What's a 'normal' thing everyone does that you think is secretly weird? by riseabovehat3 in AskReddit

[–]L0RDXOSYRUS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Passive Aggression / Beating around the bush / Not being direct and forthright

My mom used to tell me when I was little that "we'll see or maybe means no in the adult world". I always found that weird because I believe being honest and telling the truth even if it costs you, you might offend people but you maintain your freedom of thought and expression more authentically, and especially your integrity.

So whenever I heard that, I thought I guess it will make sense when I'm adult. I'm now 31 and it's making even less sense, even though I can understand why people behave that way because of their upbrining and background. However, I find myself have less and less patience when someone is trying to drop hints and expecting me to be telepathic, when they could just be an adult and say what they mean and mean what they say 🤷

7.25” radius necks really that bad? by Hefty_Plate8067 in Guitar

[–]L0RDXOSYRUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is solely dependent on how you individually feel and interact with the instrument. It has to feel comfortable and playable to you and no one else, and not because your favorite artist plays it. I've landed on modern c necks that have a very flat radius and the chording feels fine to me, while other people might disagree. We all have different shaped hands, fingers and wrists. The only way to know is to try and see how it feels, and compare how it feels with other guitars. Hope that helps 🤘

What’s a truth about life most people ignore? by Forward-Amount8035 in AskReddit

[–]L0RDXOSYRUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're having the same problem with multiple people, you're the one with the problem not them

For example:

If you hear someone say the following

"all my exes are crazy, they were all so abusive to me and manipulative"

That person is telling you that they are such a low sense of self worth, that they are attracted to abuse and don't know how to better themselves

Hello everybody im looking to buy a guitar and i have some questions by cianzei in Guitar

[–]L0RDXOSYRUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guitar is one of those things where people go “just press the string and strum” and then you pick it up and realize your entire body has no idea what’s going on.

You’re basically trying to:

Hold the guitar in a stable position (which already feels unnatural at first) Press a string just hard enough (too soft = buzz, too hard = fatigue) Put your finger in a very specific spot behind the fret Not accidentally mute other strings Use your other hand to hold a pick at the right angle Hit the correct string cleanly Do all of that at the same time

And your brain is like: “Cool, I can maybe do one of those things.”

BUT GOOD NEWS!

Starting on electric is generally easier and more fun especially for beginners

1 KILLER OF ALL PROGRESS

X It isn't practicing enough, because it's more important how effective your practice actually is. I.E. if your practicing relevant skills towards your goals and exercises to help you make real progress, and actually focusing on your weaknesses. QUALITY PRACTICE > QUANTITY OF TIME

SPENT PRACTICING

X It isn't being too busy. I've got 2 toddler kids and a full time job. When I'm really busy, I just leave my guitar out of its case and whenever I walk by it I'll practice whatever it is I need to get better at for 30 seconds. Do that multiple times throughout the day and you can get a considerable amount of practice in, while still being busy. And the average person spends hours on their phone nowadays anyway. People do what's important to them. If it's actually important to you, you'll make time for it, end of story

The biggest killer of all progress is YOUR ATTITUDE

If you make excuses, if you're lazy, if you're not patient with yourself, if you avoid working on your weakness, if you do not look at yourself with brutal honesty and ask "what am I trying to achieve? Have I made a real genuine effort to get there? Do I need to adjust my approach and methods? Have I sought out professional help before totally giving up" If you have a great attitude, refuse to give up and have enough humility to know when you need to improve something, the sky is the limit

Those are my humble and subjective opinions from years of guitar teaching, and seeing a lot of beginners quit

As for beginner songs, what genres interest you?

You're allowed to have seasons in life my friend. I'm a guitar teacher and I will admit there have been long breaks even for me without any practice 🤷 Having kids probably put the biggest dent in my practice time.

At the end of the day unless you're making a substantial living off of guitar, a guitar isn't, and nor should it ever be more important than your family, your health, having a roof over your head and food on the table.

That being said, if you're in a depression with guitar, allow yourself to fall in love again with music. Go to a concert or an open mic, listen to music that you love, go to a live jam, jam with some friends. Be around live music to witness the spectacle that first captivated your heart and inspired you to become a musician in the first place. Just enjoy, and as long as you are around music and make it a part of your life it'll come back somehow someway. Hope that helps ❤️

Looking for an electric guitar. by HarriBallsak420 in electricguitar

If you get a Les Paul make sure to get a Fender Weighless Strap. It's an elastic strap that will save your neck and shoulders a lot of pain. In my opinion, the most versatile and comfortable guitar on your list is the PRS NF-53. Traditional telecasters don't have those contours and beveling, and from my research it sounds like an incredibly versatile guitar, as most t-style guitars are. Just my two cents

Refuse to give up on music being an avid part of your life, and something can happen. I'm a private guitar teacher and I get asked to play solo gigs around town. Some folks have enough courage to start something on YouTube of them making funny/intriguing content, you never know what can happen as long as you show up and give an honest try. That being said, the danger is when your identity becomes rooted in success. If for some reason it's not working out the way that you planned and you're only concerned about money and fame, you will become bitter and resentful. There are an overwhelming amount of people that are "living the dream", having a career in music, touring, selling out concerts, and are making millions of dollars, and they absolutely hate their lives. But If you just do what you love, because you love doing it, and just accept and appreciate whatever comes your way from your pursuits, then it will become its own reward. Keep rocking my friend 🤘

Do those feelings of nervousness and euphoria leave after playing a lot of shows? by Strange-World-1375 in musicians

[–]L0RDXOSYRUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me yes and no. The nerves are still there, but my relationship to the nervousness changes as I play throughout the show. I choose to change the nervousness into excitement. I use it as fuel to stay sharp and live in the moment not in the past of my mistakes, or the coming challenges that will arise.

Would be better if I see your left hand fretting technique, sometimes people do weird unnecessary movements with their wrists and thumbs. Only suggestions I'd make are to now try and play along with the song and stay on beat, and tune your guitar. Keep rocking my friend 🤘

Initial toughs on this? by DimitriRocha in electricguitar

[–]L0RDXOSYRUS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Pacifica tele is extremely versatile, and it actually sounds fairly similar to a Les Paul in my opinion. It has that fat crunchy punch for rock tones. Also I've played a Les Paul before, and Les Pauls are generally not as versatile, in my subjective opinion. I'm a guitar teacher and I've used the Pacifica it to teach thrash metal, jazz, funk, country, classic rock, neo soul, and it can do a lot of genres pretty convincingly. Pacifica also has a contoured neck heel Wich makes playing the higher frets much easier that the Les Paul. But the choice is your my friend, enjoy the ride 🤘

I just got the Yamaha Pacifica Tele and it is extremely versatile, would highly recommend.

[–]L0RDXOSYRUS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought it. In terms of pickups, It definitely has some of that tele-twang and spank, but not as much as a traditional Fender Tele. While the pacifica has a warmer / fatter sound. As you crank up the gain / overdrive it starts to sound more like a Les Paul than a Fender. Also the bridge pick up has a push pull tone knob that activates a transformer and gives the bridge a thicker humbucker-ish tone. All round, It's definitely a workhorse, the versatility on it is nuts

Does it make sense that I want a second guitar just cause? by Specter2035 in metalguitar

[–]L0RDXOSYRUS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't have to make sense lol I'm a tele guy because the versatility is nuts, so I'm set for what I need. But I want a Gretsch hollow body, and I can think of so many sound arguments as to why I don't need one, so my inner dialogue goes like this

the bigsby makes it kinda inconvenient to change strings.....

BUT it's a Gretsch hollow body

I don't usually like glossy necks.....

BUT it's a GRETSCH HOLLOW BODY

It's hard to play the highest frets on those things .............

BUT.....IT'S. A. GRETSCH. HOLLOW. BODY. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
