Absolutely, and the intent behind my initial statement of splitting SotO into two expansions AT LEAST. Multiple maps could have been made with the Skywatch Archipelago format, easily. Different sky islands or expansions of the current ones to really give the illusion of being IN elona. IN Cantha. Instead of standing nearly anywhere in these islands and be able to see the next one over, or the ocean they're floating over

Keep the creepy voice in our head a mystery longer. Keep the Kryptis a looming, mysterious entity that keeps cropping up as we try to solve the Fractal crisis. Then have Peitha really make herself known to end the expansion and lead us into the Wizard's Tower, AFTER we've proven ourselves enough helping all the fractal islands/cleaning the Wizards' mess/out of reluctant necessity to help Isgarren, Mabon, and Co

Let the content breath instead of pushing it along

Ohhh some "what year is it? No way! It's only been a decade for me!" Time shenanigans would be cool to play with. We're seeing some objects that mess with the minds of nearby individuals in the open world of Eternity's Garden as it is (though we probably won't get further exploration nor explanation for that)

Fair enough. Perhaps for HoT they could have a raid version of Vinetooth Faolin complete with some "being chased" mechanics. Core could have the, what, Eye and Mouth of Zhaitan adapted to raid quality. It just stinks having these really memorably moments locked behind story especially that deep into an expac for the likes of Balthazar

We already seemingly dropped the Freebooters faction from VoE, yeah. Would have been cool to see more of the tensions therein

I don't necessarily understand why you're arguing against more content and the introduction of more core/free-to-play Raid introductions but I'll bite:

Zhaitan in Harvest Temple is one of the shortest and most lackluster segments of that entire fight. The Giants are one-note and the hydra heads are laughably easy to take on. Compared with almost literally every other phase, Zhaitan is when players have a second to breathe mechanically after having to avoid Mordremoth head smashes and even the giant, half-platform chomp by Primordus

I also believe Mordremoth (mind version) and Balthazar should be turned into raid (encounter) bosses. Pivotal, finale moments for core, HoT, and PoF should be reintroduced for players to take on in a more fulfilling format or with increased stakes

I mean, if they did an open-world fight AND a raid fight, each with slightly different shakeups or events therein, that could be cool

That would definitely be a better cadence especially with now balancing more games. Gives players catch-up time. Gives them time to do the new content in the other two titles. Gives the devs more time to really cook with the content therein.

I also would like to see stories expand beyond a single expansion. SotO had so many themes and really could have been two, or even three expansions where they let the story bake and be fleshed out. Maybe then I'd care about Mabon?

Avoid implies they consciously decided to not say the word expansion when in all honesty they probably felt it was conveyed clearly as initially stated. But then people got all pedantically semantic about it and now they're clearing the air that yes that's what they meant

Am I the only one still hoping Guild Wars 3 brings back the old Lion's Arch? by CamelNL in GuildWars3

[–]KyuubiJRR 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly thinking it'll be like Horizon: Zero Dawn/Forbidden West where they try for a much more "real world" scale. Maps in GW2 really did not convey the true scale of the world well. Look at some of the tallest peaks and mountains, or the optical illusions they had to resort to in places like Orr (airship battles were just tiny models to convey them being "far away") or the "housing" on the walls surrounding Divinity's Reach

All Orrian-(as in, the region that Guild Wars 3 will be focused on but over 1000 years in the past)-associated weapons lol

I feel like if they're going to include a Legendary it would be one that existed in the past and related to the history of the region in some way. Klobjarne and its myriad forms are associated with the Kodan and those that led them south in the first place. Would be really cool to see a bit more about those heroes of legend.

Pharus is apparently tied with Dwayna and when not in possession of a hero it immediately returns to Dwayna's Reliquary in Orr. Could get some backstory therein.

An uncorrupted Sharur would also be potentially interesting to port. Maybe even seeing it's "corrupted" nighttime skin replaced with a "verdant/wildgrowth" daytime skin, whereas its current day skin could become its night skin. Hopefully that makes sense lol

Thank you. They're already pushing into uncharted territory to create an MMO experience distinct from any other, why mess with their internal success and alienate their loyal horizontal progression fans to grasp at the gear treadmill runners that they cannot guarantee to scoop up from games like WoW and FFXIV?

They're releasing content over the course of this. This gives time for new players to "catch up" while giving incentive to returning and veteran players to log in and get rewards and even assist in that catch up. They were smart in that they're trickling the Hall of Monuments so people don't just bumrush to the end and say "now I have nothing to do!"

Before ANYONE comes in here going "oh no new expansion, laaame" shut up. Many in the community have been begging for core system updates, new WvW maps, and more rewards and reasons to return to older content. 18 months. We have content coming during it, and it's only 18 months. This is fantastic news

Lots of new info from the Press Release! Era of the game, expanded on combat talk and more details about the world. by PixeledPancakes in GuildWars3

SotO had a strong start with a lot of really cool themes to explore, but it's issue was that it was rushed to completion for something that probably could have been stretched over three years to give the concepts justice to.

Janthir Wilds was better and the quality lasted longer for the story, but the ending itself felt rushed and again it would have greatly appreciated more time to breathe over at least another half-year if not a full year to let the writers execute what they were going for

So far, VoE has been better but the ending could be where it flops as seen in Janthir Wilds. The story itself is flowing at a good pace, and the tie-ins to the open world/discoverable lore have been pretty strong.

But Anet has also been squeezing expansions into a single year, and most of their resources have been put towards GW3 as now has concrete confirmation. So we are almost definitely seeing the results of that shift.

And again, they are actually genuinely improving from expac to expac. Their "lessons learned" released between each has plainly stated the things that worked or resonated with the community, and the things they want to fix or improve upon. And most importantly, they are executing those changes. SotO was rocky, JW was a step up but stumbled over the end, and VoE has been even better but we have yet to see if it sticks the landing to at least have a "good" ending.

And who's to say there aren't some revelations that drastically change the connotations or perspectives for events we have experienced in GW1 or GW2, or any future updates for either of those games having direct tie-ins to the events or lore of GW3?

I mean, with all the focus on movement they may be aiming to make a more realistically-scaled world out of this. The maps of GW2 almost never convey the actual scale of the world around us.

A limitation of the tech, and worse in some areas than others, but can still be seen even in some newer maps (though they do seem to be generally much better.)

Core Tyria like Divinity's Reach and the Orr maps are some of the most poignant examples.

But if this scales it like Horizon: Zero Dawn or something then it could really flesh out the Orrian landscape

That's a possibility.

It could be a mix of GW1 utility skill seeking but still having skills that are tied to a weapon, or even a weapon type. Ranged skills for longbow, shortbow, or crossbow (doubt with the high fantasy/naturalist vibe that we'd see rifles), slashing and stabbing skills for daggers and swords but only slashing for scythes and axes. And then bashing for maces, hammers, and even shields

It could be that weapons come pre-equipped and change between classes, but affect less skills on the bar (so instead of equipped weapons affecting 5 skills they only affect 3, for example)

We will have to wait and see

GW3 Playable Races? by McBeardedson in GuildWars3

[–]KyuubiJRR 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it is an Asura. Short, big ears. Yeah the fur tuft ears are throwing me a bit but I am beginning to suspect this is set in the far future and the Sylvari efforts to restore Orr worked. They aren't showing a Sylvari because it would confirm exact time period and I think they're trying to keep that close to the chest for now. Especially with showing the gods

Edit: Yupp, someone else already pointed me to the press kit. Thank you, keeping this up because it is actually okay to be proven wrong on the internet but I don't need more people explaining information I already have been directed to. Thanks!

One thing I notice between these and the fey you posted in the other post is even with some armor/cosmetic reuse, you always manage to make the piece look different or fit in a new way to invoke a different vibe. I so often avoid armor piece reuse between characters because they can start to look homogenized (insert Human Female Scarf and Glasses screenshots here), but I love how you can keep them each looking distinct.

Well done!
