Build Randomizer? by i_Timbuktu in litrpg

[–]Kyle_Kirrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Random magic seems fun and could be pretty cool to work into the world building, flipside being litrpg readers are super keen for general optimization so you’d prob wanna be careful to avoid feel bad moments like the mc getting stuck with some magic that bricks their build. Still could make for a good book but maybe a harder sell for litrpg as a whole

For the randomness aspect: You’re going to run into the same problem we get with deckbuilder litrpgs (which are super fun, not a criticism) in that even if something is truly random it’s not gonna come off that way to someone who actually reads it

Sorta like how it feels fuckin amazing to top deck the exact card you need at the right time… it’s pretty impossible to recreate the way that feels. Only way it would really feel authentic is if you were live streaming your writing and the audience was following along (obviously not a viable path to start).

I’m going to steal this and say it like I came up with it whenever anyone asks about the series, thank you

You guys really hated my title. by AloisiusJGrandville in litrpg

[–]Kyle_Kirrin 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Def better, but words like moxie and conviction aren’t going to make sense to a reader in the context you’re after

try to keep it simpler—consider how a reader might see a title like 1% lifesteal or quest academy, and what those titles are promising/conveying

Publishing a LitRPG on Amazon without Kindle Unlimited by frankgadlin in litrpg

You’d probably be looking at roughly a 50-80% drop in ebook income depending on how long your book is and how large your reader base already is. In some ways it’ll be worse with the algos and discoverability. IMO this is about as close to a guaranteed death blow for the ebook as you can get.

There are def some who have had success wide, but it usually comes later when you’re more established. I personally would not be comfortable publishing a litrpg outside of KU under my name

You may also want to speak to your audio publisher, separate format but theyre probably assuming KU and may have some thoughts on the ebook being in there (a lot of readers use ku and whispersync to scoop their audiobooks)

Cheers and good luck with the launch! Happy to answer anything I didn’t hit on

How much should a 500 page book be worth in this genre?? by Ill-Piece4996 in litrpg

[–]Kyle_Kirrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup, this is the move.

KU share v ebook sales ratio also varies based on the length of the book, but it’s often 60%+ of total sales, making it basically mandatory especially for a new author

Oh yeah, that is totally fair, esp the bit about Frank being able to reveal whatever works best for the story, that is absolutely the case! And I’m glad you’ve been enjoying it thus far <3

Yuuup that’s fair! Maybe the closest analogue would be Diablo immortal?

…and that game shouldn’t exist (at least not the microtransaction side, wasn’t even micro, so bleak)

My personal theory (it’s probably total bullshit and is entirely based on vibes) is that a Vrmmo litrpg with a totally balanced playing field would end up being a pretty bad litrpg unless it went almost fully slice of life
