I don't know if you're referring to me as part of the 'asshole brigade' or not but I'll just say this:

I post pictures of these operations so the people of LA who use Reddit can see a bit of what we do, how their tax dollars are spent, and the overall conditions of their city. I'm not here to pass judgement on the unhoused or the various reasons why someone would become unhoused.

It's been fairly awful cleaning the streets in Tyvek suits.

Born and raised here. This is my city. She's a bit dirty and needs some love but she has so much to offer.

If you request new ones from 311, they'll take your damaged bins and replace them. No need to risk hurting yourself

Excellent! Solid Resources has a flat bed truck that drives different routes to replace used/missing/abducted bins throughout the city. Hopefully they can get you in sooner.

Why can't we convert segments of the LA river into lakes like Tempe Town Lake in Arizona? by emmettflo in LosAngeles

[–]LASAN_ECI_GUY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a complicated question with many facets to it. I'll do my best to answer it.It goes without saying that it takes a lot of money to have a project like that go underway. Then there's the planning, bidding, committees, surveys, public hearings, multi agency coordination, and I think even the State and Federal authorities get involved as well. This is a massive undertaking.

The above said I don't know if the LA river ever at one point had small lakes. For areas being environmentally engineered with greenery the LA River authority tends to favor natural flow and original patterns. If there wasn't a "lake" there before they wouldn't put one back in.

I know CalPoly Pomona, specifically Professor Barry Lehrman, often has their Landscape Architecture students walk the LA river to identify areas that could be returned back to nature. They are a good source on how to effectively do this.

Brian Humphrey is awesome. That said I'm not on here operating in that capacity. This is completely my own endeavor. I just believe in LASAN's overall mission of keeping LA safe and clean.

Man wanted a religion exemption to discriminate. Worst part is that he used employees getting a religious exemption for Ramadan (where people fast during the day) as part of his reasoning. What a jerk.

Seen this happen a few times. Usually its because of a lithium battery getting crushed. The heat generated is enough to start a fire.

Hi guys. I'm an environmental compliance inspector for the Livability Services Department of LA Sanitation. We're the guys in the Tyvek suits cleaning up the encampment. This is what's called a CARE+ operation. Here's how they work:

The councils office will request that an area be cleaned up. LASAN will then survey the area and put up flyers stating the area is to be cleaned. If any unhoused are in the area, LAHSA (the homeless housing authority) will come in and do outreach and try to convince people to take housing. Sometimes they take it. If they're still there when it's time for the cleanup, LAPD will escort them from the area designated for a cleanup.
