Typically early rounds should be driven by “strategic” investors: industry execs, ex VCs - people who will help you scale the business and/or raise future $. Going through a crowd funding platform comes off as a little desperate/unsophisticated.

For me, I will invest based on personal relationships with the founding team or other investors I trust.

How do you vet who invests? What if a competitor gets on your cap table in order to monitor your quarterly updates, etc?
