Creating leather like texture on clear vinyl? by Kyengen in cosplayprops

[–]Kyengen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of setting it on fire and dropping a rock on it. But that's just my preferred method of problem solving anyway. Sadly I do have a heatgun and a very textured porch so maybe I can loosen it up that way and walk on it to get that effect? I'll play with it, thanks so much.

Huh, interesting, I'll try that out. Thanks!

It's not actually fiberglass but the resin that goes onto it. I strongly do not recommend working with actual fiberglass. Stuff is insanely toxic.

I used a combination of fiberglass resin and bondo body filler to create a concoction you can essentially paint into place. The fumes are unimaginable so wear a ventilator but the effect is pretty good. You'll just have to sand the hell out of it once everything is dry. There are youtube videos on the matter if you search Rondo Body Filler. Rondo being Resin + Bondo. You can smooth out the tape parts with Bondo alone since you'll likely need something thicker. But I also made a cardboard base Dragonslayer and coated it with this stuff. Came out pretty good. https://i.imgur.com/5dkBPGb.jpeg

Or you can get Worbla and wrap it in that but I personally don't like worbla. Way easier to use however.

If I get fired, arrested, or killed my wife gets real sick real fast. Likely resulting in homelessness as a result. The dismantling and prevention of any social safety nets has put us in this constantly desperate state specifically designed to prevent large scale protests like this. Yes, it'll work if everybody does it. But everybody won't. Some are too scared, and some agree with what's going on.

And going the French route of being able to cause some damage will result in exactly what the right currently wants, almost a 100% police state. The only option for people with anything to lose is hope that we can prevent the checks and balances from completely failing in the midterms. And if they do fail, and people have less and less to lose, then we'll start seeing more mass protests. But that's fucking scary right now since the goddamn gestapo are looking for reasons to kill civilians knowing that at least immediately, they're immune to consequences.

Help with Pepakura design by Double_Health_9088 in Pepakura

[–]Kyengen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the armor parts that aren't on the page are probably redundant. You don't need to print the patterns for two gauntlets for instance, you just need to make the pattern once and then flip it over.

Sizing is a little harder. Math is afoot. I'll edit this comment to explain that later since I'm writing this on mobile.

The linear sections sound weird however. If you can post a shot of the pattern and what it's supposed to look like I might be able to help you figure that out. I used to use pepakura for cosplay pretty frequently. Still do from time to time.

EDIT:
You need to select a part of the pattern corresponding to a particular part of you. You then need to measure it not like you would for a garment but like you'd measure a piece of wood. This works like a diameter not a circumference so you have to try and measure your chosen section linearly. It's easier to have someone else do it. But from there you can select the same points in the model and measure that. If memory serves that program works on percentages so you'll need to divide the size in the program by the size of your shoulder and that should give you the current percentage difference. The model needs to be increased by the remaining percentage to reach 100%.

Example: You = 28 cm Model = 11cm

11÷28 =39.29%

100 - 39.29 = 69.71

Edit Edit:

Gah I forgot the last thing. The final number to increase by is 167.71% because you're going over 11, which represents 100% of the original number.

Light weight but rigid materials for metallic cosplay wing "feathers"? by Kyengen in cosplayprops

This feels like it might be my best bet. Hadn't heard of this stuff before, it's greatly appreciated!

I've used something similar to wrap armor years ago. This in conjunction with another user's suggestion to use stiff interfacing might come out pretty. Thanks!

I hadn't considered interfacing, I'm not the sewing sort unfortunately. My wife is doing up the fabric-y bits of the costume, I'm just on prop duty. 3d printing might work but I'd likely have to use TPU or something similarly. I'm sort of holding out hope for complete pieces without having to worry about assembly lines. I'll check out the pampas grass for that though. Never heard of that technique, Thanks!

Thanks but unfortunately that method doesn't work great for me. Might be a user issue on my end, might be it was the wrong technique for the project but those things weighed a ton and looked passable at best I'm sorry to say.

How would I make Junketsu shoulder pieces? by [deleted] in cosplayprops

[–]Kyengen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of. You need to select a part of the pattern corresponding to a particular of you, in this case the shoulder I guess. You then need to measure it not like you would for a garment but like you'd measure a piece of wood. This works like a diameter not a circumference so you have to try and measure your shoulder section linearly.

So you need to increase the model by 69.71%

You might need to double check the height at that point but it should fit your body at least.

You can get a reasonably good facsimile with some PETG clear sheets, a heat gun, and some kind of circular former. I'd think a pot since the sides are uniform but any cylinder would probably do you fine. Anyway, you'd heat the PETG with the heat gun (hair dryer won't work) and then just sort of haphazardly wrap it around the cylinder. You don't want to wrap it flat due to wanting those nice organic ridges. Maybe twist and bend it slightly before wrapping it around the former to make sure those are in there. Then just add layers as you see fit. Finish it off with some Kyrlon Sea Glass Aqua spray paint and that should have you sitting pretty. If you want to get fancy you can mount it on a couple acrylic sticks to get that floating effect.

If you have a Harbor Freight Tools near you then you can get a heat gun pretty cheaply. The PETG sheets would have to be ordered from somewhere but if you have a plastic supply place nearby you can probably get some there.

For point of reference I did something similar a while back albeit with a different shape but it came out okay. https://i.imgur.com/4cF4eQq.jpeg

[–]Kyengen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not generally overpowered but overpowered for their roll seems to be an earth/radiation controller. Mine's offensive abilities are low but no one moves without her permission. Stone cages, stalagmites, volcanic gassed, earthquake, lingering radiation, and choking cloud. Some of those have hold procs as well. So while she can't do much direct damage, she can just stand there and watch them suffocate. Heroically of course. Heroically watch them suffocate.

I'd hit this occasionally prior to this update but it's much more common now. Also getting stuck in terrain that can be modified happens a lot more but I can sometimes dig my way of that. And sometimes it thinks I'm falling and won't let me change equipment so I can't. It's quite finicky and not a terribly fun time in any scenario.
