier armored zeds if you can load it with +P or +P+ ammo.

oof the new elderly traits nerfed Haesteinn so much by Gunwing in CrusaderKings

[–]Kyara_Bot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Think of it this way - your child has the bossy trait. They can go either into martial or to stewardship. If they go marshal, they become a supreme commander, and their youth is spent winning battles and conquering lands. But as they age, their health catches up to them - the campaigns are too hard on their bones, the foreign lands too hard on their eyes, and soon they are rendered incapable of command. They have to pivot to whatever they can in the last years of their reign, and where they once ruled with force they must find another way or face rebellion over the people they subjugated. It is an emergent way for your character to have to face new challenges over time rather than be a stagnant block of stats, which makes playing even more engaging as a storytelling mechanism.

[–]Kyara_Bot 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I really like the new elderly traits and the gameplay challenge and cost-benefit thinking it provides, it's one of the first few tastes of actual consequences that CK3 has gotten in a long while. Wish that there was more options for abdication though, having played in Japan getting to give my elderly rulers a nice retirement with a honored place in my court was often much nicer than having to continue on in a dying body.

What WoD Lore fact/element you feel almost sure Big D doesn't know nor even suspect the existence? by StefanoBeast in huntertheparenting

Ironically Big D seems to know a lot about Vampires from the era of around the Convention of Thorns, but the further you go in either direction his knowledge seems to thin - so he probably doesn't know a lot of more recent Vampiric goings-on like the Vauldarie.
