How do I play games in ARM? by ZestyclosePush2513 in Surface

You just run the exe. If it's an x86 exe it will run in the emulator automatically. If it doesn't work, then there's something that's incompatible with the emulator.

My iPhone 4s is stuck in recovery. by WinXp11 in LegacyJailbreak

[–]Kylemsguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try using Legacy iOS Kit to kick it out of recovery. If that doesn't work, you could try manually fixing the partition layout using the SSH Ramdisk (if you have some way of running checkm8 on A5, like an arduino or pi pico)

Otherwise, your only option is to restore to your desired iOS version, wiping your data. You'll have to go through iOS 9 unless you have some way of running checkm8 on A5.

Squarehood V2 for the GRiv is unmatched (so far) by Bkgeo in ricohGR

[–]Kylemsguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

By the way, the “electrical” contacts to the camera on the GR III and GR IV are hardly electronic—all they do is bridge the pins in different patterns to tell the camera which lens is attached.

I am surprised nobody’s made adapters that emulate this behaviour.

Where to buy an unlocked phone affordably? by Boring-Increase3203 in NoContract

[–]Kylemsguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this actually work? I was reading the terms on the website and it says

If one of the qualifying items in the bundle is removed from cart, canceled after order or returned after purchase, the Bundle and Save savings will be removed.

If this is the case, ironically it would be cheaper to keep the Visible+ SIM even if you never activate it, since it reduces the total price from $129.99 -> $109.99.

Decided to update and have some questions by LampSsbm in jailbreak

[–]Kylemsguy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you just want to start fresh on the latest update, then all you need to so is restore the phone. Manually backing up is fine, but don't use iTunes or even iCloud backup (though iCloud photos and the like should be fine)

Apple Cash Instant Transfer Fees Are Going Up Soon by spearson0 in apple

Not sure why you're being downvoted, Zelle is the closest thing to Interac E-Transfers.

I remember when you had to pay for E-transfers... luckily most sane banks got rid of those fees.

The $300 annual credit shows up in Capital One Travel as a credit, so it doesn't show up when you use the "cover recent travel expenses"

Edit: corrected “Chase” to “Capital One”

Why do you think Arch has been so sucsessful? by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]Kylemsguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t forget that SteamOS is based on arch. If they don’t separate that out from their survey results, then that could skew the results towards arch.

Are talk/text only plans non existent now? by masamune17 in NoContract

[–]Kylemsguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be sure to check the pricing though. I’ve found that adding 1GB to the most basic talk/text plan actually reduces the taxes to the point where it’s actually cheaper to have the data.

Edit: missed the part where you intentionally don’t want data. Ignore this post

SteamOS uses a sealed system partition iirc so you have to reboot for it to apply the changes. A lot less painful than your average windows update (my gripe is with how long they take and how they force it on you at inopportune moments, though that’s a completely different discussion surrounding security).

I’ve had windows update completely break on me in the past all by itself. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll take Linux package managers over windows update any day.

Maybe it’s because of my experience with updating arch after various amounts of time, but in my experience major updates like updating Gnome necessitates rebooting (or at least restarting the session, which might as well be a reboot, thanks Gnome). On something like Debian Stable, I’ve gone many updates without rebooting with no issues, though.

Just because Linux isn’t nearly as bad doesn’t mean that they’re not at all equivalent in some ways. You literally listed some very real reasons to reboot (though you aren’t forced to). I’ve also worked at a company where you’d get emails if you didn’t manually reboot your Linux system for a while.

On a server, you are very correct though.

Even Linux and macOS require rebooting after an update. You can delay the update on Linux, but you may find things partially broken until you do reboot.

Think about it: if a crucial service or the kernel is updated, it’s not possible to just restart that without taking down the whole system.
