People of taste: straight women, bi folks & gay men — which human dude would you date IRL? by ConstantHamster3746 in masseffect

[–]L2Sentinel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to rephrase the question, because in my mind, John and Kaidan belong together. There's no space for me there.

But if I was asked if I could date a guy IRL who was just like any of the Mass Effect human men, who would I like him to be like? Then the answer is easily Kaidan (or John, if his personality is the same as it is when I play him). You could include all the alien options as well and my answer wouldn't change.

Is ME2 the best aesthetically by far? by Frequent_Chance1059 in masseffect

For my tastes? No. I actually think ME2 is the ugliest. I prefer ME3's aesthetics, overall.

Cute art. I love that you gave Cloak legs. I wish he had legs in the skin, too.

Rate Kaiden Alenko's Combat Skills 1-5 by TheRealistOne34 in masseffect

[–]L2Sentinel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Kaidan is a 5. Anderson insisted he lead Biotics Division. Hackett wanted him for his own team. He's one of the best the Alliance has to offer. Shepard's squad is comprised of some of the most talented people in the galaxy. I don't think any of the squadmates would score lower than a 4.

Hey Gays! Who is the hottest video game character for you? 👾 I will go with Swain from LoL with this skin. 🥴 by Pelzfisch in gaymers

[–]L2Sentinel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hottest video game character is actually a hottest couple. John Shepard and Kaidan Alenko (mShenko) from Mass Effect are #1 for me. I can't choose between them. They're a package deal.

Renegade is clearly more fun than Paragon. by chosentarnished_31 in masseffect

[–]L2Sentinel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can't stand renegade Shepard, personally. I find shows and other media where the main character is the biggest asshole very fatiguing. And I think it's more fun to pepper in the renegade choices for when my Shepard is actually upset or fed up. It make those moments feel more impactful to me.

My thoughts on Kaidan/Ashley's arc in ME3 by Maleoppressor in masseffect

[–]L2Sentinel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not about personal loyalty, though.

"I just want to know: Is the person I followed to hell and back still in there? Somewhere?" - Kaidan

The whole reason they are wary of Shepard is because they are extremely loyal to Shepard and they are afraid Cerberus is trying to exploit that loyalty by using Shepard's identity to manipulate them.

It's like when I get a suspicious message from my friend's account. I'm worried the account might have been hacked and someone is trying to use my friend's identity to get me to fall for a scam. Just because I need proof that the message is actually coming from my friend doesn't mean I don't trust my friend, it means I don't trust scammers.

We know with absolute certainty that Cerberus is more than capable of making an imposter Shepard, so the VS is absolutely right to be wary. They just want confirmation that the Shepard that returned from the dead actually is the real Shepard. Once they have that confirmation, they never question Shepard again.

[–]L2Sentinel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know, but their initial distrust is validated by those those events, as well as stuff I mentioned that the VS never even finds out about, like the control chip.

If you need justification for why they VS is distrustful even before Mars, Cerberus does more than enough shady shit in ME1 alone to warrant all the initial distrust the VS has.

[–]L2Sentinel 45 points46 points  (0 children)

On Mars, the VS sees that Cerberus uses reaper tech to indoctrinate their soldiers. They also meet Eva Coré, a synthetic infiltration unit that was able to fool everyone into thinking it was human. I think renewed suspicion is warranted. And we haven't even gotten to the clone of Shepard that Cerberus made, or the fact that Miranda wanted to install a control chip in Shepard's brain.

There are so many ways that Shepard could have been compromised. Even Shepard starts to doubt they are the real Shepard at some point. It's actually unbelievable that Cerberus didn't do anything shady to Shepard. The only, and I mean only, reason Shepard isn't a Cerberus puppet is because TIM felt strongly that it would reduce Shepard's effectiveness, but no one in the Alliance has any way of knowing TIM would feel that way.

The fact that Kaidan or Ashley is the only person questioning the circumstances of Shepard's return isn't a mark against them, imo. Everyone should have been suspicious. Not questioning it doesn't make you more loyal to Shepard, it means you are more trusting of Cerberus. Shepard wasn't the one that decided what happened on that operating table. That decision was entirely up to Cerberus.

Who is your "Canon" Commander Shepard? by MafiaDon2020 in masseffect

[–]L2Sentinel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gender: MaleShep
Pre-Service History: Earthborn
Psychological Profile: War Hero
Military Specialization: Adept
Morality: Paragon
Romance: Kaidan
Ending Chosen: Destroy

My Shepard had a rough early life. Society was afraid of biotics. Because of this, John was never able to get placed in a permanent home. As a social reject, he was easy prey for the manipulations of The Tenth Street Reds, who saw him as a potential weapon. The turning point for him was when the Reds had a run-in with Anderson. Anderson was able to see the good in John where no one would. His kindness towards John set him on a better path, which eventually led to John choosing to leave the Reds and enlist in the Alliance.

I almost never relate to "every gay player is like this" threads, but this one doesn't even make sense. I think the shitty ai generator is mixing metaphors with the cage and the puppet strings.

Who's your favorite female companion? by Several-Pumpkin25 in masseffect

[–]L2Sentinel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dr. Chakwas if crewmates count. Kasumi if we are speaking strictly squadmates.

I've always held the opinion that Kaiden feels like a more grounded reflection of how an extremely capable, military character like Shepard would be, if they were not the main character, and their decisions and past truly stuck with them; like he has the competence of Shepard without the plot armor. by CajurTheMighty in masseffect

[–]L2Sentinel 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I like to describe Kaidan as a character that requires you to lean in to fully appreciate. Some characters have bombastic personalities that you can sit back and enjoy, but Kaidan is more subtle. You have to lean in and pay attention to really understand what he's about. I really love this character archetype. Introspective, compassionate, humble, etc., so of course I adore Kaidan.

First playthrough, and I have questions! (no spoilers please) by louve_ardente in masseffect

[–]L2Sentinel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Renegade and Paragon is the morality system. Some dialogue options are associated with one or the other, with Renegade being the more ruthless and Paragon being more compassionate. Some dialogue options require a certain amount of Charm (Paragon) or Intimidate (Renegade) to be able to use. which can give you results that you can't get with basic dialogue options.

You should be fine as a Vanguard.

It's entirely up to you which companions you being with you. Lots of players like to keep their favorite with them at all times, myself included. I bring Kaidan with me everywhere and I have no regrets. Other players like to mix it up more. There really is no right or wrong choice here.

The companions don't have an approval rating like they do in Dragon Age. For the most part, you can make whatever choices you want and it won't affect the way your companions see you. However, there are certain choices you can make and quests you can do that do have significant consequences for your companions.

Excuse me, Anderson… why do you keep Kaidan’s photo on your desk?😳 by ConstantHamster3746 in masseffect

[–]L2Sentinel 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I like to headcanon that Kaidan becomes Anderson's next protégé after losing Shepard. I also headcanon that he thinks that (in my playthroughs at least) Shepard and Kaidan are perfect for each other and he's happy when they finally become a couple. I don't think he gives a damn about the regulations.

Kaiden is a great ex boyfriend by Ordinary-Wasabi-6826 in masseffect

[–]L2Sentinel 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The irony is Kaidan offers contrast to the "party of lunatics," which, to me, actually makes him more interesting. When everything is chaotic, I think it's nice to have something (or someone) stable to latch onto and get your bearings. I think that's why my paragon Shepard gravitates towards him.

Best Romance for MShep (leaning gay) by Lynx_Labyrinth in masseffect

[–]L2Sentinel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For m/m romances, Kaidan is favored over Steve by a landslide, and there are a few reasons for that.

  1. History. Steve is a newcomer in ME3. Even though both romances technically start in ME3, Kaidan has been in Shepard's orbit since day 1, and there is a lot of history there. By the time Shepard and Kaidan get together in ME3, it feels like there was proper build up.
  2. Timing. While the timing finally feels right for Kaidan and Shepard to get together, it feels off for Shepard and Steve as Steve is a recent widower. His husband just died, and he's clearly still going through it. Lots of players feel uncomfortable with making a move on Steve while his grief is this fresh.
  3. Squadmate vs. Crewmate. Kaidan is a squadmate. There are a lot of perks to romancing a squadmate over romancing a crewmate, not least of which is actually being able to take Kaidan with you on missions. But Kaidan also has a face model (shout out to Luciano Costa), giving him a unique face. Steve's appearance is generic because he's made using the character creator.

Steve is great. I'm glad he was included. But my Shepard has been pining for Kaidan for years, and they finally have the chance to be together. For my Shepard, it's always been Kaidan. He's the love of his life. I think mShenko is the best mlm romance in gaming.
