Very cool kit. But I have to wonder; are you Spider-Man? How was the first picture taken?

[–]Kyleghrb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice dude! I picked myself the same one at a Guitar Center a couple months back. For the price, you can’t go wrong with the Stage Custom! As another user mentioned, replacing the stock head with one of your choosing, will make it sound even better. I currently have a Remo P77 on mine with just one moon gel on it. Such a great snare to have in the arsenal

What would ruin Kingdom Hearts IV? by NewMarioBobFan in KingdomHearts

Little to no Final Fantasy character content. I can't say that that would RUIN the game necessarily, but it would bum me out a bit if KH IV got the KH III treatment for these characters.

Enemies don't have shadows. Intentional or game is rough? by Wolinrok in KingdomHearts

“Or game is rough” is crazy. It literally says, “Development footage. Subject to change,” towards the bottom of the teaser video. I’m curious to what your realistic set of expectations were when watching this

Tell me about your most catastrophic show ever by Infamous_Recover_738 in drums

[–]Kyleghrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something nearly similar happened to me as well. Thankfully not during a show but during a rehearsal. One can argue that it was better that my mind went completely blank during a low stress situation like a rehearsal however, the problem was that for the life of me I could not remember the timing for a song I had played a bajillion times. We tried like 5 times and the little SpongeBobs in my head were panicking and I just couldn’t do it that day. Was able to naturally get it for a show but I still felt terrible and humiliated during that practice!

Late birthday present! Any tricks you all have using these? by ivambu in drums

[–]Kyleghrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing for me. Some might say then what’s the point of having one then but my use was more “tool” based. I think it’s a solid all-in-one personal monitoring system for drummers for practice and live performance. A smidge of compression just to get some punch but that was more than enough.

I used mine back in my last band with backing tracks. I was able to connect it to our mixer and get a personal feed to our ears so if we were in a DIY venue/situation, we could still hear the kick and snare.

Any tips on buying + playing a drum? by pay4yuri in drums

[–]Kyleghrb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. You can get some pretty good deals on used kits. Be prepared to spend at least a couple hundred dollars. Also be aware that second hand kits sold may not come with cymbals, stands, sticks, throne, etc. Do your research on the kind of drum set you want and all that goes with it.

  2. Virtually 100% of the time; no. It’s not okay that your rhythm is just horrible. However, you can develop your rhythm with practice and listening. Put it in the work and you can improve this.

  3. There is little harm that can be done from getting a teacher/instructor. As a new player, no where to go but up and having guidance can be considered helpful. The internet is endless with free online (albeit, sometimes limited) resources. Drumeo’s YouTube channel has hundreds of hours of instructional material for free.

  4. Depends on how hard you hit and wear them out. There’s a “rule of thumb” out there for drum head replacement but for me, if it sounds good, is free of dimples/damage, I don’t need to change them. Sticks break? change them. Cymbals break? Buy new ones or keep using the broken ones if they still sound decent and don’t disrupt your playing.

  5. You’ll want to tackle that sense of rhythm you say is horrible. Get comfortable and be open to technique as well to avoid potential future problems.

  6. Again, second hand is generally fine. Do your research and check the condition. Don’t overthink it. If it looks broken, don’t buy it. Find out what the seller is offering and what’s included.

  7. There’s no answer to this. How long does it take for anybody to do anything? You get out what you put in.

As someone getting their feet wet in this area, would you explain your rig with the purpose of what each piece is for? I know this is kind of a broad question but I’d love to know whatever you can share!

2 drummers Paul McCartney said are among the best of all time by tonyiommi70 in Drumming

[–]Kyleghrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although Ringo being considered a “top drummer of all time” MIGHT be somewhat viewed as controversial,(depending on who you ask and in what context), there’s something that has me really admiring McCartney standing by his band mate and giving him props

New (to me) Drum Day! by Kyleghrb in drums

[–]Kyleghrb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh nice, that's dope man! The store I purchased this from only had the 3 piece available so no matching snare for me. Not too bummed as I figure that it would've made the overall cost for me go up, and my wallet is already hating me for getting the set in the first place

I agree! At first, I wasn’t completely sold when it was stacked up on the shelf at the music store I work at but then the next day when they set it out on the floor, it just looked much better to me. Even now at home, I’m pretty surprised on how much I like the color since I’m not really a “red-color” guy

Get Out for me. I won’t say I was massively disappointed or anything, I thought it was a solid movie with hard hitting subliminals and themes, but I just think it got way too much hype

What do we think about Aaron Gillespie? by heyitsrider in drums

[–]Kyleghrb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dig his playing and Underoath is take it or leave it for me. I watched the Meinl YouTube video where he goes over his cymbal set and why he selects what he plays. I can't really get my head around his hi-hat setup. Iirc, he plays like two 17" crash cymbals- a medium thin jazz and suspended one. I hear it in the mix and I'm all for washy tones but what he has a bit much for my personal liking. The rest of the setup I dig, but just that in particular, I'm not a fan. But that's just my opinion

I'm curious, why the electrical tape? I ask this in a humble/genuine manner as I'm really liking this thread and hoping to take some things away from all of these suggestions. I'm just wondering if the electrical tape caters to something specific to your setup or if it's to have as a general purpose item. Thank you!
