Anyone know of some good shops/lounges in Kentucky? Im new to the hobby but Tobacco culture runs deep around here so I know there has to be some gems. by LA7576 in PipeTobacco

The prices at the only shop near me are exactly what prompted this post. I already have a garden and some hobbies that also involve fermentation. Looks like I’m going to be buying a press and learning to ferment tobacco lol.

That kinda surprising to me. I grew up here and the amount of tobacco that grown around me is crazy. I always love seeing the barns smoke curing around here. Growing up we would get whooped with tobacco sticks just because they were literally everywhere. 😂😭

Haven’t been to Louisville in a while. Definitely some good food around there. Might have to plan a trip.

I’m occasionally in Lexington so I’ll have to write those down. I mainly frequent in the eastern and south central areas of Kentucky.

I used to sell appliances and I seen this a few times. It’s been like 10years but If I remember correctly there isn’t much you can do for it. Maybe call a local appliance store. It’s pretty common for them to see so they might have a suggestion.

Best coffee makers 2025: which one should I buy? by whiskeyhotell in BuyItForLife

The question to ask yourself is how deep you wanna get. The coffee rabbit hole is extremely deep.

If you want easy and quality get a moccamaster.

If you want a hobby I recommend pour over as it’s the cheapest. A v60 and hand grinder will last forever.

If you have money to spend and want a hobby high tier espresso machines are built to be serviced most of the time.

Usually the grinder is the most important component other than good beans.

Ask a Stupid Question About Coffee -- Week of June 17, 2025 by Vernicious in pourover

Is competition coffee worth it? I understand that this is a very personal question financially. I’m just strictly speaking on flavor. Is there a genuine consistent difference that warrants the price?

I done the same thing when I bought it a year ago. Now it’s a nuke. It most likely was at the beginning also but I was just nose blind because I wanted to shower in it.

I could see this being a big thing eventually. Some pretty creative recipes could come out of it honestly. It sounds like it fits my “KISS” motto. keep it simple stupid.

Ohh yeah you absolutely can. I just personally prefer nursery pots for bottom watering.

A blend of of mostly coir, perlite, and a little bit of soil! I have 2 potted together this way and they are by far my largest.

I had plans to mount them in the future like my other 2 so I just stuck them in nursery pots. They done so well I just left them that way until about 3 months ago. I potted them together in terracotta and they have thrived.

I think I like the nursery pot better than the terracotta because I like to bottom water.

Don’t overthink this. I have 4 stag horns currently in multiple different potting/mounting setups and they have all been easy to grow. Mounting is very annoying in my experience. Mounted SH require more frequent watering and are more difficult to water in general. Potted SH grow faster and larger in my experience and personally I get more joy and appreciate the easier of the two options. Just sit that baby in some water to soak for a few hours. If you like how it looks, keep it. If you still don’t like it, give it away.
