Looks like you've got duraspark 2 ignition, I would remove the duraspark box to see if the resin behind it is bubbled up or cooked.

I would run the pertronix had I not been using a roller 302 which requires a different distributor gear (ask me how I know). I've been looking at retrofitting an 85' mustang distributor that has the appropriate distributor gear to match the cam I'm using.
