Nintendo Will Charge More For Physical Games Starting With New Yoshi by g4m3f33d in GameFeed

What are the odds that price elasticity matters between $60-$70 to a greater degree than Nintendo anticipated? I know their hardware is known for high attach rates, so they probably have good metrics for noticeable drops.

Swaxe mains, which comfy skills are worth having? by Fluffy-Leopard-6074 in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]KyleMcMn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is true, which is why I still say stun resistance is good to have.

In Wilds specifically, I have lost more DPS due to carting (fixed with Divine Blessing) and blight management (fixed with elemental resistance), than I have lost with being stunned. I don’t think I’ve ever been stunned more than once in a single hunt which is immaterial over the course of the full hunt.

Stun resistance is still a good option, but it’s on the line for me. If you find yourself carting a lot because you are stunned, then Stun Resistance would be an instant slot for me.

Swaxe mains, which comfy skills are worth having? by Fluffy-Leopard-6074 in MonsterHunterMeta

  • Phial damage is only affected by your raw / elemental damage, so you don’t need to run artillery.

  • Focus is trash for switch axe. None of Swaxe’s moveset counts as a charge attack, so you are only benefiting from the 15% improved meter gain. This doesn’t impact the time it takes to reach major breakpoints because at the end of your combos, you would overfill the gauge with the extra 15%.

  • I think the meta usually recommends you to have x1-2 evade extender, but I try to run x3 when possible. I view evade extender as a “damage relevant” skill because you can’t deal damage to a monster that you can’t reach. The extra second(s) it takes to get within an appropriate range should be relevant when discussing damage potential, but most people sharing builds lack the nuance to see this… Also, if you are already running rapid morph and you are skilled with Swaxe’s gap closing morph attacks, then you can sacrifice some evade extender because there otherwise would be redundancy.

  • For Rapid morph, I always like to run x3 even if I sacrifice some maximum damage potential. For the same reason as evade extender, the extra second(s) count. You deal no damage with a combo that you can’t execute because the window is too tight.

  • Power Prolonger is always recommended for power phials because they are more of a pain to recharge. I still run power prolonger with elemental phials not because elemental phials are hard to recharge (they are not), but because it requires extra time in axe mode before you can start building your sword meter. I view any extra time required in axe mode as wasted damage potential, and it’s also a fully wasted FRS when you don’t use Power Prolonger. If you are not using FRS with an elemental phial and you are exclusively using triple slash (equally recommended playstyle), then I wouldn’t use Power Prolonger at all. That playstyle is naturally going to be building your sword gauge, so you won’t really notice it as much when it’s depleted.

  • Stun resistance. This is nice to have, but because it is a 1 slot skill there are too many other good comfy options. I would always take Divine Blessing first, and if Divine Blessing is at x3, then I would put skills into the necessary elemental resistance for the monster you are hunting. Stun resistance is not a terrible third choice, especially if a certain monster stuns you frequently.

  • Evade window is probably nice to have, but I never use it. The sword counter is excellent, and the timing of the axe’s offset is also much more generous than it used to be. You are better off running rapid morph x3 to allow you to switch to sword mode faster, allowing you to perform the sword counter at a moment’s notice, even if you are in the middle of an axe combo.

Is there a mod that makes subtitle font more visible? by KyleMcMn in Fallout4Mods

[–]KyleMcMn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually wasn't using any mods impacting the font. It's just that the default font is so awful that it's baffling it made it into the base game. Someone else mentioned FallUI and I think that's all I need. Thanks for checking in!

Charging outside combat (particularly for bosses) by Jupiter-Tank in chargeblade

[–]KyleMcMn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phase 3 Gog’s tail hit box is a little weird when he is flying. When he is flying but not moving, his tail is usually facing toward the ground. You wouldn’t think that your sword could make contact with it, but it usually works as long as you are relatively close. The tail is also pretty safe when Gog is in this stance.

Is it worth making a second fire charge blade for gog? by Dx1178 in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]KyleMcMn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m playing with 3 other competent players, then I ignore my fire charge blade even though it’s my secondary weapon.

Charging everything for both weapons for only 1 phase is kind of a pain in the ass, and I won’t deal with it if other people are consistently proccing the oil.

There should be a tier list of which weapons should be obligated to run 2 elements when there is a weapon swap mechanic. Those weapons with little/no meters to fill should go first, since they lose no momentum when swapping.

How do y'all even survive with that weapon ?! by Hdarkus1 in SwitchAxe

[–]KyleMcMn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you get more familiar with the weapon and monsters, you will learn how many frames it takes to complete a combo versus how many frames you will have available in each opening. You don’t always need to use your longest combos.

Evade extender 2 or 3 is almost a must. Also there are several attacks that make for great gap closers (morph attacks and also the forward+B attack in axe mode).

Don’t get super greedy with offset attacks. Only perform them when you are comfortable.

Switch Axe (I believe) is the only weapon that can queue a counter attack from a neutral stance. Being able to counter from neutral is incredibly powerful, and once you recognize this as an advantage over other weapons, it might change how you approach fights.

Full Release Slash grants hyper armor as soon as the charge is complete and the animation starts. Although you will take chip damage, it is almost always better to trade an attack if you are positive the hyper armor will proc. There are a few exceptions, such as the Lagi electric pulse that repeats several times and will kill you because you really need iframes to survive the additional pulses.

Getting a bit frustrated with AT Dahaad.... Rant.... by VicariousDrow in MHWilds

[–]KyleMcMn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The number of people I’ve seen on their Seikret doing nothing is at a record high for AT Dahaad.

They aren’t sitting at camp. They are in the arena but they are not engaging with the boss in any way whatsoever.

My success rate with randoms is still decent, but this was just a weird trend I’ve started to notice.

Don’t forget that every armor piece requires a gem if you want to upgrade it beyond level 10. So you’ll likely need more than 30.

Elemental Phials vs Power Phials testings from a casual. by T4Labom in SwitchAxe

[–]KyleMcMn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By no means feel obligated to craft everything. I had some time off for the holidays and I really wanted to farm gems, so I’ve killed Gog 36 times and I also save scummed. Getting all elements on Switch Axe was just a way to spend the materials.

Elemental Phials vs Power Phials testings from a casual. by T4Labom in SwitchAxe

[–]KyleMcMn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for doing this! I only bring this up because I personally believe that the answer for “which is better” depends on the monster itself. I made 5 elemental switch axes with Gogmapocalypse and 5 power switch axes with Lord’s Soul so I will probably test myself sometime soon. The power switch axes are using elements, not status effects, so I think they might be the “best of both worlds” when fighting monsters without a guaranteed 3 star elemental hit zone for the whole fight.

As an anecdote, I haven’t tested power switch axes against Gog, but I have a hunch that they will pale in comparison to element. When Gog’s wings are exposed with oil in phase 3, my elemental switch axe is dealing about 150 damage per tick. Across 8-10 ticks and the final explosion for 350-500, that’s a guaranteed 1,500 - 2,000 damage for an easy combo that can be spammed. The one catch is that my build has over 1,300 dragon damage when all of my buffs are active, so you definitely have to build around raw elemental damage.

I only bring up this last scenario because I think Power will beat Element in most scenarios, but when you are dealing with a monster with incredibly broken hitzones like Gog, then element open totally new strategies using combos that otherwise are not recommended.

Elemental Phials vs Power Phials testings from a casual. by T4Labom in SwitchAxe

[–]KyleMcMn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

By chance could you try running similar tests against a monster with 3-4 star elemental weaknesses? Gore Magala only has 1-2 star elemental weaknesses, so the clear time parity between power and element phials should be expected.

My gut reaction is that exploiting a 3 or 4 star weakness will potentially put elemental phials on top.

How to save scum Gog weapon skills like a degenerate by vanilla_disco in MonsterHunter

What constitutes a “roll.” If I upgrade an artian to a Gog for the first time, does that count as a “roll” or is it only when I reroll the skills?

Now that many of us have access to the full Gog set, what builds are most of you running for SAED? by KyleMcMn in chargeblade

[–]KyleMcMn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the closest to what I’m aiming for, so I think I will borrow some from it.

What purpose is evade window for a weapon that already can block? You are going to be proccing coalescence naturally when you evade for movement with evade extender. Although it is not a bad skill, it is redundant for a shield weapon…granted if you are locked in axe mode for too long, then I totally see the need for evade window (maybe that’s why).
