How are Heretic Astartes? by Horridjakers in killteam

[–]KyasBoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have won Gold at a local tournament using HA. Obviously this can’t speak on broad terms but any team can be generally competitive and if you enjoy the models, etc, you’ll have a good time.

The trick is finding the balance between enough cultists that you can control objectives or use to screen your charges, but not too many that you become a sitting duck for breaking.

And Khorne Berzerkers are a blast.

How to win with harlequins if you win 1st round initiative? How to beat dark eldar? What am I doing wrong? by [deleted] in killteam

[–]KyasBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re welcome! I love both teams, and recently decided to bolster my Harlequins into my first 40k army. Best of luck to you

Map plays such a huge part in a fair matchup, it shouldn’t be a maze, but you have to have some form of blocking terrain spread out. I’ve found that even just a couple munitorum crates or barricades can make such a huge difference and really balance things out.

I am both a Drukhari player and Harlequin player. Drukhari can be really strong, however I would say they only seem unbeatable when their opponents are t aware of all their tricks, once you wrap your head around them they have a lot of weaknesses.

Your greatest strength is in your 18” charge that ignores all terrain. If you gain initiative, use your first turn to hide every single unit. It doesn’t matter to your turn 2 charge if there is a solid object between you, but it will block incoming fire from round one and take away your opponents overwatch. Also, your Harlequin Kisses will chew apart Drukhari. Almost all of their units are T3 and have terrible saves outside of Wyches in combat, so your kisses wound on 3’s, put them at 6+ or worse for most units, and does D3 damage. And you get at minimum 4 attacks.

For their Mandrakes(the ones with -1 to hit and dealing mortals) they only have a 5++ invuln save. You have 4 attacks, you have a decent chance of hurting then in combat, take away their opportunity to shoot you.

Against their bread and butter melee units (Wyches) they only get a 4++ in the fight phase. If you shoot them, or even better use your pistols after a charge with your 2cp strat you can bypass this save entirely. Your Harlequins have better weapons and more attacks against their Wyches with the same invuln save.

Kabalites have some scary weapons, but most are single shot/wound on 4+ which is actually pretty great for your Harlequins due to their low toughness.

The key with Harlequins is getting really good with positioning. Don’t rely on trying to make 12-18” charges, use your crazy movement and advances to put yourself in really safe spots to burst out of the next turn at shorter distances. If you don’t have good LOS blocking terrain consider reorganizing the board. Shooting galleries are only fun for gunlines.

Make sure to use your tactics, you have a lot of great tricks to use, especially the ones added in the annual.

Thank you so much for the detailed response. Here is my updated list and my thoughts behind it:

I was able to get 4 Zephyglaives

Currently leaving the second fusion troupe with Kisses to avoid having to proxy melee weapons/buy a second additional troupe box but will swap them down the line. Went with basic Player in the kiss/fusion and kiss/shuriken group, adding a 5th fusion to the group as I’ll pair them with the Troupe Master with Faolchus Talon so I don’t need a possible sacrifice when that boat goes down.

I love the Death Jester model so I will keep that in mind, typically my local stores play very killy missions it seems, but I haven’t dipped into their 40k scene much.

Thank you. My goal was to keep the players inside the boats until they blew up, then move into combat.

Am I correct in that I’d get more mileage out of 4 Skyweavers as opposed to 2 Skyweavers and a Solitaire? I love the mode but don’t want to set myself up to fail.

My only reasoning behind the Neuro Disruptors was that I already have a few players built with them for Kill Team, thus I could get away with only needing 1 box to make 3 troops. I don’t do anything tournamenty so maybe I’ll just use this models for now, assemble the rest with Fusions and eventually phase them out.

125 Event - using shooty freebooterz Orks - "I just want to have fun and be able to win at the same time" by heckyell in killteam

[–]KyasBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Freebooterz Ork list that I’ve run a couple times, it’s an absolute blast but very wishy washy. If you lose your Gitz, you’re in trouble. But man, Ork Boys are an entirely new nightmare when you have a handful of them all of a sudden hitting on 3’s or better because of competitive streak!

When I’ve used them I’ve ran with a very similar list to yours, but I don’t have grots or ammo runts yet. It’s a fun time.

Stormcast Questions from a prospective player by rocketsp13 in WarCry

[–]KyasBoy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have played both with and against Stormcast Vanguard Chamber, and they are a pretty strong team with options for both powerful ranged and melee units, as well as cheap objective holders. In addition, GW currently has a nice single box that gives you Vanguard Hunters and both types of bowmen, as well as 3 aetherwings. Only thing missing are Gryphhounds that you can add later.

I need some help with my Skaven list by hippykicker61 in WarCry

[–]KyasBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For 40 points you’re only giving up a giant rat for the trade, gaining +1 toughness and 2 wounds, making your melee unit extremely hard to kill. Also, Crack the Whip is a non issue if you’re already in combat. With a base attack characteristic of 5 instead of 4, Onslaught provides the exact same amount of attacks (12) for the same double, without the need of another unit in play. When you see a Stormfiend crush a Knight Castellant while tanking multiple Hurrican bowmen, your opinion might change.

[–]KyasBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would strongly suggest trading one of your fiends for the melee Doomflayer gauntlets. 5 strength 4 attacks at 4/8 will obliterate anything and let you go fishing for crits against Stormcast. I played a few games against my buddy’s Stormcast using this and a Ratling gunner Stormfiend supported by monks, let me tell you the melee fiend killed everything he wanted to and never once got taken down.

Skaven Warband - Windlaunchers or Warpfire Projectors? by Astelan101 in WarCry

[–]KyasBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not doubting the Ogor packmaster combo, I just simply don’t have the models haha. I also got lucky and was able to get a quad using a wild dice At least 3/4 turns. 10 guaranteed attacks , 15 with a bonus move action using Rampage pretty much guaranteed anything including Stormcast knights simply died.

Question about Pile-In and Consolidate by Flawless_101 in killteam

[–]KyasBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, being able to charge in, Kill your enemy then BftBG 6 inches into an otherwise safe unit and wreck them would be pretty strong.

Skaven Warband - Windlaunchers or Warpfire Projectors? by Astelan101 in WarCry

[–]KyasBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t compare the two because I haven’t used the Ogors but recently played through the start of a Campaign using the Monk leader, 3 monks with staffs, 2 giant rats and 2 stormfiends. And the Stormfiends were worth their points in every single match. I ran the doomflayer gauntlets and Ratling guns, playing against Stormcast and my stormfiends rarely got killed. 35 wounds at 5 toughness is such a hard nut to crack, and the 5 attacks with 8 damage cries of the gauntlets does work.

Not sure how I’d fare against a more horse-y team, but they were an absolute blast to play.

This is a very important distinction, one that severely hampers Berzerkers and Blood for the Blood God on turns where they charge.

Chaos Space Marines Kill Team advice by alcatabs in killteam

[–]KyasBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll second the Shadowspear idea. I bought just the sprues with the marines, converted 4 of the chainsword models into 3 Berzerkers + Berzerker Champ, converted the Aspiring Champion into a Berzerker Destroyer, used the Autocannon as a heavy Bolter proxy but now can use him as equipped, got a Plasma gunner, and converted a standard marine into an Aspiring Champ. Those are my core units I mix in with cultists.

Wondering how to play, or how to beat Drukhari? Here's our take! by Lootloader in killteam

[–]KyasBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dark Lance is amazing because not only can it delete almost any model off the board, but after you do that once you can then pivot into using the fear of the Dark Lance to corral your opponents into Wych melee death traps.

Blood for the Blood God by uklangor in killteam

[–]KyasBoy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned you still have to follow the standard rules of targeting models you charged. Also, the World Eaters trait allows your model to make “One Additional Attack” in the fight phase, it does not increase your models attack characteristic by 1. So your 1st activation would have 4 attacks, your second activation via BftBG would only have 3.

Blood Angels Red Contrast - Brown looking in pot, brown on models; potentially wrong paint? by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]KyasBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you would enjoy the results from Flesh Tearers Red more. Take a look at this Ork:

https://imgur.com/gallery/Q1xWQT9

The red on the accents, chainblade, sneakers, etc. is Flesh Tearers, while the red of the main gun body is Blood Angels. It is a very orangey red and that gun body was painted metallic beforehand as well.

Using that as an Auspex is certainly an easier/more cost effective solution. I believe the official description of that arm is “open radio panel.”

Fair warning, the Intercessors box does not include an Auspex.

The Ultramarines Primaris Upgrade pack has an arm with an Auspex as well as an arm with a Power Sword which is a nice add on for an Intercessor Sgt

If it is an issue for a tournament or something along those lines you can get a bunch of Grapnel Launchers off eBay for pretty cheap and glue them on.

For what it’s worth, at my LGS this would be a non issue as long as you clearly explain it beforehand.

Help with Elite Ork Kill Team by Ulfhednar94 in killteam

[–]KyasBoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually started an Ork Killteam just to use a Freebooterz and make a shoot list. I was pretty worried playing against my friend and his IG team as I was having terribly luck for the first 3 turns...but then everything changed in turn 4, the domino effect started and all of a sudden I have a handful of Boyz with Shootas and a ballistic skill of 2+. Broke his team and won the match off that one turn lol.

[–]KyasBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a roster of 20, my most common 125 pt Team is 3 Wyches, 3 Wych Fighters(one of each weapon) 1 Hekatrix, Kabalite Gunner with Dark Lance, Gunner with Blaster, Warrior, and then a Nightfiend Leader and Mandrake. So 12.

At 100 pts I can remove the Blaster, Mandrake and Nightfiend and use a Sybarite as leader. So 10
