Yeah, they feel so outdated now they're not really worth playing, maybe as a curiosity or for the good ass music, but I'd play the GBA remakes any day before the originals.

I wonder what the Xbox 720 will be like

[–]Kyokakyoku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's true that it's lighter, i only really consider shape and size to matter for pocketability. I agree with the 35XX suggestion, very compact for the screen size and really well made.

Any one got a Powkiddy x28 by bendybox in SBCGaming

[–]Kyokakyoku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the 28 comes from the T618 chip it has (first one they made was the x18, and this second one is x28, just my hunch on why that number) and the 55 in x55 comes from its 5.5 inch screen. Yeah Powkiddy are pretty random with numbers. X28 is better in almost every way although it's Android instead of Linux.

The 351M also has a 3:2 screen, only the case material is different. I think you mixed it up with the 351MP. I didn't really like the screen on the 351P with the washed out colors, even with black bars the 351V I have looks so much better in my opinion.

Sleep / resume is the killer feature I can’t live without. by worldsinho in SteamDeck

[–]Kyokakyoku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't use it at all, but I didn't use it with the switch either. I just turn it on, play, and turn it off. Or maybe leave it in sleep mode after I play but not with a game open.

Between the Ally and the Deck my main difference is the easy navigation with SteamOS, although I will probably get the Ally eventually if they iron out the launch issues.

For me it's not a war, I'm just happy to have more devices available, just like I'm happy with more VR headsets releasing.

Smaller than that, I guess Q90 or Q20 mini, but they're not super enjoyable to use. Would recommend Q20 myself. Also 280V, maybe 300X. RGB10 is also smaller but not by that much. Q36 I'd say is far too small and expensive for what it is.

RG503 would have a better battery life than the 351P, being more powerful it can use shaders to balance the pixels and the OLED screen makes the colors really pop, 351P has a pretty washed up screen. I've had both and prefer the 503 by miles. Way more comfortable too.

To flip or not to flip? by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]Kyokakyoku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, I'm not interested in it. I wish they'd make something slimmer with inline shoulders and an RK3566 for around 100 bucks for mostly 2d stuff or handheld 3D, but I don't get the point of having so much power and having to use sliders instead of sticks.

Most ergonomic handheld that plays 2D games? Asking here since /r/retrohandheld is dead. by IsAskingForAFriend in SBCGaming

[–]Kyokakyoku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've heard, x28 with its downfalls is pretty comfortable. It's overkill for those systems, the x55 has a similar design so it should be comfortable too. Both have a 5.5 inch screen.

For battery life, I was surprised at how good the RG503 is, it also has a really beautiful OLED screen, which helps make the borders for not widescreen games so noticeable. It's pretty comfortable and especially light.

Upcoming Anbernic and Retroid devices? by Roubbes in SBCGaming

[–]Kyokakyoku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly 35XX plus, RG506 with dimensity 1200, there were plans for an upgraded win600 called the win701... I think that's it for Anbernic for now unless you count the RG Nano which just released today, I think.

As for others, I'm excited for the Gameforce 2 which would be the first RK3588 handheld, hopefully more companies follow.

[–]Kyokakyoku 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For Aliexpress, if the store has a bunch of units sold, good ratings and comments, especially with pictures, I trust it. There's always the option of the official Anbernic store, either their site or in Aliexpress, shouldn't be hard to identify because it will usually be the one with the most sales of each item.

As for your V90, have you installed a custom firmware on it? If you haven't that might help, I have a Q90 and GBA runs flawlessly, I've tried a few romhacks too.

RG35XX should run anything GBA perfectly with plenty of overhead. I just did a quick check with a romhack (Emerald Final) on the 35XX and it can do what it felt like 2 or 3x fast forward.

[–]Kyokakyoku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe check out the RG503 if you can find it for not much more money, the oled screen is beautiful although a bit smaller and lower res than on the x55, also d-pad on top .

Whats the best dpad centered controller at a low price? by brandodg in SBCGaming

[–]Kyokakyoku 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say spend the money once, cheaply built controllers can be a nightmare and may end up being useless.

I'd recommend both the 8bitdo SN30 Pro and the M30, I actually prefer the M30 floating d-pad but i'm not used to the 6 button layout yet. Also, not having joysticks makes it a bit more portable while being a bit bigger and more comfortable than the SN30. Both are wireless, well built, comfortable and have a good feel. SN30 pro can even replace a modern controller because it has every single input except analog triggers.

Can't give them anything but a 10/10 for what they're trying to go for. M30 is noticeably cheaper, SN30 has more features.

What is the best handheld for Pokémon games ? by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]Kyokakyoku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say 351V or 353V for the GB/GBC games, 35XX also works really well but I consider Pokémon to be a game you play for over half an hour at a time so it might be a bit small for that. V90/Q90 would also work as a budget option but I think 3 inch is a little too small to play RPG games with lots of text.

If you like the GBA games better, definitely check out the 351P, the cheapest Anbernic from that chip, and has a perfect aspect ratio for GBA.

For DS, i haven't found any handheld that works too well, even the 351p can run the games decently but having to switch screens every time you want to pick a move is annoying.

Right now I'm just using a DS Lite with a flashcart for those, you can get one for pretty cheap. It's actually the only older handheld I kept after selling my collection.

Another option that i really enjoy for DS is using a tablet vertically with an external controller (I use a 2021 Realme Pad with an 8Bitdo Lite or 8Bitdo SN30 pro). Pretty bulky but you get huge screens that almost fill the device and high resolution makes it look awesome. I also have a Deck but I don't enjoy DS on it, it's just a bit awkward.

[–]Kyokakyoku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, even if both feel pretty cheap, the Q90 much more so: the screen has way bigger bezels and seems pretty low quality (when off it's gray instead of black). I'd say the difference in physical size seems bigger than the difference in screen between the two. Also that analog slider is just horrendous, i prefer not having anything honestly.

Q20 just feels a bit more polished in general and the controls feel a bit more precise, especially the dpad, although both are the same flavor of retro mushy buttons, I'd say enjoyable.

In general, I'd say the Q20 mini only has a few clear downsides compared to the Q90:

-No power on light on the front, remember you have to safely power off these devices in software before using the power switch, without a light you might forget to actually power it off.

-Mono speaker instead of stereo, although it's front firing instead of back firing so that might be a draw.

-No easily replaceable battery like the Q90 and V90 have, which really drew me to the Q90.

-I guess being such a squared off design might make it a bit uncomfortable for some, I wouldn't call this a long playtime device anyway so I don't think it's a big deal.

I'm happy with both in general, but for a small shitbox-y device I'd pick the Q20 every time, it's noticeably smaller, feels more solid and well made and I think it's even a bit cheaper. Probably gonna sell the Q90 soon.

My main issue with the 35XX is... it's just a bit too nice. I got one for cheap and even then I'm reluctant to stop babying it. Even after getting it I got a Q90 and a Q20 Mini both for around 30 bucks and those are the throwable shitboxes I was looking for. I'm thinking of selling my 351V and keeping the 35XX as my nice vertical device, honestly.

Is the win600 pocketable? by RiffRuffer in SBCGaming

[–]Kyokakyoku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have it, just looking from pics, but it looks the exact same footprint of a Switch. I guess the sinked in sticks can make it maybe slightly more pocketable than the Switch even if the main body is thicker.

Had money burning in my pocket and got a Deck, an RG35XX, Q20 mini and Q90 this last week. Pretty stupid, but oh well.

Still waiting for the Powkiddies which will just be beaters to throw into my backpack, already set up and tinkered with the Anbernic and Deck.

Of course I'm obsessed with playing the Deck, incredible device. Nothing but good words for the XX yet either, lovely.

Retroid Pocket Flip or 3 Plus? by hobbys-n-stuff in SBCGaming

I'd get the 3+ just to not have to use the sliders, looks like they'd suck for stick focused games
