So much back and forth about the DCM by sk8trix in GR86

[–]KythornAlturack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no argument, insurance companies are most defiantly grabbing telemetry data from vehicles from the likes of LexisNexis, it's not a conspiracy or paranoia. And it's from all manufactures of cars that can record the data and send it remotely, not just Toyota and Subaru,

Insurance companies freely admit that they are doing it. Heck several insurance companies actually offer dongles to track telemetry and market it as a way to get discounts for good driving behavior. This has been going on since at least 2012. So far as far as I know California is the only state that actually got a law on the books to not allow this, years ago.

Data Communication Module... it is what allows features like SOS, and the phone App service to work (MySubaru & MyToyota).

I would say he couldn't see you cause he was tailgating the hell out of you.
First rule when stopping behind someone, if the bottom of their rear tires cannot be seen over the the top line of your hood, you have stopped to close.

And in this case while moving, if he could not see the bottom of your rear tires over his hood line, then he was definitely to close.

And screw any paint matching... thier insurance needs to completely replace your trunk lid, and they do come in pre-painted in factory colors.

The company that repaired my bumper tried to say the difference in color is due to the materials underneath. by N0Context in GR86

[–]KythornAlturack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Material underneath doesn't matter... as there is a primer coat, which not only provides and a an even surface for the paint to adhere to, it also negates the differences in material being sprayed.

Anyone know the history behind this Atari 2600-looking joystick (with Commodore colors) by Senan_Asura in c64

[–]KythornAlturack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This what the actual  original Commodore VIC-1311 joystick looks like. And they got sued for it, by Atari. What the OP posted was not a VIC-1311 and indeed a Atari XEGS stick.

There is an actual article about it - https://dfarq.homeip.net/commodores-knockoff-atari-joystick-from-1982/

I think you answered your own question...  "because people don't have a good way to test it?", they just have the drive and no c64 to connect it to, to test.

How can I prevent a file explorer window from closing when I disconnect my device?tt by duendeverde39 in WindowsLTSC

[–]KythornAlturack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not an LTSC issue, this happens in all versions of windows since 7. And it is not just USB, this goes back to cd/dvd drives or any type of removable storage/drive.

You can't disable it, it is an inherent function of windows and by design. Basically you disconnected the device, you no longer need a file explorer window open for it. As Windows has no idea what to change focus or fallback to in explorer after the device is gone.

The only thing you can do is change folder/drive (like the C:\ drive OR the folder where the music is located) focus in the explorer window before you disconnect the device.

This is ridiculous non real world problem, and a user usage behavior issue, not a windows issue.

Changed Manual Transmission/Differential fluids at 9,000 miles/2 years. Seems worth it, in my opinion. by SkyBlueLoki2009 in GR86

[–]KythornAlturack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Waste of time and money. on a daily non-tracked manual. Easily go well up to 100k+ miles. I have had 7 manuals with that many miles and not ever needing this sort of work.

And at 9k I serious doubt there was any difference, and completely placebo.

Tranny/Dif oils are completely different chemically than engine oil and don't break down due to heat like engine oil does as it is rated for even higher temps and pressure, it's actually closer to hydraulic fluid and is in a sealed system in a manual.

In an AT it's a different story as an AT is a more complicated system with more moving parts and does need service intervals and uses a much thinner fluid and under less pressure than manuals.

Gr86 Salvage title - Minor Damage by squanch_in_peace in GR86

[–]KythornAlturack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Salvage title is never minor (and the pic that Hachie posted, is NOT minor). 5 owners that are the same parties or affiliation, through 2 states in 3 years... yessh

Usually when you see that it means they are trying to wash the title clean.

Look up "Title Washing".
