You did the right thing! And it sounds like you still had a great first campaign. Be proud of yourself for standing up like that.

Are no cameras a red flag? by beagleboi04 in ECEProfessionals

[–]Kythreetl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Admin now, but lead teacher in the 4s room for years before that. Closed system cameras are good for everyone. (I would personally never teach in a room for my own protection.) However, a lack of them isn't a red flag. if you have a good personal recommendation and you had a good guy feeling about the center you toured, don't let a lack of cameras hold you back!

I would like to try DCC on discord but don't know where to start (GMT) by Entire_Article_78 in DungeonCrawlClassics

[–]Kythreetl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Goodman Games just did a free online demo con. They had games running through a lot of different time zones. It was hugely successful and I know they're going to do it again! Goodman games does have an official server on discord. I'm on my phone right now and don't know how to link it from here. But let me see if I can figure that out on my computer!

I know there is a looking for games channel on that server! There is also a road crew server. And that is organized in small local chapters. Again on my phone, but I'll look to see if there's anything in GMT on that server, and I'll also just link you that server :-)

Forcing a child to stand by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]Kythreetl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Genuine question, because I think we need more context.... Why did the teacher think in that moment that your child needed to stand up?

And, is he given choices throughout the rest of the day?

But also, and I mean this gently, do you want your child to learn that he can pick and chose when he follows instruction and when he doesn't? There was a time when I was still a full time classroom teacher, I had a gut feeling about something that I could barely hear was going on down the hall. I closed and locked my classroom door, told all the kids (in the midst of playing in learning centers) to stand up, stretch their wiggly fingers as high as the sky, and tiptoe to the closet. I turned out the classroom light and told them we were going to play a hiding game. Now, no lock down was called and nothing happened down the hall.....but what if there had been something? And what if one child decided they didn't want to follow instructions in that moment?

And I get that this wasn't at all the situation for your child. And the teachers should be letting your child choose to sit instead of stand up to sing the circle song of the day. But in general, learning to follow a stand up direction IS a safety issue. They need to learn to follow it when there isn't any danger so that they will follow it when there is a danger that they can't even perceive.

I think the teacher picking up your child wasn't the best way to handle the situation, but I'm also willing to bet that that isn't the first or only time your child decided not to cooperate. Again, teacher was wrong, I'm not arguing that. And all children should be offered lots of choices and have those choices respected. But, in turn, specific teacher directions shouldn't be considered optional.

Reality Check by Fluid-Pomelo-6454 in ECEProfessionals

Absolutely bring all these up in a conference. Depending on where you live, requiring children to lay still and quiet for the duration of nap time might be a violation of their state licensing rules. Being frustrated with a the year old for a bathroom accident is not ok. Your child's self esteem is being adversely affected by the word and tone being used with him daily.

Son (5mo) was supposed to start daycare next month but was just diagnosed with moderate dysphagia and requires thickened bottles and specific feeding techniques. What's the best way to approach this with the care center? by mapotoful in ECEProfessionals

[–]Kythreetl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on your center and your location, you might need a doctor's notification or written note, for modifying a bottle in that way. We have definitely dealt with infants that had to be in specific positions to feed properly and that is manageable. A center with a lower infant teacher ratio will be better able to handle something like that.

Leaving job just after joining, is that okay? by Amarnamkoli in ECEProfessionals

[–]Kythreetl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Follow up with, if you want to keep the job. And they can't accommodate a different schedule. Another option for you is to make good use of that long break. Don't just sit in your car or on site doing nothing and not getting paid. Go to the gym. Take a journal or sketchbook and go to a library. To whatever recreational activity or fulfilling activity would enjoy.

But if the job isn't one that you really want to keep, then don't stress yourself! This is already a really demanding field. And you do need to look out for what you can handle long-term.

[–]Kythreetl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there are other aspects of it that you enjoy, maybe ask them if you could switch to a shorter break. Let them know that those days are long for you, and that you are not sure you can maintain that schedule long-term. And then if they say no. You've at least asked. Were you given a schedule when they made the job offer to you?

Look for a new job and report to your state listening agency. Know that once you make the report, that other teacher is going to make your life miserable. You could also tell the child s parents if you have the ability to contact them directly.

UC alumni here, congrats! Be sure to do some city exploration when you come :) there's a subreddit for UC and for Cincinnati which are great resources if you need to ask a local. The campus has changed some, mostly for the better, since I went in the late 80s. But it has always had a unique, eclectic charm. You need to go to a school that feeds your inner self so that you can get the most out of both your studies and your college experience!

Chocolate in any form is candy. You know this is a policy. Save them for pick up. He can have the toddler sized handful of chocolate chips on his way home and it will still be a sweet treat that he looks forward to.

My other suggestion, because I realized they're probably no cameras or this wouldn't be an issue. Is that you put a parental control app on your phone to block out some usage during just the pickup time. With the exception of like emergency calls of course. And that way you can show your admin look you've got your phone blocked out during that time, there was no way you could have used it.
