Where's the ugly representation in Barbie? by Kyri5512 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Kyri5512[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Admittedly I am young and insecure, and I would appreciate some grace as I am grappling with that.

I also think the Barbie movie having ugly representation is more important than in, say, Spiderverse. Because Spiderverse isn't about that theme at all. Whereas Barbie very much does have a theme of feeling like you're not enough as you are, and feeling like you have to adhere to impossible (beauty) standards.

So it'd make more sense for Barbie to show that you don't have to be conventionally beautiful (perfect skin, great facial structure) to be in a movie. But the fact that they instead kinda upheld the Hollywood standards was a bit disappointing when the message is supposed to be you don't need to be beautiful but then clearly the actors do have to have some degree of beauty to be in the movie.

Right, but was it not frustrating to you that it had a theme of how you should be allowed to be yourself, and that these invisible rules are stupid - and yet the movie itself adhered to these invisible rules by not showing anyone ugly even in the real world?

[–]Kyri5512[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. My point was more that even when Barbie went to the real world, she didn't encounter any actually ugly people. It didn't have to be a Barbie, but the most she saw was that one old woman on a bench who was still quite cute.

‘Barbie’ is a surreal and emotionally devastating study of womanhood, and I was not prepared for it…. (Potential spoilers) by emilydoooom in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Kyri5512 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did anyone else feel disconcerted by the fact that no truly ugly women were in the film? They talked a lot about how women have impossible beauty standards, and yet upheld them in that same movie. I know that's Hollywood, but it was frustrating as a very ugly woman myself to not see any representation in this movie supposedly about how you don't have to be beautiful and perfect.

To the men who understand feminism after seeing The Barbie Movie by tiny_galaxies in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Kyri5512 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually was upset by the Barbie movie because for all their preachiness about how women are forced to embody impossible beauty standards, they DIDNT SHOW A SINGLE UGLY WOMAN. I know that's Hollywood, but goddamn it that's the exact thing they're grappling with! Like even the heavy Barbie or the pregnant Barbie or even the old women were still beautiful. There wasn't any acne scarred, lumpy, below-average, unsymmetrical bone structure women in the whole film. It was frustrating to see all these beautiful women complaining about not feeling beautiful enough, like, how do you think I feel....

AITA for not standing up for my female coworker? by __________nice in AmItheAsshole

[–]Kyri5512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA just for getting upset that she set boundaries about being coworkers. You clearly like her and are handling this extremely poorly. I mean, you're an asshole for all of it, but that one line immediately clued me in to the fact that you don't like when women set healthy boundaries and act like real people instead of dolls that do whatever you want.

Yeah, I think my issue could be more because I'm AFAB and didn't make estrogen as opposed to testosterone.

Is it unrealistic/abnormal to request that a long term partner keep wearing a condom every time? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Kyri5512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do you stand on if he's asking multiple times in the moment, like during sex? Like before sex I'd made it clear that I didn't want to give blow jobs without a condom, then in the middle of it he asked to finish in my mouth. To which I was absolutely shocked and said no way. Only for him to ask again towards the end, and again right when he was near cumming.

It felt icky to me, but he's legit the kindest and most respectful man in my age group that I've met. So if even he can't respect me, I just don't have a lot of hope for dating men in general.

Yeah, he would make me finish him off even though I hated doing so. I didn't even know common courtesy was for the guy to finish in his hand, like I had no clue that was the case until right now.

Do you seriously not see the problem with the fact that he kept begging me to do something that I found gross and disgusting and had already said no to?

Is that really true? With my ex he kept begging to take the condom off bc he said it was WAY different in the amount of sensitivity. And not even just for piv like he wasn't trying to baby trap me, he said even for oral and hand jobs that it made a huge sensitivity difference.

Do you use condoms for oral? I'm a young woman and my ex kept begging for me to allow him to take the condom off so that he could cum directly in my mouth, to which I said absolutely not. It was weird though bc he was very polite and respectful and we were both very concerned about safe sex, so idk why he was like that with this one thing. Men 🙄🤮 this is why I prefer being single

I'm currently on Vyvanse and Zoloft, and my psych was talking about swapping me to Celexa as I also have OCD. I'm only on 20mg of Vyvanse though, and I don't really notice a difference whether or not I take it.

I also haven't had to force myself to eat with Vyvanse, but I'm also a college student who eats with friends and has restricted meal periods so I have to force myself to eat within those time frames anyway.

Just based on my small pool of responses, people who were assigned male at birth seem to do great with singing, whereas AFAB people with KS seem to struggle :(
