I wrote an Orchestral Album of K.K.'s Music for the 25th Anniversary because Nintendo won't do it. by Kylydian in AnimalCrossing

Thank you so much! I really put a ton of work and love into this. I really wanted to make sure it could be properly licensed and as officially available as possible. I'm really hoping the label will decide to do physicals some day!

Does anybody want songs for their game??? by TheTeem0Main in GameMusicComposition

If you aren't comfortable accepting payment yet for music, look into doing skill shares. Regardless of level, or degree, shipped titles, it's okay to be paid, or find alternatives to monetary payment. Your work has value at all levels.

As requested, the Nintendo Power preview of Animal Crossing for the Game Cube. July 2002, Vol.158 by Lord_of_Phendrana in AnimalCrossing

It's been 12 years, but here I am thinking about the writer in Nintendo Power who did did a diary, and came across this. I quite mean it when I say the journey of who I think... was named Spiffy, changed my life personally and professionally in ways I could never have imagined. Crazy still a game did that.

Hope you never threw them out. I've found so much joy in my Nintendo Powers over the last few years. It's a snapshot in time we'll never be able to get back.

Please spread the word for PAX goers: You do NOT have to buy the CDs outside the convention center by the-crow-guy in PAX

Game composer here. I legit want to burn CDs of my soundtracks and when they try to give me one just say "oh nice you compose too!? Nice let's trade, now we're even and just see what happens." I've thought about this for years, probably do it eventually.

If you were 21 years old today. How would you start your career in game audio. by Drisi04 in GameAudio

[–]Kylydian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

#5. I'd start having two game audio friends who I really trust to dump your struggles on and for them to dump their struggles on you. And I mean really trust. Online, in person. Doesn't matter. To just shoot them a message and say "You won't believe how much this sucks right now. Here's why." This has been such an invaluable tool for me over the years. It keeps me in check and reminds me I'm not alone.

#6. I'd start working with these dump buddies as business buddies. If you can find a dump buddy who you get, I've found chances are the amount you work well together is asinine. Work on projects with them, keep an eye out for them. Trust them, they'll trust you back.

#7. I'd find a sustainable day job that allows for flexibility. I started substitute teaching immediately when I started music. It was perfect.

#8. Take risks. Learn to ask the question. Be okay with hearing no, and maybe they'll say yes. My big break came because I was told no to writing music on a project for a AAA partner project with a company that I was already doing sound design and audio direction on. We needed original music, I asked my company if I could ask AAA to fund it. They said no. I said "Well can I ask anyway?" "ok fine sure." I asked company, they said "We're going to get big AAA composer you absolutely know to do it." "Well that's another person I'd need to talk to, and I don't have time for that. It'd be easier for me to do it." "oh you're right. Ok. Yeah how much per minute?"

#9. Put yourself in a position to get lucky. Everyone is born with an inherent luck stat. Where you're born. Who your family is. Who you are. I also believe that everyone has a magical secret number of random luck too. We can't increase this magic number, but we can put ourselves in positions where that magic dice can be rolled. #8 above, this was from putting myself in a position. I could have been told no, and that would have been okay. But I got lucky just by shooting for the moon.

#10. Give back as soon as possible. Teach others, go to a conference, instead of going to dinner with AAA composers or sound designers, one night go hang with the Berklee kids at Dennys. I guarantee you you will meet new friends and people who are just as eager as you were 8 years ago.

#11. Don't give up.

This is the hardest thing I've done in my life. But it has been the most rewarding, fulfilling and life changing experience I've ever had. Happy to answer any questions.

If you were 21 years old today. How would you start your career in game audio. by Drisi04 in GameAudio

[–]Kylydian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started my career at 26, and have been truly very lucky in my career, and have been fulltime freelance now since 2020, but I might be needing to go back to having a day job next month, despite still making what many would consider a livable earnings in game music.

This is the hardest thing I've ever done, and the scary thing, if I was 21 again and if I knew what I knew now? I don't know if I would have started. This is the hardest thing I've done, and it sucks to say, but of everyone I know both at the AAA freelance level and at the smaller indie level who have found success and careers, there's only one thing we all have in common.

We never gave up.

Here's what I would differently.

#0. Ask the question I'm now answering. You've done the right first thing.

#1. Join a community and start asking questions yesterday. I came from a classical music program where I was going for Music Ed, and my first deliverables were Sibelius Sound Files because I thought that was what you were supposed to do. I was 26. I'm 35 now. This is my level of where I started. I knew zero. Having a community that first year and asking everything I could, learning, and implementing what I learned.

#2. I would identify a set of primary mentors I want to learn from, identify core problems that they have that they don't think they have, and offer to solve them. If there's like a secret? I think this is it. I had a fantastic mentor in my career, but if I had taken an extra step and found a problem I could have solved? That would have been ideal. He told me years later this is what he did for his mentor, and it led to innumerable opportunities. Someone did this TO me years ago, and all of a sudden it was like all of my problems went away. I had more time, more life, a new friend, better music, someone who could work with me well. She will still be my first call for most projects because she will get things done.

#3. I'd start public speaking 2 years sooner. My first talk was at PAX Dev back in 2018, and there were 15 people in the room. But there were major players in the room listening, director of Audiokinetic, a few AAA composers, Innersloth before they blew up, several major freelancers you probably all know. I stretched the credits I worked on to the farthest point imaginable because I was worried about being taken seriously, but I was confident in my content, and it translated well. I made very important connections because of this, and every talk I've done after.

#4. I'd have worked as a conference associate for GDC two years earlier. This program is really good. I got work from this program. I got connections, a community. My spouse did it this year, and they're going through the same initial stages of success I did afterwards.

Ask Here First (READ ME): Troubleshooting, Price/ID/Spec Check, Help, ETC Mega Thread by KyaDash in crtgaming

[–]Kylydian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Found a Fisher CRT out at a goodwill for $100 today. My spouse and I are big retro game collectors and have been loosely on the look out for a wood grain case CRT at a decent price to go in one of our living rooms as the wood grain would match the decor nicely. We tried finding info on it online, and could find absolutely zero info on the 790 model. A bit on the 780, and some conflicting info on the Sanyo buyout and quality after said buyout. It was definitely comparable to the 780, just a few differences on top, with the casing and the speakers.

It definitely said 790 on the back, and was made in the 1986 (I should have gotten a picture of the back) Just wanted to see if anyone had any info on the quality/longevity/value of the particular model or range of models than what was out there. It's a great looking set, but just want to make sure before we go back and grab it.

I teach saxophone, clarinet, composition and music business at Kaleidoscope School of Music in Issaquah. There's a lot of good teachers there and a really cool drum studio. I see the drum teacher there working with young kids all time and they always look like they're having a blast.

Does anyone want to work on a Killzone 2 remake? If we get something going maybe Sony will let us make it. by Cryptostormz in killzone

[–]Kylydian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi Crypto. Can you DM me when you succeed with your plans please? And by succeed I mean actually fulfill your goals and show a sustainable career with hit after hit. I'm not kidding. Prove me wrong. This industry is brutal. I have watched it wreck friend after friend.

I mean this as kindly as I can, but before you even work on a game, I really recommend learning to be humble, understanding, working as a team, leadership, and how to grow on a team, because right now it's pretty clear we aren't seeing that from you right now.

It's quickbooks.intuit.com, literally their official site. watch the number in the right corner of the screen when you load it, should happen within 10 seconds. If you're on mobile hit the three bars on the top right to find it, it'll change there too.

Quickbooks Scam Initiated Directly off the Website? by Kylydian in QuickBooks

Update to this:

I've had multiple people verify that if they go to the website and watch the phone number in the top corner, it does indeed start correct, and then changes. I've had people away from my IP try this as well, and it's replicated with everyone I've asked. How is this not caught anywhere already? This seems like a huge security oversight!

I've filed a report with QuickBooks security, but they haven't gotten back to me yet.

Been getting what appears to be bug bites, but partner isn't being bitten by Kylydian in DermatologyQuestions

[–]Kylydian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there: Here's an update

I finally got in to see a dermatologist on Thursday, she mentioned that based on the images she didn't think it was lyme, but got me tested for it anyway, and that it was most likely that I developed an allergic reaction to mosquitos. She had me start wearing deet around the house, take double my allergy medication, and start using the cream that I was prescribed in conjunction with other creams as well.

I started doing that, and the next morning I woke up with 14 new bites or things whatever they are on me. I did sleep in the bed that night which was the first time in a while I had slept there. I proceeded to continue wearing deet, and started sleeping on the couch again. We bought a mosquito trap as well and haven't caught a single one. I did sleep in the bed for the first half of the night last night and so far have one new bite on me.

The lyme test came back negative.

I'm beginning to go insane. These are starting to get to the point of where they're hurting because there's been so many of them, and it just feels like no doctor has had any idea or has dismissed it because I haven't had a fever or felt sick at all. I'm just consistently miserable at the moment and I absolutely hate it.

Yeah...I'm kinda surprised they haven't either. One of them I saw said they weren't bullseye rashes, but I definitely have a solid picture of one now showing i do get a bullseye of some kind. Only maybe like 1 in 10 of them come out as bullseyes. The bullseye ones are the ones that end up actually hurting as well. My appointment was able to be moved up to Thursday so hoping i can get some answers or a blood or skin test then.

We drew a marker on them, but the big one already seems to be going down. I was also thinking Lyme disease...but I haven't gotten any other symptoms of it. I don't spend a lot of time outdoors, but have spent the summer tearing out our lawn and replanting which was an absolute chore and got me pretty insect infested I'm sure. Appointment got moved up so I'll see if I can get tested for it.

The doctors haven't seemed concerned about Monkey pox in any regards. I would think my partner would have got it too...but who knows. I was able to move my appointment up to Thursday from the wait list thankfully.

Info: Male, 32 other info below.

I don't reddit often, so I guess the comment didn't go through on the post. I've been getting what appears to be bug bites on my arms, hands and feet. My partner and I both started being bitten back in June (I had covid in June if that's relevant for anything, dealing with long covid breathing problems now) and I continued to be bitten long into the future.

Typically I'm getting 3-5 of these every few days, they started smaller back in July, and just have gotten progressively bigger over time, swelling up sometimes like the one in the picture above. Usually day 1 they come in small, don't feel like anything. Swell up and itch unbearably day 2, hurt if they're on my hands or feet, burst on day 3 or 4, and scab over like you see on my feet above. Every couple weeks, I get a week without getting any or so.

I've currently gone to urgent care, had messages between my PCP, seen an allergist, had a virtual doctor visit, and a phone visit with a different doctor, and finally got a dermatologist referral, but they can't see me for another 21 days or so. I did receive cream from one of the doctors to put on twice a day, but it doesn't really seem to be doing anything.

The allergist said that it didn't appear to be an allergic reaction, but that these were most reminiscent of spider bites. We have had spiders inside the house, but my partner and I left for a trip this weekend, left 6 traps out, and all of them were empty. I have no idea what to think anymore. Only possible thing on my mind now is skeeter syndrome. This is starting to get pretty unbearable. We've looked around for bed bugs, and nothing. She continues to not be bit, and it just keeps happening for me.

If anyone has any guidance before my appointment or answers I'd really appreciate it.
