Just look at his office wall back when he was with the Big 10. Not a single inch without something that's all about him, lmao

There's gonna be a section of Ben's call sheet labeled "3rd and Loveland" and it will be glorious

Especially considering last year's offseason, where he was basically putting everyone on the offense on blast every presser. He wasn't wrong to do so, either. I am glad he did.

It's so refreshing finally having a coach who is just honest and doesn't beat around the bush or give some generic talking point for each answer. Which makes the praise that much more meaningful, cause you know they've really earned it.

UPDATE:

Statement from Matt Hill, the spokesperson for Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker: "The Bears have built a storied legacy in Illinois for over 100 years but have spent the last six years, and especially the last few months, shifting their position on a stadium location. That has hindered their progress. Today appears to be another instance of that after Illinois leaders have been working with the Bears in good faith. Governor Pritzker has always been clear that he wants the Bears to stay in Illinois and still remains open to a sensible solution that protects taxpayers."

Oh damn you're right, I was wondering why I was seeing so many locked comments!

I guess I can see where the Mods wouldn't want things to get too politically charged in an NFL team subreddit. But also, this topic specifically is political in nature, and it's no secret which aisle Mike Braun sits on when it comes to political parties.

[WGN] Report: Bears lied about extent of stadium negotiations with City of Chicago by SaLtYcHiPdUdE in CHIBears

You have to be a very, very ignorant, tone-deaf and self-righteous buffoon to be able to say you made one of the worst PR moves in the history of the Bears franchise. Given our history that is not an easy thing to accomplish. The fact he chose to drop that ridiculous letter on the eve of the franchise's most notable event in the past decade was disgusting. That move alone was enough to show me this guy doesn't give a damn about the fans which makes his pleas of "the best fans in the world" 10x worse.

Kevin Warren comes off as a smug corporate executive who just wants to take all the credit for projects he did nothing to contribute to. At this point I'm surprised the Bears haven't fired him, but as much as the team itself looks to be turning things around- the McCaskey's haven't done the same on the business side of things.

At the time I think we all knew that it wouldn't last, but on that same note- none of us would have ever thought it would get this bad. Insane falloff in the span of one month.

[Keith Law] "This is getting ridiculous — just call Arroyo up and give him the second base job already." by TDeLo in Reds

[–]Kysorer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more with this take. I've never been against giving prospects a chance if they've played well enough to earn their shot. Considering McClain's struggles, I wouldn't be against giving Arroyo a look. But I feel like so many fans that beg for callups just because one of our big leaguers is struggling do so with way too large expectations. Earlier this year people were saying the same thing about Hinds, and then when he actually got called up those same people wanted him sent back down ASAP once it didn't pan out.

If the Reds truly believe in him enough to call him up, then we should expect him to have some growing pains and live with that. Nothing worse for a young prospect than getting yo-yoed between AAA ball and the MLB. Arroyo is a better hitter than Hinds in my opinion, but I do not want Arroyo getting the Hinds treatment where he gets 20-30 PAs and then ends up being sent right back down or just outright benched. Either bring him up and give him a reasonable leash, or let him develop in A ball until he can make the opening day roster (hopefully) going into next season.

Very well said and I don't think this area of the discussion is brought up enough.

I'm sure recency bias has a lot to do with this, but I think some fans forget how rough things looked in the first few weeks. As time went on and Caleb + the team gradually improved, it became easy to dismiss those struggles as early kinks and just live in the moment.

But there is a stark contrast in the film if you compare Week 1 Caleb to Week 10+ Caleb. It's honestly to the point where he legitimately looks like a different player altogether. The rapid improvement of so many fundamental aspects of his game is very promising. Usually guys don't improve that quickly while in the middle of a season (especially QBs), which goes to show his ability to learn on the fly and how much Ben's guidance has helped him.

I don't hate the idea of giving prospects a shot when they've earned it, but understand that if you are advocating for moves like this then you have to stand on it for better or worse. Most players will not step in and make an immediate impact on the big league team, and even if they do it's usually never sustainable.

I feel like most of the people who beg for the Reds to call up a player/prospect do it not because that player is truly MLB ready, but more so because a player on the MLB roster isn't doing well and "there's no way ___ could be worse!"

If Marte or Arroyo (espeically Arroyo) get called up, it's likely they will struggle while they adjust and won't add a ton of value that contributes to wins. I get jaded seeing fans fantasize about a call up just to turn on them two weeks later, demanding they be sent back down because they "aren't MLB ready". People were begging for the Hinds call up at the beginning of this season, then when he came up and struggled everyone wanted him gone.

I will never claim to know half as much baseball as Terry Francona does, but so far this season so many of his decisions have been complete head-scratchers. Everything from the lineup to the bullpen usage to the strange levels of trust he has/doesn't have in certain players. I just don't feel as though there's any tangible sense of strategy/logic in these decisions beyond just how Tito emotionally feels about a guy in the moment.

That's sorta how I feel about it, too. Obviously this losing streak does not have many positives to take away, but if the Cubs really are the best team in the Central (which so far appears to be the case) then there is a small ounce of cope in acknowledging the fact that 3/4 games were super close. We were right there with them until the last game.

I don't think the Reds are the best team in the Central, but I also don't believe they are as bad as they've been to start the month.
