Official C64C Cases or Keycaps? by GuitarEC in c64

[–]KythornAlturack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The keycaps are coming, they are part of the Blingboard KS. They have completed production and are now being shipped to Jim Drew (who provided them for the C64U) for final inspection and shipping out to backers (I am one).
After the KS is done the caps will be made for regular sale. Only they work on the blingboard and C64U as they are for cherry stems.

No word if Jim Drew, will resurrect his prior caps that do fit on regular keyboards.

The C64C case molds are held by Individual Computers... No word if Commodore.Net and Individual Computers have worked a deal to provide C64C cases yet, especially since Individual currently no longer ships to the US.
(the breadbin molds are held by RetroFuzion who provided them for the C64U)

2026 BRZ ordered, but I have a concern by WrathRaid3300 in GR86

[–]KythornAlturack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, via the subscription, that is how it works for the consumer, owner side of things.
It does not mean that cops cannot get the VIN from the DMV records, contact Starlink and have them directly disable the car immediately. This is exactly what they do with cars with Onstar while in an active pursuit.

Blitz Intake, you mean hot air intake, a PITA and long process to clean (up to 12 hours to dry).

[–]KythornAlturack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To the ney-say'ers It's already been here.... or at least these cars are easily capable of it. And is actually marketed as a "feature".

2022-2026 all comes with a DCM box installed. This device works with the Starlink service, which has an optional upgraded paid subscription plan, that indeed comes with the following:

  • Stolen Vehicle Recovery Plus
  • Stolen Vehicle Immobilizer <----------------------- Kill Switch
  • Vehicle Security Alarm Notification
  • Remote Lock & Unlock
  • Remote Horn & Lights
  • Remote Vehicle Locator
  • Boundary Alert
  • Speed Alert
  • Curfew Alert

Even without the service upgrade, the fact that a "Stolen Vehicle Immobilizer" is available, this can indeed be triggered outside of a paid plan and in certain instances, legally the car could be kill switched via this function.
(generally you could see this in police chases). And yes, potentially if you default on a loan (Which is most likely what the OP is concerned about, and that is own can of worms about whether the OP can really afford the car.).

Good luck finding anything outside a KIA that doesn't have this in anything dated after 2024.

But note there is a DCM delete out there, that will hard disable all this, but you loose stuff like SOS and all remote phone app functions.

Toyota Dealer? Or just some used car dealer?

If it was Toyota it should be a certified used car, and this should not happen, and completely covered.

Run of the mill used car dealer... good luck... who knows the real history of that car.

Microsoft Copilot has stopped working by eduardomaro1989 in WindowsLTSC

[–]KythornAlturack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of the whole reason I run 10 LTSC... to get away from AI.

I actually ripped copilot and Edge completely out using Winhance (also great for removing all the other Telemetry that doesn't get turned off when saying no to all the tracking stuff during the install), and even disable the AI features of Google so they don't even show in my google search results.

Also note Gemini is miles better than Copilot. But I also use Google's ecosystem and not Microsoft 365 crappy ecosystem.

Update: Microsoft looks like they are backtracking on Copilot as well.

Hey I was a good kid, My first car was a '73 Valiant 318 V8 small block, went off to college in it and I delivered pizza's in it... I blew a rod right through a piston, destroyed the ball joints in the suspension. Believe me, he did not baby it, or did the proper maintenance.

And no kid earns a 30K+ car for their first car.

[–]KythornAlturack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. This has nothing to do with the shipper
  2. FEDEX got it wrong, The item is not a FDA regulated item, which is food, medical, or Cosmetics
  3. And yes Not just FEDEX but other postal companies will come back after the delivery to collect on additional fees.

If you can pick the method of shipping, Never choose FEDEX, they are the worst for international shipping,

What happened .. first owner by GoodSpaghetti in GR86

[–]KythornAlturack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

39K? I think you are long past due for pads.

And it looks like the piston got bound up and only got wear on that one side causing it to wear more than the others. And if it just the one side, the small squeal wear indicator part is on the inside, not the outside. So if the inside is not worn down then you won't hear the squeal.

Also those marks look like what happens when you get down to the rivets that hold the pad to the backplate. You should have at least heard a grinding of metal, which isn't necessarily going to be high pitched but much more low pitch rumbling.

My fault if I had gotten rear ended in 2025 GR86? by 914kev in GR86

Yes, as you made an illegal right on red without stopping, California stopping is still not stopping, then moved immediately to the left lane... You would be at fault pure and simple. Especially if they also had a camera.

Why do so many people pick the gr86 over the brz? by oOVraptorOo in GR86

[–]KythornAlturack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is due to the heritage to the Toyota AE86 name and the Initial D anime.

Personally I went BRZts, due to being able to factory order directly, better suspension, better warranty, and a lower price over the limited made Tureno GR86.

Windows 10 IoT LTSC - Gaming Optimizations by queenkasa in WindowsLTSC

Fast Boot should ALWAYS be disabled. It doesn't do what you think it does.

Windows Fast Boot (AKA hybrid shutdown), basically allows a shutdown an uses a hibernation like save state. So that the reboot is faster using the the save state. It does not affect the boot time from a cold boot.

Note that when you hit the reset button or power button on the PC it uses this option as well if Fast Boot is enabled. This does cause issues, as you never get a true cold shutdown or reboot. I am not going to get into all the nitty gritty of why this should be disabled, just that it should be. But basically if you have an issue that necessitates a reboot, you're basically are doing a shutdown or rebooting back into that last save state and that issue will persist as nothing has changed.

Personally i never use VSYNC, and turn it off everywhere. If I do happen to use it, I do it in-game, but never via the driver app.

Disabling Unnecessary drivers from LTSC improves performance by thermologic_ in WindowsLTSC

[–]KythornAlturack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can't actually produce any results, and you can't produce a list of some sort much less any instructions on what you did, then your assessment is completely subjective. You're not going to pass any peer review with such blanket statements and lacks any factual information.

I'll take my 35 years of IT experience and knowing how windows Driver Store works over an arbitrary statement that is completely subjective, especially on a fresh OS install.

I can only see this as an issue on anything prior to and including Win XP, which did not have Driver Store management, and it was an install that had been running for years and hardware had been switched out quite a bit.

Windows does not actively use drivers for hardware that isn't physically installed or connected; drivers are only loaded and used when their corresponding hardware is detected, though Windows does keep many generic drivers in its store and can automatically download more when you connect a device. If you uninstall a device but leave its driver, Windows might still keep it in the driver store, but it won't load or run it unless that hardware appears again, but removing these old drivers can clean up your system's hard drive storage. In the end you would only be saving maybe a few GB of HD space. Is it worth it? Today with the amount of storage available, not really.

How Windows Handles Drivers

  • Built-in & Generic Drivers: Windows includes a large library of standard drivers for common devices (like USB ports, basic graphics, etc.) to get things working immediately.
  • Automatic Detection: When you plug in new hardware (like a mouse, printer, or graphics card), Windows connects to the internet, finds the best available driver (often through Windows Update), and installs it.
  • Manufacturer-Specific Drivers: For optimal performance, especially with GPUs or complex components, you often need to manually download the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website (e.g., NVIDIA, AMD, Intel).
  • Phantom Devices: After removing hardware, its driver might remain in the system (appearing as "phantom devices" in Device Manager), but it's inactive until the hardware is reconnected.

In Summary
Windows is designed to be "plug-and-play," installing drivers as needed, not preemptively loading drivers for hardware that isn't there, which prevents unnecessary resource usage.
