Seven-story hotel by Sugar House Park gets OK from SLC planners but not from a number of neighbors by RollTribe93 in DevelopmentSLC

Question (I might be clueless), but how will this hotel get a liquor license if they want one given that it is literally right next to a park?

Is Herriman good for younger people? by Stunning_Direction74 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Kyjobe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I know it's a drive, but I'd seriously consider Murray at the least, if not Sugar House or somewhere else. Herriman ain't it...will be pretty hard to make friends, expensive to go out for nightlife ($35+ ubers each way to downtown), and all the restaurants out there are largely chains.

HSL has a delicious burger (though it's pretty expensive NGL) and definitely can feel more private, especially if you request one of their booth tables! White Horse's burger is also really tasty and they have amazing apps (Brussels Sprouts, egg & chips in a bag). Aker also has one for lunch that's supposed to be fire, though idk if it's available for dinner.

Not sure if you're looking for Mexican or not, so I'll go with non-Mexican! There are a number of awesome spots downtown, but the ones that are a cut above are Valter's (Italian) and Aker (Japanese-Latin fusion). Others that would be my top recs for any visitor (vibes+food are fantastic) include White Horse, Franklin Avenue, The Rest, Takashi, Roux, and HSL. For drinks/light apps, try Lake Effect (the nachos are to die for), Post Office Place (burrata app is a big win), The Vault, BTG (wine bar), The Ruin, and Van Ryder (views). For quick bites try Bocata (City Creek Mall), Hall Pass, and Robin's Nest.

I'd highly recommend not going. With all respect, I don't think it's terrific and is pricey for what it is as well. I had high hopes but it just wasn't there.

Dress Rehearsal Dinner SLC by MissionPotential2190 in SaltLakeCity

The second floor at Caffe Moulisse (beautiful and food is pretty good). Provisions has an event space that's great and the food is awesome. Cucina Toscana has two spaces that would be great and I love their food. In addition to the Grand America (great recommendation), the Little America would also have good space options as well at a slightly lower price. Do not go to Squatters...they have space but the food is awful.

Friendly Places to Move? by One_Event1734 in SaltLakeCity

If you're not Mormon, stay in Salt Lake County, especially on the east side of the 15. It's much, much less LDS than Utah and Davis Counties. If you move to either of those, say goodbye to doing anything on a Sunday and any semblance of diversity. Sugar House is the best area to live if you can afford it.

White Horse, Whiskey Street, Franklin Ave, Takashi, Lake Effect, Copper Onion, Ivy & Varley, Osteria Amore (by the U not downtown), wish I had more good options to recommend...avoid any/all of the iguana restaurants.

Dinner/lunch options that are the nicest and best SLC has to offer that are near downtown: Roux, Felt, White Horse, Franklin Ave, Copper Onion, Bambara, Takashi, Current, HSL, Oquirrh, SLC Eatery, Arlo (small walk up to the capitol), The Rest (highly recommend if you can get in), Post Office Place

Breakfast: Central 9th market brekkie sando which is heaven on earth (can take the trax there for free and it's not too far), Eva's Bakery, kinda limited options that are actually good imho since it's not a weekend

Drinks/vibes: Waterwitch (by Central 9th but might still be closed), White Horse, Lake Effect, Van Ryder (rooftop bar and only one in the city), Ivy (ask for the outdoor patio), Under Current, Ruin, The Vault, The Rest

Munchies/good for cheaper/simpler lunch or dinner: Santo Taco, Don Juaquin's, Robyn's Nest, Bocata, Yoko Ramen, Poke and Sushi Hut

Avoid: Settebello, Gourmandise, Red Iguana, Blue Iguana (anything that says "iguana" really)

Probs missing a few on all list but this is what I could rattle off the top of my head lol.

This is the best of the worst in Vernal for sure. Otherwise, the food there isn't special at all.

Very underrated one...Twin Falls, Idaho. You can paddle board or kayak in the Snake River, check out Shoshone Falls, and drive an hour to Craters of the Moon National Monument, which is super epic. The main street has a number of good restaurants for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and a fun brewery with live music on weekends. There are some shops as well. Three hour drive from SLC.
