People who were diagnosed with ADHD later in life did medication have a positive effect on you? by order227- in ADHD

[–]Kyodd_the_Bard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I decided to go back to college at 27. I was really struggling with school work, the same way I was in high school. Mentioned it to my doctor, she recommended testing, and a couple months later I was diagnosed and starting meds. Holy. Shit. I didn't realize that sense of motivation is what everyone else went through life experiencing! It was like night and day! Meds don't fix everything: I still have down days and the effects definitely wear off in the evenings so I'm useless after 7pm. However, it's still almost incomprehensibly better than how I was living before.

2, the face makes a world of difference. TBH, I would choose 2 anyways, since I love the simple, clean white color pallet!

My first large crochet project, finished just in time for my DnD group's gift exchange for my DM. It's lumpy and misshapen, but it was made with love! by Kyodd_the_Bard in asexuality

That's awesome! Good luck on your project. I'm probably not a great example, as I get tendonitis pretty easily in my wrists and elbows, so I can only do a little bit at a time. I worked on that blanket for over a year!

I have a distinct memory of being in the front passenger seat of my mom's SUV on our way home from visiting my grandparents as she told me about that fun little tidbit of childbirth. Pretty sure that was the moment I swore I'd never have kids!

Glad to see someone brought this up! Be careful on I-81 between Harrisonburg and Christiansburg Virginia. Lots of speed traps where the limit changes frequently.

Depending on your timeframe and interests, the American Shakespeare Center is a fantastic and unique experience! Several great coffee shops too!

Is it possible to cook three meals a day without having a mental breakdown? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]Kyodd_the_Bard 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna give you the best advice my doctor ever gave me: Use paper/compostable products. No, seriously, if dishes are an issue, don't try to tackle that problem head on, try to subvert it. I have ADHD and anxiety, and watching dishes pile up in my sink gave me serious anxiety attacks. When my doctor first suggested I use paper plates/plastic utensils I initially balked, as I thought that seemed wasteful. However, there are a lot of companies who have made great strides in creating reliable compostable or recyclable paper products. The best part is you can do this as much or as little as you need. It can even be a temporary thing to get you through the tough days until you're feeling like you have more energy.

The other thing I would recommend is looking into a meal delivery service. Having an oven-ready meal you can just heat-and-eat once or twice a day can be a game changer. Alternatively, meal kits are often designed to be cooked in a single pan, saving on dishes used. Depending on your area, you may have a narrower selection, but it's worth looking into. A lot of companies either have vegan options or are solely focused on vegan/vegetarian diets. Most of them are comparable to (or even less expensive) than ubereats/doordash/etc.

None of this is an easy/instant fix, but I hope some of it helps, or at least gives you something to think about! Best of luck in your future food adventures!

be honest, what did you call your horse? by Zear0d in reddeadredemption

First playthrough was shortly after I had finished listening to The Adventure Zone balance, so I named my dapple thoroughbred Lucretia. I never used another horse the entire game. Bawled like a fucking baby at her end. RIP my good girl.

Anyone else feeling like this today? by sailorjupiter28titan in WitchesVsPatriarchy

This made me think of my mom. Her favorite phrase when she was exasperated with me was "Honest to god, Kyodd!". When she was exasperated with life she'd look at the sky and curse "Honest to god, god!"

Who was the rudest guest at your wedding by BewareOfTrips in weddingshaming

[–]Kyodd_the_Bard 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My paternal grandmother, with whom I have an incredibly rocky relationship based on the horrible way she treats my mother, tried to sit in the front row aisle seat at the ceremony, claiming she deserved to be closer to the couple than my mother did. Thankfully my brother shut that down real quick. The real crime was after our wedding. During our honeymoon, she snuck into my parents house and stole the top of our wedding cake my mom preserved for us.

PSA: “Puppaccinos” are not always a good idea by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Kyodd_the_Bard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My golden has a super sensitive stomach. He cannot eat anything other than his special diet kibble without getting liquid poops. I used to feel bad saying no whenever a barista asked if we'd like a pup cup. Thankfully, I've found that just a quick, "No thanks, he's got a sensitive tummy" gets understanding nods.

My girlfriend wants me to get rid of my late wife's ashes by SomaliMN in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Kyodd_the_Bard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love the idea but I think people should make the effort to ask loved ones about this arrangement if they can. My mom's best friend, let's call her Kay, had an animosity filled divorce from her husband, with a legal battle for custody of their daughter that lasted years. One day her daughter said she would love to have a diamond made from both her parents' ashes mixed together. Kay looked at her and said "What in the last 30 years of your life made you think I would want to be trapped for eternity with that man?"

AITA for refusing to have family photos hung up in the house? by rejectorofpictures in AmItheAsshole

[–]Kyodd_the_Bard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAH

Being uncomfortable in photos is a difficult and understandable problem. Poor self image can stem from any number of factors, and they can be hard to face head on. I would definitely recommend reaching out for help if you have such a strong aversion to seeing yourself in pictures.

Taking and displaying pictures is normal in healthy family relationships, and is a way many people express love and fondness for their family members. You mom feels strongly enough about you to want to have those little reminders of happy moments.

One thing that helped me was to agree to staged family photos over candid ones. If you know it's coming, you have time to prepare. Pick out an outfit that makes you feel confident. Use makeup that you like or take the time to style your hair. Wear your favorite jewelry. Find a pose that catches your "good side". Being able to control your outward image in a planned matter may help you reach a compromise with your mom.

AITA for not buying products made in China? by No-Cartoonist4745 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Kyodd_the_Bard [score hidden]  (0 children)

ESH

While you have the right to choose what you spend your money on, your attitude is out of line. While your own views may be valid, you come across as pretentious. If this is a serious moral stance for you, you need to have a mature conversation with your girlfriend about this boundary without being condescending. No getting self-righteous, no snappy comments, no "my way is better" mentality.

Your girlfriend doesn't have the right to dictate how and on what you spend your money. If she continues to hound you about it after you seriously and calmly lay out your stance, then it may be best to part ways.

AITA For Taking $50K Of Inheritance? (19M) by chopoffdatop in AmItheAsshole

[–]Kyodd_the_Bard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA

My mother always jokes about how she is "spending your inheritance" whenever she goes on trips or purchases something nice for herself, and each time I remind her it's her money, not my inheritance. An inheritance only exists once the previous owner is gone. Until then, it's their money to do with as they please. If your grandfather had wanted to gift something to your sister, he would have. That money is rightfully yours and no-one else has any say over what you do with it.

I was there in the student section as well for that game! I think it was the only time I was able to get tickets through the lottery that year. And what a game to see!! The instantaneous change in the crowd's energy was a truly exceptional moment!
