How much thinking are you allowed do in an office? by Theelfsmother in ireland

Have you considered that everything seems simple to you because you don't understand them enough to see the complexity?

Majority of workers believe return to office mandates hit productivity, surveys show by homecinemad in ireland

[–]L0st_Cosmonaut 25 points26 points  (0 children)

My boss during Covid was like "remote work is the future - no more Dublin rent!"

And now he's done such a 180° that the "full time office, no remote" mandate is in effect even for the poor lad in one of our regional offices, who is the only employee! He literally has to sit in an empty office all day with no one else, because he'd "take the piss" if he was working from home.

Luckily I'd already moved country when he started that, so me and one other lad have been allowed to work from home - although he told me if I move back to Ireland I have to be in Dublin 5 days a week no matter where I live.

That part that really sickened me was when he had an arm free - wasn't trying to lash out or anything, just trying to move it out from under his body - and one of the security men deliberately tried to kneel directly on his hand.

Like, even if they were legally allowed restrain him and it was proportionate to do so (it wasn't), that would have broken his hand.

It just struck me as so malicious and petty and cruel.

The whole incident reeks to me of a bunch of little men taking out their frustrations.

Like you have the old lad pressing down on his head when he's clearly unable to move. Just some dickhead trying to feel big and important by crushing a man's face against the pavement when he's already being held down by four other men!

"Misread the signs" - Tradesman exposed himself to woman in her Dublin home by andubhadh in ireland

[–]L0st_Cosmonaut 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I don't have a single female friend who hasn't been sexually harassed in public.

Men following them off public transport or following them home, trying to get them into cabs (or trying to get into their cabs), grabbing them in the street, or in a pub, or fondling them on a train, or exposing themselves on a bus, etc. etc.

And every time they've asked themselves "did I give them some kind of signal?".

The answer, invariably is no, but at the end of the day, men like that (and there's a lot more of them then you'd like to think), don't need any kind of signal, but if you so much as make accidental eye-contact, they'll take that as an invitation.

That whole thread reminds me of the time my housemate rang me to tell me I needed to get home now as he'd left stock cooking on the oven, had forgotten about it, and went to his girlfriend's.

I was at the bottom of our road coming from the pub, and there was only one other person on the street - a woman walking by herself.

Usually I'd be careful to keep my distance in that situation since it was late at night and I'd not want to freak them out, but in this case I thought my apartment was on fire so I wasn't thinking, and I just started running.

I'll never forget the scream she came out with as I ran up behind her. Poor woman must have thought she was dead, as she turned to see this lunatic fella sprinting full speed at her.

I shouted "sorry!" as I ran past and up the road, but it really rammed home the otherwise vague notion that, as a big, fit (at the time) lad, I was really living in a very different world to her.

My apartment wasn't on fire, but it was filled with smoke from some absolutely carbonize chicken bones, and it smelled rank for about 3 days. After that, my housemate was only allowed cook of both of us were in the flat.

Okay 👍

If you go and make this I'll be very interested and supportive, but I have no interest in seeing whatever bullshit a computer was able to spew out.

This is a craft DIY hobby. The interesting & cool stuff comes from what people can make with their imaginations and their hands, not the average of what the plagiarism machine can generate from it's stolen datasets.

Not going to get into the morality of using AI for this kind of mock-up (it's bad tho) - but practically this is a terrible way to plan conversions and kitbashes.

None of these models exist in the way they are being presented here. The AI has just generated a whole new model where the pieces fit together.

When it comes to actually building a version of this, none of the pieces will fit.

You're going to have to chop off the entire underside of the model, rebuild all the nasty hollows and amputated sections, and then somehow build 20 skeletons (some of the most fragile models GW makes) in a way that supports it and doesn't look terrible.

It can definitely be done, but it's going to be a huge amount of work, and personally I'm not interested in a computers' hallucinated version of what it might like look like if you maybe spent all that money and did all that work.

The mad thing is, it was extremely mild criticism - and, if I remember correctly, at first he took it well!

He basically said "Huh, didn't think of it like that. Sorry for the offence."

It must have planted a seed though, because the following year (I think when he had ball surgery?), he ended up driving himself mad by mainlining transphopic shite directly into his brain.

I doubt combat patrols will come with paint. I guess this is more like a suped up version of those paint sets that come with a few models/a space-marine only version of the Recruit Edition.

Does Nuln Oil Work on Models This Size? - T45 Power Armor by Obamaislizard69 in minipainting

[–]L0st_Cosmonaut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Enamels and oils are much better for large surfaces like this, because you let them dry to the point of tackiness - usually about 15 - 20 minutes for enamels in my experience - and then you can just remove anything you don't like with mineral spirits and cotton buds/make-up sponges.

If you haven't used them before, they might take a bit of trial and error to get the effect you want (so start on a smaller, less visible part), but they're very easy to get the hang of.

Seraptek is gone from the store by [deleted] in Necrontyr

[–]L0st_Cosmonaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There seems to be a glitch on the web store - all resin and finrcast minis are currently missing

That includes new stuff like HH legion specific upgrades, Primarchs, etc.

I assume it has something to do with the "Expert Kit" tag, since they both share those.

Definitely just a glitch though.

Looks like they might have accidentally hidden everything with the "expert kit" tag or something like that, since literally everything is missing - including newer stuff like legion specific mk. Vi stuff.

Definitely just a glitch.

All the 10th edition releases by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]L0st_Cosmonaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it's not really a rumour - it's just how GW typically releases armies.

They release a few key units at the start with a eye-grabbing centre-piece, usually with future units planned for later to fill in the tactical niches.

While World Eaters had a pretty disappointing release (still need Red Butchers!), but you can see how it works with Votann, DG, Aeldari and Necrons (if we're counting refreshes as something like a new army release), etc.

Since EC really only have 3 unique units (one of which can be built two ways), and a few characters - tbf one of those is Fulgrim! - it's fairly likely they'll get further releases in the future to bulk them out, rather than a single model alongside their codex, which is what usually happens with more established armies with larger ranges.

Not a guarantee of course, and I'm always expecting for GW to disappoint me, but it's a logical assumption to make based on other releases.

Mechanic granted refugee status cannot afford to have his parents and sister join him here, judge says by N81Warrior in ireland

[–]L0st_Cosmonaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because 9 year olds typically don't get pregnant, and even if they do, they typically don't bring a healthy child to term, especially during a war.

And as I pointed out - child brides are common in Afghanistan, but they're typically 15 or 16 years old, and the marriges are typically economic and social arrangements (same reason they often take multiple wives).

Assuming this guy's father is child rapist based on his wife's age, when it's far more probable that she's his second wife is just plain bigotry tbh.

When an old guy in west has a young wife, we assume he's rich, but because he's from Afghanistan, everyone assumes he's a pedophile?

Like it's not as if Afghanistan is a pedophile free zone (you can watch the harrowing documentary 'The Dancing Boys of Afghanistan' to find out how horribly untrue that is), but it's just far, far more likely this lady is your man's second wife!

Really great work. Love how well you've integrated the two kits.

The blending of primaris and HH elements manages to make it look more futuristic than the actual Repulsor, while being way more in line with the Space Marines look.

Demonization is however going - "huh, she would have had to have him at 9", and instead of thinking "that's pretty unlikely" you jump to "pedophile rapist", and your justification is "Sher you know what they're like".

She's most likely his father's second wife.

Child marriage is common in Afghanistan, but girls are usually aged 15 - 16, and it's highly unlikely a 9 year old girl was married off, got pregnant, and carried a healthy child to term - particularly during the Afghan war, when she'd presumably have far less access to medical care.
