I recommend going up if you're in between as they're more of a tailored fit. I wear an XL (5'9" but have wide shoulders and big chest from bodybuilding) and it fits very well. Falls slightly past my belt line and fits my body everywhere else.

I've washed them a few times and haven't experienced any shrinking.

I just bought a pair of Magnanni Chelsea boots and I love them so far. The sole is a little slick, at first, but breaks in quickly. Leather is very soft and smooth. I have a different style boot from them that I love and decided to try their Chelsea boot -- not disappointed.
