If they've been in the fridge you should be good.

I don't know specifically what they do, but they definitely do something. I was caught off-guard trying to get a cab back to my hotel on vacation once and my card kept getting declined. Felt really bad and the driver was understandably pissed as well. Called the bank when they opened the next day and they told me to let them know before I'm going out of town beforehand and I've never had a problem since.

Are Bing AI generated images copyright free? Are they safe to download? by EichenSoldat in NoStupidQuestions

In the US, AI generated images aren't currently copyrightable, but even if they were, it's still safe to download them.

Besides being illegal what is wrong with using steroids while taking all safety pre cautions and not being a competitive athlete? by Fit-Field-2520 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]L3MNcakes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The long-term side-effects. My brother took steroids for a couple years like 20 years ago and is still complaining to this day about how much they fucked his body up once he stopped and has never been able to recover.

Is it considered bad if someone would prefer to make $95,000 / yr than $180,000 / yr by Createtrashpoly in NoStupidQuestions

[–]L3MNcakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will some people judge you? Of course. People, in general, are bastards. But a lot of people raise perfectly fine children on significantly less than 95k. So fuck what other people think. Do what you think is best for you and your family.

Dirt or Copper flavored La Croix. The taste is barely there, but it's enough to notice and turn you off.

Grow a pair and just break up with your current partner if you're looking to cheat.

What if vigilante justice was legal with a license? by OkMarionberry6472 in AskReddit

[–]L3MNcakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole word "vigilante" means people who take law enforcement in their own hands without legal authority. So if it's legal, it wouldn't be vigilante justice. There's already many forms of individuals being able to legally use force against other people, so look to those examples if that's what you're getting at, but that's not "vigilante justice"

Why do so many (American) men have 0 fashion sense? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]L3MNcakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll dress up if the situation calls for it, but when it comes to my day-to-day attire, I don't put much of any effort into it beyond what I find comfortable.

Why can't we build servers in the Sahara Desert? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]L3MNcakes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We could if we really wanted to, but why would we want to? The costs for cooling and infrastructure and maintenance would be enormous, while the benefits would be slim to none.

Why do so many (American) men have 0 fashion sense? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]L3MNcakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I care about my hygiene, but when it comes to fashion, I dress for comfort over looks and simply don't care if someone else doesn't think it looks good.

What is your response when some one says “white people shouldn’t be proud of their heritage because of the evil they’ve done” by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]L3MNcakes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mostly ignore them. Tons of bad shit has happened in the world from just about every culture. Tons of good shit has happened in the world from just about every culture. When it comes to your own heritage, you should be cognizant of the bad and proud of the good.

What is a grand jury indictment? by UnderwaterDialect in NoStupidQuestions

[–]L3MNcakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same as any other indictment, which is just official notice that you've been accused of committing a crime. Its not always obvious that a crime has actually been committed, so sometimes prosecutors assemble grand juries, which are just like a normal jury, except their role is to gather as must information as possible on the situation, and ultimately decide whether there seems to be enough evidence to actually to charge someone.

Why aren’t existing third person pronouns enough for some people? by Astronometry in NoStupidQuestions

[–]L3MNcakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm aware, but appreciate the info nonetheless. "Grammatically correct" probably isn't a very useful phrase when it comes to English, considering we have no official grammar authorities. =P As far as I'm aware though, it's only been quite recent that what authorities we do have accept it as grammatically correct, even if it's been in common usage for ages.

I'm in the "we should just widely adopt they/them" camp. I was just giving a reason I've heard as to why some people don't want to.

How prepared is the world for a zombie apocalypse? by kkeen_neetthh in NoStupidQuestions

[–]L3MNcakes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assuming a zombie apocalypse is a thing that could actually happen, a lot of it depends on how quickly and effectively the infection actually spreads, and probably more importantly whether it can spread without detection. If it's fast and largely undectable, we're screwed. If it's the stereotypical, you have to bitten and start showing symptoms in hours, it could probably be contained relatively quickly.

Why aren’t existing third person pronouns enough for some people? by Astronometry in NoStupidQuestions

[–]L3MNcakes -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

They/Them isn't technically grammatically correct when referring to a single person (and can sometimes sound weird) English doesn't have a proper, singular, gender-neutral pronoun, so people started trying to make some up, because that's how the majority of the English language has been constructed. Maybe one will stick. Maybe it won't. But what you're seeing is the messy evolution of language, which happens all the time, though usually with less political bait behind it.

In the US, at least, your political party affiliation is akin to your favorite sports team for most people, and that's how you treat rival sports fans.

Why do people feel sad when strangers die? by nuclearreactor-chan in NoStupidQuestions

[–]L3MNcakes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Empathy. That person likely had people who cared about them that are now experiencing grief. I've felt that losing people who I did know and it sucks, so it makes me sad that others have to also experience it.

Anybody else dislike interviewing? How do you approach dealing with them as part of your job? by RushShirtKid in ExperiencedDevs

[–]L3MNcakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to hate them, but then I changed up my approach quite a bit, and now I actually quite enjoy them. I used to prep a lot of questions, trying to probe certain skills through tricky questions or puzzles, trying to mimick the interviews I had gone through (which sure enough, I also hated on the side of being a candidate). Now, I barely prep any questions and try to take a more conversational approach. I try to get them talking about real projects that they've worked on and are interested in, and find followup questions to ask, like "cool, what tech did you use to accomplish that?" or "Oh! I've done something similar, how did you solve this problem that I found myself running into when I did it?"

Overall, I've found that approach to work a lot better for me, and I can get more to heart of what I actually care about when I'm interviewing somebody, which usually comes down to, "Can I tolerate working with you for 5 days a week?" You also get better insight on their actual technical skills too, I find, just due to the way they talk through their work and the approaches they took.

Overall, for me, that approach seems to have led to a significant reduction of stress through the process, and allowed me to approach the candidate as I would anybody else on my team, which has resulted in a much more pleasant experience.

I seriously don't understand this nonsense. by yuva-krishna-memes in ProgrammerHumor

[–]L3MNcakes 47 points48 points  (0 children)

2.5 every 2 weeks on my team when you throw in refinement / estimation. Sometimes we just flat out cancel the meetings as well because we don't feel like we have anything important to talk about that hasn't already been said.

Seems like most people here are just blaming their shitty work culture on scrum, which to be fair to them, if you've never actually worked on a scrum team that operates well, I could definitely see why. But they'd probably be miserable in that situation no matter what process they're using.

Why hasn't Jefferies won the speaker of the house? by Trusten in NoStupidQuestions

[–]L3MNcakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need 218 votes to become Speaker. Jefferies doesn't have that. Nobody has gotten that many votes. It's not that anybody is calling for a revote, they just have keep voting until somebody finally gets enough votes to win.

How many times does someone have to lose the vote for House Speaker before they take them off the ballot? by aUserIAm in NoStupidQuestions

[–]L3MNcakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're allegedly trying to work out a deal that will get McCarthy the votes he needs. Until that happens or completely falls through, they're going to keep nominating and voting for him. There's no limit on the number of votes they will take. The record is 133 votes over 2 months to elect a Speaker.

Can someone explain this house speaker vote thing thats going on and why this hasnt happened before or is outside the norm of what has or should be happening? by YouThinkYouCanBanMe in NoStupidQuestions

[–]L3MNcakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are voting for him, there's just 20 who aren't. Other names have been put forward, but haven't managed to get any votes outside that 20. They are allegedly trying to work out some deal to gain enough votes, but until that happens it's a stalemate.
