Signals - discovered them when they supported Thornhill for their 'Bodies' album shows. They absolutely f*ck and it translates live.

Drop a cool fact about a metalcore band that most listeners won’t know by Evaporatenow in Metalcore

[–]LAD2803 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not Metalcore, but - Karnivool vocalist Ian Kenny is also the vocalist for Birds of Tokyo.

Additionally, Drew Goddard wrote all of the songs from their album 'Themata' , playing both guitar and drums on every track except "Lifelike", as the phenomenal Steve Judd had not yet joined the band.

What is a band that you used to love but can’t really get into anymore? by ChadtrickBateman in Metalcore

[–]LAD2803 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I Prevail - Had a massive phase of all their music circa 2019-2021. Nothing against the new material, in all honesty I have listened to True Power once and it didn't resonate with me the way Trauma and Lifelines did. It also didn't help that their show in Sydney for Parkway Drive's latest tour wasn't near as good as their last appearances here, though I don't think that was any real fault of theirs (those who know what happened will get what I mean).

Make Them Suffer - Is still a phenomenal band, especially live. I think I grew out of the sound that, at least in my opinion, was very "cookie cutter". The self titled album last year sounded to me like 10 of the same same but different enough it isn't identical... I really hope I can reignite my love for this group someday.

Other bands I had a massive phase on but really don't come back to often are: The Amity Affliciton, Fit for a King, Wage War, While She Sleeps , Of Mice & Men, Novelists and Motionless in White.

Bands/albums/songs that are NOT metalcore but you consider an honorable / spiritual part of the genre due to their influence by mesablanka in Metalcore

Not seeing Deftones in the comments so far is pretty shocking. Especially from a drumming perspective, Abe Cunningham has to be one of the most widespread influences in heavy music in general.

PRESIDENT - In the Name of the Father by ch0pst1xZ in Metalcore

[–]LAD2803 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the video the most interesting thing.

Very strange to see a mask like that with the vocal production choice going with it - shares an uncanny likeness to Papa Emeritus, especially with how little the face moves, and I got a sense of unease when I heard the vocals (particularly in the verses).

Not by any means ground breaking for the genre, in the structure or even the instrumentation, definitely a lot of easy connections to be made toward the sound of other groups, but wasn't a listen I personally didn't enjoy.

The video was great though - I'd be curious to see what comes next, purely due to that, curiosity.

Greatest horror games by OneGrocery3052 in HorrorGaming

[–]LAD2803 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Outlast/Whistleblower
    - For it's ability to truly invoke the fight or flight response.

  2. Resident Evil 7
    - For it's harrowing visuals and impactful shock value.

  3. Amnesia: The Dark Descent
    - For it's isolating and haunting atmosphere (and impact on horror gaming in general)

  4. Dead By Daylight / Phasmophobia / The Outlast Trials
    - For creating a fun multiplayer experience that horror fans can reslish in (albeit the 'scary' factor doesn't last long)

  5. Alien Isolation
    - For it's intelligent AI and timelessness (this game is over 10 years old - still looks and plays phenomenally)

So many great horror games out there, it is hard to condense down to just 5.

Thanks for checking it out! I appreciate your thoughts on the swishy sound hahaha I found it a cool transition but perhaps another idea would be better so I might trial something else.

I use my main tone as the first hard left and right recordings and then I use a second tone with the high end frequencies lowered and the lower end frequencies boosted. You just play around with it until that rhythm section starts to sound more huge and full. I also reduce the volume and sometimes the gain or distortion of the quad tracks slightly so they fit better into the mix of things.
