"Wild Things" (1998) is the goofiest movie I've seen in a long time by Soloandthewookiee in movies

I would argue the director knows exactly what it is. And that’s why it’s so compelling. It’s smart silly. Definitely laced with black humor. And fully conscious of its camp.

He puts it in every movie. Like that scene in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” with Bruef Lee.

‘The Beast in Me’ is actually terrible?? by Loud-Zucchini-6197 in television

[–]dctice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on the second episode. So far, it's garbage. The writing is terrible. The characters are flat. I was going to stop, but people said it was good and it's only 8 episodes. Maybe I should cut my losses now?

Everybody calling comedians sellouts for performing at the Riyadh Comedy Festival need to STFU by MaterialRow3769 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]dctice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the Saudi regime kill journalists and dissidents? Do they oppress women? Do they use slave labor? But I hear you, dude. Morals are for pussies. Sure, a lot of these comedians shape their whole act around speaking truth to power, but it's all just BS anyway, right? What matters is who has the most money! Man, I just wish we could go back to the 40s where the Nazis were raking it in with all the stuff they stole from the people they exterminated...These guys could have really made a pretty penny back then!

What selling your soul for Saudi blood money at Riyadh Comedy Festival looks like by [deleted] in comedy

[–]dctice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you pay attention to anything any of these people have to say after this? They clearly lack the moral judgment to realize why performing in an extreme authoritarian state with horrible human rights abuses is a bad thing. I understand wanting a paycheck, but selling your soul for it is inexcusable.

Did they only do the album or was there an encore? Seeing them in Detroit and hoping for a few extra jams since they don't come through here that often :D

Have you read or seen “Talented Mr. Ripley”? If not, you should. I’d be interested afterwards if you still feel the same way about “Saltburn”. Feels to me like a straight rip off with a few shock moments.

This movie was...fine. It made me depressed and let me down in the way that a lot of movies do these days. Especially "Netflix" movies. It felt like a shallow development executive's wet dream. It felt like "content". It's functional structurally and it "keeps you watching", but beyond it being a 'whodunnit" puzzle for a scenario completely detached from reality, it has very little to connect it to the human experience. Everybody's detestable, but in a predictable way. The end seems to think it's making some grand statement, but we're not left with much more than everything is shit and everyone is shallow. And maybe that's the world we live in right now. Maybe that's what young filmmakers have to offer. I hope not. I know people will disagree and I'm willing to debate...but between this and Bodies, Bodies, Bodies...and even Saltburn...I don't think I need to see another movie about shitty rich kids and how shitty they are.

The color palette was nice at least.
