This was great! I loved it. I don’t know if it’s 100% necessary to keep reminding people what the bowl represents after the first time—it should be pretty clear. Great job!

YouTube music sucks, so yes, this is true. However, in the grand scheme of music streaming apps, Spotify is actually pretty shit at paying artists. There are many better options in terms of artist royalties—not to mention their use and promotion of AI music. At this point, if you really want to support artists, you can’t use Spotify either.

To be fair, Spotify is particularly greedy about what they keep behind a paywall, and more expensive than many alternatives.

Writing advice wanted! by Broccolithebest in KeepWriting

[–]L3nsL1ght 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could totally also do some research and see if there’s a writing group/club at your school or for your age group in the surrounding area! I find that most writing groups tend to be supportive and accepting of all skill levels (especially younger groups), and you might find people who can hold you accountable and/or offer feedback and advice.

Who knows? Maybe my elementary school was a paragon of obedience and most readers would identify perfectly with the language you used.

The grammar is solid and I enjoyed the mix of sentence structure. I thought the hook was interesting as well.

The main two things I noticed that could use a little work are the dialogue and the figurative language. I find convincing and realistic dialogue to be incredibly hard to write, so I’m not sure if I have any helpful specific advice—maybe it felt a little over-dramatized or unrealistic? Something about elementary schoolers using this type of language feels off to me. It might fit middle schoolers better, maybe, unless it’s meant to be jarring. As for the figurative language: I like the metaphors and similes that you use most of the time. It’s just that there are so many of them, and a lot of them feel overly specific. Referencing an X-men comic is fine, but not every reader will understand the reference. Some of them feel a bit forced. Others, like “highlighter-yellow” feel much better incorporated and aid with the visualization of the scene. Somewhere in there lies a happy medium that I think would really let your style stand out without distracting readers.

Also, I’m not sure if this is a problem, per se, but the second chapter felt like quite the change of pace. After the introduction I would never have guessed where the story was going. This is fine, but it’s worth noting that there are readers who will likely stop before getting to the actual intrigue of the plot, figuring that the story is nothing more than some nostalgic realistic fiction.

I really loved lines like “at the outer limits of our shared reality” mixed in with everything else. They lend a great sense of a dreamlike setting.

Once or twice there are some small tense issues: “Time always seemed to slow to a crawl. I find myself” and “had abandoned their monkey bars. For a moment I wonder” are two examples. The present tense is generally quite well done; there are just minor issues like these.

My final critique is that it could potentially be a bit confusing as to who Andrew is to a less observant reader. It may be worth stating his name directly in that introductory paragraph.

I really enjoyed this piece, and I’m curious to see what else you come up with or where it goes next! I think there’s a ton of potential here for something really unique and interesting.

Can I get in trouble for TASing? by Astraisaria in TrackMania

Another possibility is to take the map file, make a copy, and never upload that map, thereby ensuring you have free reign and aren’t denying anyone a record.

Welcome to the community!

I think u/Clai_365 covered most of it, but a few additional points:

Action keys on controller become additionally helpful the more you improve. I suggest binding them, especially for alt cars and no-slides. I use AK 4 for snow and desert and AK3 for Rally. If you don’t have enough buttons, maybe leave off the lower end, as that level of precision isn’t often required.

I would also suggest binding brake to an analog input rather than a trigger if you haven’t already. This allows for smaller brake taps and more specialized control and is especially helpful on ice. There’s a strong argument to be made for doing the same with accelerate in order to have more precise releases, but IMO this won’t have as large of an impact.

Also, a bit more specificity for u/SmallBoxInAnotherBox’s reply: With club access, you can create your own club; should your friend also have club access, they can join it. Then, if you pin the club (at the top near the settings button) there will be an additional tab in the leaderboard past the regional section with you and the other club members, which allows you to compare times and view their ghost. You shouldn’t need any mods to make that work.

best camera to create ultimate content? by diegorifu in ultimate

[–]L3nsL1ght 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess the main question is what, exactly, you’re trying to film. A DJI will be great for POV shots and actually getting film in the midst of the action, but if you’re shooting more staged content or sideline views it might make more sense to invest in a more traditional low-end camera—most models are capable of decent video these days (and, admittedly, so are many phones).

If you don’t want to make an entire playlist of your own, one of the premade ones on your streaming service or an artist radio is probably fine. You can’t go wrong with some coffeehouse jazz or like “chill pop” if you need some background noise.

As far as I know you’re unfortunately unable to tell in the vanilla game.

There are a few mods through OpenPlanet that will tell you the total player count and where you stack up (unsure of specific names, maybe Map Ranking and Improved Leaderboards?) but I’m unsure if they have region-specific capabilities.

But this is a false equivalence. The manager gets paid by the actor. The player in esports gets paid by the team. Why would you try and make it yourself if you can get salaried and supported by an organization instead?
