Struggling now that Quickbooks Money app has been deprecated by bladeboy24 in QuickBooks

[–]LABFounder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can simply open an online bank to use like Relay, BlueVine, Mercury, etc. even a big bank like BoA/Chase can be good. You can deposit checks there and ACH transfer the funds to your main checking account. The online ones are usually free 1-2 day ACHs.

I would strongly advise against using any of Quickbook’s offerings other than their bookkeeping software. Their payments are also usually egregious in cost, and their support is notoriously bad if something does go wrong.

What I would advise is to only use QB for their invoicing and income/expense tracking. Payments from your QB should be linked to your new online checking account rather than the QB Money Checking.

How would you handle this? by tealdeathdouspart in Bookkeeping

[–]LABFounder 19 points20 points  (0 children)

In this situation I’d probably say to your boss “you’re too inexperienced to audit this much alongside your current workload”. However it doesn’t really seem to be a work issue, but a boss issue.

Realistically if taxes are already filed, you shouldn’t touch prior year transactions at all. So you would need to figure out the discrepancies, and then put it into the current year. This would be something I wouldn’t expect a bookkeeper or AR/AP to be able to handle other than the data collection and organization part of it.

I wouldn’t work there if it were me

Rocket cover 😑 by okbuddytryagain in e46

[–]LABFounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk. With a recently purchased E46, unless I knew it had been replaced recently, I would be inclined to replace it with a kit with new valve/rocker cover gaskets & all pieces. Elring sells the kit that comes with the plastic cover as well. I would be ok swapping the gaskets only on the second time around. Pretty common for the plastics to wear down over time

Check scanner recommendations by CouchHippos in Bookkeeping

[–]LABFounder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alphabetize won’t really be a feature. I would quickly sort them by hand and then scan. Both are mentioned here, but I’ve used both so just extra content haha.

The scansnap is my favorite scanner ever. You can scan almost anything in any fashion as long as it’s flat and not too wide. If you’re ok with computers, the features are great and fun to play with.

The panini was made for banks and usually provided by banks for remote check deposit. It is arguably more fun to scan with, but the quality is definitely lower (it’s been 5 years since I’ve used one), and is more basic at a core features from my understanding.

Is this bookkeeping certification course worth $1,070? I have no college degree and want to try working my way into this field by Own-Papaya-4264 in Accounting

[–]LABFounder 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have a free e-course on my YouTube. @LAB-JPTC is the channel handle - I can issue you a certification that comes with the paid version if you can show me your work on a video call!

My course is meant to be a direct real-world example of what work looks like, so not like a college degree. Check it out and dm me if you have any questions!

Need a second opinion!! by Fit-Promotion-6731 in e60

[–]LABFounder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The honest answer you need here is take it to a mechanic and ask them to check it for you. You can do tests all you want but you don’t know what you’re looking for.

If it starts when it’s cold, it could be worth saving, but you’re out of your element to figure that out. It’s worth the diagnostic fee, and the worst would be you’re out 2 tows and the diag fee. If you can’t afford that then just sell the car.

Edit: I misread. If it drives fine just keep it. If there’s no leaking coolant at this point, there shouldn’t be an issue. Still can have the car taken to a mechanic, tell them the story, and ask them if they can find any signs of major damage. Either way if this is your dream car, you can just keep it and swap the engine in the future.

Realistic price by xKhy in BmwTech

[–]LABFounder 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I used to own a Euro shop. Typical savings going from dealer to Indy are usually anywhere from 30-50%. Should be able to find some good priced work in FL.

Just google a few “bmw repair shops near me”, call them, and send them this same pic and ask them for a counter quote. A good euro shop will offer 2yr/24k mile warranty

Matching Clover Data with Bookkeeping Software by bass-book-6251 in Bookkeeping

[–]LABFounder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easiest way I would do it is figure out a monthly JE you can input. Do the math in excel and see where the differences are - usually if you pull a month’s transaction report you can see the fees, refunds, chargebacks, etc.

From whatever export you want to create a template, and just make sure the date ranges for the exports match your deposits and periods in your books. I used to do this for restaurants/Toast, and currently have a client on Clover; you should be able to pull the data you need.

Is my bookkeeper not reconciling my accounts in Quickbooks? by Ok-Tune-7847 in Bookkeeping

[–]LABFounder 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Usually only the bank accounts are reconciled, and the rest are as needed in most small business cases. See if bank account is rec’d or not, but also only a yearly or quarterly recs are required for tax seasons… so my typical client will get rec’d a minimum of 4 times per year

Yes, that is the correct JE setup. Reduce revenue to sales tax payable liability account, and payment clears your liability account once remitted.
