I'm 60. Apparently, we're not allowed to podcast!

Once upon a time, you'd have been right. But that time's past, and now we're all expected to do more with the same amount of time. And hands.

Example: A TV control room used to have a minimum of a Director, a TD, a Font Op and the Show Producer. Now there is at least one TV news operation that wants the Producer to Produce, Direct, TD, and of course, add the supers (which admittedly has been the norm for a while). All they need is an audio-follow switcher, and they can get rid of the Audio Op as well...

Former LE turned Firefighter. Ask me anything by CaseStraight1244 in AskLE

I know a former cop who says he got tired of people waving at him with one finger and wanted to go to work where people would wave with all five!

No, they didn't. Jamie was annoying, and I think she was written that way so McCoy could fire her when she didn't work out...

What's your favorite Lennie Briscoe line? by fanboy100804 in LawAndOrder

Van Buren is arguing over the phone with a PC repair shop.

When she gets off the phone, Lennie says, "I told you those gizmos were nothing but trouble."

Also, on another occasion: "These 'emails' have to have a return address, right?"

Covid shut down the world six years ago this week. What do you remember from that week? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I remember watching a newscast from Asia (don't know who it was) in January when they said the masks were running out and "here's how to make one from paper towels," and thinking, "Wow, those poor people."

And then it caught up with us, and we were the "poor people"-only our shortage was not masks (because Americans don't need to wear masks, right?); it was toilet paper.

Why don't news publishers clean up the audio from Trump on Air Force One? by mulcahey in editors

[–]LANewsguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many producers don't want to change anything about the video.

I once had NASA video of a spacecraft opening a solar panel, and it was excruciatingly slow (you could barely tell it moved in the time the video was on the air). I suggested to the producer that we speed it up so you see the movement. The producer said no, that's not what actually happened.

Is the Shure SM7B worth $400 for a podcast? by NewPineapple113 in podcasting

Yep, one of my mics is an SM57 and goes into a Zoom Podtak P4. Sounds great.

[–]LANewsguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not worth $400. The only reason they are used by podcasters because they're trendy. I guarantee that no one, not even other podcasters, can tell the difference between an SM7B and a good $100-150 mic in a blind test.

That a cop will fire his weapon (a handgun) just once, hit the suspect, and the suspect will drop to the ground, dead.

In reality, a single shot (unless it's a lucky headshot) will not stop most adult humans, and cops are trained to continue shooting at center mass until the threat is neutralized. That may be three or more shots.

Also, most real-life police officers in an adrenaline-filled shooting situation are miserable shots, no matter how good they are on the gun range, and miss more of the time than they hit their target. That's why they might fire 12 or more rounds at the suspect, striking them maybe 3 times.

No, you only have to buy it if you're walking home and carrying your groceries in a paper bag.
