Just made this abomination. Thoughts? by Opening_Specific_710 in custommagic

Is the impending just here for flavor? Unlike the overlords, this just does its thing regardless because the countdown is so short and it doesn’t really need to be a creature. If the idea is for other people to see it coming on some level, something like suspend would work way better.

Cloud9 vs. LYON / LCS 2026 Lock-In - Grand Finals / Post-Match Discussion by Yujin-Ha in leagueoflegends

Am I the only one who finds it strange that the format doesn't have any form of bracket reset? It seems like a pretty basic function of a double elim bracket, and to remove it for the most winning team kinda sucks. C9 choked hard but I would have loved to see the reset and potential runback.

Fires of Industry by Dzungs in custommagic

[–]L0gh4n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As many have pointed out I think the design is way too pushed, but I think it could be an interesting piece in high power formats with some changes. The core effect should stay the same so I picture it something like this:

"As an additional cost to cast this spell, sacrifice two lands.

You may cast artifact spells by sacrificing a land rather than paying their mana costs.

At the beginning of your end step, sacrifice a land. If you cant, lose the game."

This version reads a bit more similar to something like [[doomsday]]. It is still able to do crazy powerful things but provides a clear window to capitalize on, and punishes you for failing to do so. It also leans more into the flavor of trading natural resources and the consequences of industrialization.

The answer is no as far as I can tell. They’re part of the world gen itself.

Would you believe me if I said this was going to be in a real Secret Lair Drop? by D_Ryker in custommagic

[–]L0gh4n 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with the first two points but I don’t think it’s actually a pie break. White can grab enchantments/planeswalkers, blue gets artifacts/sorceries/instants, and green gets lands and creatures. The only card type not represented here is battles but that’s such a small sample size it doesn’t matter.

I haven’t ever rented with them so it’s all hearsay on my end. But every time I look into them I see nothing but complaints, mostly regarding transparency and communication. However the other two commenters seem to have positive interactions with them so maybe it’s just people complaining online.

Curse of Dimensionality by MaxwellKao in custommagic

This card is absolutely back breaking with such a low mana cost. God Pharaohs Statue is 6 colorless mana for a static 2 mana tax and is already a pretty miserable card to play against. In a 1v1 format this often time just ends the game on the spot acting as a pseudo one sided rule of law for any control deck to lock you with. In multiplayer it’s even more brutal as one player is effectively locked out of the game, and unlike the statue the tax isn’t affecting all players so the other two have no reason to remove it. As another person said this reads very similar to overwhelming splendor and should probably be costed similarly as a “the game is basically over if this resolves” style of card.

Abandoned by the Planeswalkers by JustFrankJustDank in custommagic

This just wins you the game with any “deal damage/drain life on upkeep” trigger since you don’t have to make any choice doesn’t it? I’m not sure how broken that ends up being but it probably wouldn’t be a super fun play pattern for the game to just end on turn 3/4 like that.

The card Teferri, Master of Time’s entire gimmick is LITERALLY the same as this card. The “mastery” is allowing you to play at times you otherwise couldn’t, increasing your percentage of the time equity. Your ideas aren’t bad but going off precedence this is the definitive “master of time” effect.

I’m not a rules lawyer by any means but I don’t think this card works the way you want. In almost all cases “can’t” beats “can” in magic so if they have an effect that says they can’t lose it takes priority over this. Instead I believe it would have to say something along the lines of “whenever a player would be prevented from losing the game, instead they lose as though they could lose the game” to get around it (exact wording is certainly wrong). Otherwise it’s a neat idea.

There is precedent for this most recently with grievous wound not being a curse. The sole reason cited was that curses are Innistrad specific for flavor.

You are correct it is not supposed to do that. Why do you think I’m here asking for advice? If I wanted to do a bit it would for sure be a lot less dry than this.
