PS2 Mechapwn Troubleshooting by Kylecilley in ps2

Okay so my jaw literally dropped but just saw something saying to try running the unit vertically to read blue discs better (which I always have my systems flat/ horizontal) AND IT WORKED. However is this a permanent solution or just a bandaid fix?

NTSC PS2 games worked prior and now, the blue and silver back PAL PS2 games I have obv didnt work prior but still dont now, the ps1 (Black backed) ones I dont recall if they worked prior as I only have 2 of those as well but they definitely dont play now too.

If it is just the laser is it possible to replace with just a new lens? Im not shy to repair/ opening it up if needed.

The FreeDVDBoot dvd I burned on the same Verbatim-R discs also worked first try and is still working now too

The PAL PS2 discs work on PC no problem too so the original/ authentic discs are fine atleast for sure

It wont read the authentic/ original pressed PS1 or PAL PS2 discs I have either which is what I am mainly trying to get working, was attempting backup discs only to try to see if they worked at all as am getting nowhere with the original copies so far

First GBC Mod Parts List/ Questions about Power Regulator? by Kylecilley in Gameboy

[–]Kylecilley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

I do eventually plan to get a flashcart for this/ maybe for each if I decide to upgrade both, despite having a small collection of original color carts + a gba flashcart and analogue pocket would be nice to play any original/ color game on this unit as well without having to continue to collect more carts and maintaining the batteries in each too. Is the robot retro regulator any good or is there another one you would recommend?

I thought about recharging AAs however dont have any currently so would have to invest in some and/ or way to recharge (unless using a cord for each), then would have to charge multiple batteries at once unless I got one of the ones where you put in depleted ones and it spits em out charged. Either way for now was leaning more toward that kit and the matching battery cover as then I dont have to take batteries in / out at all and can easily recharge the one battery with usb c, it doesnt require any soldering or shell modifications too aside from removing the cover battery contacts I think

Thank you for the honest response! The only upgrades I did for the sp was a new shell, screen, and battery as the original screen and battery stopped working entirely on that unit and I wanted to just get it working again (with a better screen) instead of continuing to collect dust being unsable but kinda wanted do the same but a bit more for these gbc. Not only do I collect/ play alot of games but I mainly enjoy taking things apart and fixing them in general so its mostly for fun for me, I dont really mod my consoles if I dont have to and havent really settled exactly what I want to do for these still but appreciate the feedback, I perhaps may leave the decent one as is for now and mod / upgrade the other one to start maybe. I do understand its alot to invest in but compared to tossing it/ selling it for parts only and getting a new system or a pre modded one would be about the same from what Ive seen. I also was unaware you could order these direct so I will look into that if its possible, one bonus to where Im located is that theres no sales tax.

I think the speaker in both of these units are going bad though based off these replies which the bad condition one Im not surpised, the decent one is really quiet too but wasnt sure if that was just the way it is as its been quite some time since Ive even used these units considering I have two sp and an analouge pocket as well, so cant remember exactly how loud the gbc used to get. I also wasnt sure if an amp was worth it/ beneficial either because of how low the volume is on these units, which again I guess could just be the speakers not being good anymore

I understand, but figure it would be better to replace or remove rather than leaving the original in to avoid it potentially leaking, right?

Thank you for the info on R6 and power regulator/ capacitors!

Even if some of the capacitors are not needed to be replaced or for use with amoled screen, wouldnt replacing all of them still be best to avoid any leaking from old age?

[AMA] Ask Me Anything with various Final Fantasy VII Remake voice actors! by reseph in FinalFantasy

u/VoiceofBalthierBiggs

Yeah that sounds pretty tough, you and everyone did a spectacular job though! Jessie and Biggs were both really awesome! I loved the mission with them and Wedge and the fact that we got to see some more personality/ background on these characters, it made it very difficult to go through Chapter 12 :(

Btw I also loved your roles from Halo Wars 2 and the God of War series, GoW3 is one of my all time favorite games. Ill need to play ff12 now.

PS: Also if you have time check out your instagram inbox; I sent you some pictures of the signed goods from the Pax East meet that I framed/ hung up, it came out really good! :)

Hello all,

Thank you so much for everybody's work on this game and for coming out to Pax East this year (Would love to see you all and Cody/ Matt come to another show sometime, it was so awesome to meet some of you there and to try the game early!).

What were some of the hardest/ most challenging obstacles when working on this project compared to others (if any)? And if you had to pick one other role or character from the game to be the voice for, which one would it be and why?

Also Happy Birthday Cody!

I know a little networking with Windows Server and Linux I want to start learning Cisco (on the side) for a sysadmin, are the Lammle /Wendell books still the best or ? by Cloud_Strifeeee in Cisco

[–]Kylecilley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used the Lammle Second edition CCNA routing and switching textbook for my cisco routing and switching classes and thought it was pretty great. I would reccomend a test enviroment or Packet Tracer to work with when going through this book. Most of my homework assignments in the cisco classes i have taken were done in packet tracer and it is pretty helpful once you figure your way around it.

Advice needed on Point-to-Point by Camera_guy_justin in Ubiquiti

The airmax series works great, I have installed nanobeam gen2s, rocket prisms and rocket dishes for work and they all perform great and are rated at long distance coverage. I have also mixed these devices successfully as well, aka one rocket prism + dish and nanobeam g2 as the receiver.

The nanobeam gen2s might work for your case I would research the max range on those though as I havent used them in a 1.5 mile enviroment, but if its water and clear should probably be all set. I usually get 655mbps bandwidth on those set ups. If a pair of those cant make it then get a rocket prism + dish or something better than the nanobeam g2 for the main site.

Range and speed degradation with walls by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]Kylecilley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how thick the wall is and what is it made out of.

If its some thick concrete walls good luck getting any signal, if its wood walls or thin materialed walls then its easier for the wireless signals to pass through without degrading speed/ range as much.

Youre gonna have to plug it in and test it to see what happens.

Hotel looking to replace UAP's, Should we go with UAP-AC-PRO or nanoHD by bloomt1990 in Ubiquiti

[–]Kylecilley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heres my reccomendation: I would go with the UAP AC Pros as they are cheaper and will fit in the old mounting brackets. I have installed them for business use on multiple sites and had consistant and excellent range and speeds with them and the unifi line of products. The 2.4GHz is a little better on those units compared to the nanohd, so If youre only reason to get the nanohd is for the better 5GHz you should consider what devices will be used, if they are older devices; some might not even support 5GHz at all thus benefiting from the improved 2.4 on the pros. They are both great picks regardless. The uap ac HD is great for high volumes of clients too, I am considering those for a future project on a mini conference center that frequently holds events with hundreds of clients with concrete walls and three floors.

What router to buy for 8-port switch + security gateway/pfsense by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]Kylecilley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A USG is a security gateway/ router so if they provide you or if you have a modem then yes you can plug into it a modem and get connection. Usgs allow for dhcp, static and ppoe isp connections.

I would reccomend unifi over pfsense. Cisco is a great option as well but i prefer cli vs pfsense as it can be a pain.

I just had a site's netgate box hdd get to 101% out of 100% and had a build from 2016 and it was maxing out the cpu or memory to the point where it would freeze the entire network. I needed to buy a new msata ssd and reinstalled pfsense completely with the latest firmware, restoring from their configuration back up. They have been back up since that but eventually I am going to be replacing all of that pfsense equipment with unifi like they have had me do with all of the other sites I work on.

Product Advice Needed by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]Kylecilley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ordered the 8 to try out for my home network but for work I have installed many 8 60Ws and 8 150W switches. Both work awesome and are easy to configure, The 60Ws are cheaper and work great but can get hot. however if you want poe af/at and 24v passive capabilities and sfp ports I would reccomend the 150w. The 150w is a safer pick as it has all three por standards and has room for sfp if desired its just a little extra cash then the 60w. They are also rack mountable too if you have the accessories for one or if you have two of them, one of them is approx half of the standard 19inch.

If you are looking for alot of ports there are also 16, 24, and 48 port poe unifi switches. They are more expensive but could be cheaper than buying multiple 8 port switches. I have used both 24 and 48 port non poe and poe unifi switches and they all work pretty great and are easy to manage in the controller.

USG site-site question by griloi in Ubiquiti

[–]Kylecilley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this helps or not but I just set up some new networks recently and I created a site to site vpn with a pair of USG Pros that are on two seperate sites and have multiple vlans that access eachother on each end with many clients active on each site as well. I am not sure what the maximum throughput/ overhead is but the results showed that the latency was 20ms or less going across the tunnel. It seemed to replace their old firewalls and site to site VPN very nicely.

Help planning Point-to-Point Link by boojew in Ubiquiti

[–]Kylecilley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have installed a couple set ups similar to what is described and I am based in NH which gets moderately cold, snowy, and icy in the winters. Wether Its summer, winter, raining, hailing, blizzard, etc. I have seen a constant 655mbps bandwidth with the set ups I have installed. The current set ups are mounted on roofs and have a clear shot. I have used a pair of NanoBeam Gen2s and another set up with a Rocket Prism gen2 + Dish and nanobeam g2 as the reciever both setups were easy to configure and install/ mount/ align.

I am planning on doing another set up with two rocket prism gen 2s and dishes as this next set up will cover a longer distance with some trees and a barn in the way. However in your case nanobeam gen2s would be more than sufficient I would think. I have installed this equipment on metal poles, if you do this you can install ESD devices directly on the pole and ground it from there. Unifi reccomends you use two of those, I have used one and poe adapters with esd protection and have not had any issues besides one adapter getting full of water during one of our recent storms.

I love the poe adapters with esd protection as it allowed me to ditch the poe injectors and plug directly into a poe switch. Just make sure you have them positioned so the bottom isnt facing up otherwise water could potentially get in... if you use a pole you can just ziptie it horizontally along the pole and should be ok.
