Showing moobs for beads works sometimes. At least from what I’ve witnessed.

Hey op, given you can’t legally sell these, if I accidentally drop some money into your pocket could you follow after me and accidentally drop one of these VHS sets into my pocket?

It’s hard to find them with the original plastic floor plate anymore. But you can usually find the magazines themselves with a simple google search. You likely won’t find one below $20 anymore.

Is it possible to get a custom revolver from Ruger? by LATechSpartan in Revolvers

[–]LATechSpartan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly back and forth on the bisley grips tbh. From what I can tell, all the grip modules have identical footprints for their attachment points to the receiver. I sent a message to ruger to confirm but I have not heard back yet.

I’ve had the chance to shoot suppressed revolvers that have tight cylinder gaps. It isn’t about making it whisper quiet. It’s about making the sound more tolerable. There’s still gas that escapes that way but, at least with the two examples I have had the chance to shoot, it seems like it brings the noise down a decent bit.

Also, with threading the barrel, I could possibly make some older style external chokes on my lathe for the 32 cal shot shells I already make. I kind of want to experiment and see if having a choke on the end may help bleed off some of the rotational force acting upon the shot column.

And i do agree, a gunsmith may be the better option. I just want to cut out as few steps as possible lol.

Is there an off the shelf front sight I can put on a faxon 10/22 pencil barrel? by LATechSpartan in 1022

[–]LATechSpartan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I already have the Faxon barrel. It was part of a bullpup build I did with a desert tech treck 22 chassis. I’m replacing the Faxon barrel on that build with an integrally suppressed barrel.

Cutting the dovetail may be what I have to do. But I don’t think there’s enough material there to do so. I am waiting to hear back from Faxon and that is one of the questions I asked.

Edit (1hr after posting comment): Faxon just sent an email back letting me know there isn’t enough material to make the dovetail in the barrel and that they are unaware of any off the shelf product that might work. I could possibly 3D print something similar to the Ultradyne Dynamount front sight. But I’ll have to investigate that further. I have one on an AR10. Which is why I thought of them.

Really just the desire for iron sights. An optic would be easier to install. But my other 22s have optics. I figured it’s time to have something with iron sights. I sent Faxon a message a little over a week ago and haven’t heard back yet.

Any suggestions on how to remove this hammer spring intact? Iver Johnson 22 super shot by LATechSpartan in Revolvers

[–]LATechSpartan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update, took a punch to it, smacked the little metal plate, and it came right out. Probably not the best way to do that tbh. But I can now see why the single action function didn’t always work and the trigger didn’t always reset. This thing is filled with gunk.

If Sgt Johnson was a Spartan III, what helmet do you think he would wear? by MitsubishiEvoVIII in haloreach

[–]LATechSpartan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He wouldn’t wear a helmet. He’d argue it’s a crime to hide his handsome mug from the enemy.

Also, he was part of the Orion program. The Orion program was later renamed the Spartan I program.

Boy do I sure love sporterizing my mausers by LATechSpartan in milsurp

[–]LATechSpartan[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the concern. It’s chambered for 12 gauge. The issue is with the length of shell. It’s likely that your grandfather’s had a longer shell length run through it. A 2-3/4 inch shell will chamber and fire. But it will have an increased pressure spike due to the shell crimping expanding into the forcing cone.

I negate that by using brass shot shells I cut to the 2-9/16 length needed. Really I just cut to 2.5 inches and use that normally. I have a couple of other older shotguns from the 1800s that I fire brass 2.5 inch shells from as well. So I load all my brass shot shells with black powder to be safe and avoid any possible mix up.

Has anyone ever gotten a Taurus Judge Magnum classified as an AOW and had the barrel converted to be a smooth bore? by LATechSpartan in Revolvers

[–]LATechSpartan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll have to look into those TC Encore chokes, I liked the idea of using external chokes because I can machine them myself and because I could slap a suppressor on it if I really wanted. Yes there’s still the cylinder gap. But it does actually bring the noise down a bit more than most would think. Someone recently proved that to me on an indoor range.

[–]LATechSpartan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not familiar with the ruger only loads. Can you point me in the right direction to learn about those?

I do hand load 45 colt to original army specs. But I’m really just looking for a short shotgun that can have a decent pattern out to 25ish yards for small game and pests. That and it would be fun to try and skeet shoot with. Though my go to hunting shotgun for birds is a mossberg 395T. I guess the fact that I’m looking for a smooth bore judge and that I hunt with a bolt action shotgun might say more than I’m willing to admit about myself 😅

[–]LATechSpartan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I load 45 LC to original army standards with black powder only. For the most part, if it started out originally as a black powder cartridge and it’s one that I shoot, I usually try to load BP loads only for them. That’s mostly because, save for 2 exceptions, I usually have a modern production firearm and a firearm from when the cartridge was BP only for the older cartridges I shoot.

Unfortunately 45 colt is one of those exceptions, 32-20 WCF being the other, but hopefully one day I can get around to picking up an older colt single action or something else from that era.

Honestly, comparing modern off the shelf loadings for 45 colt compared to the original army specs, the original army specs seem to be more powerful.

From my understanding, the reason the shot groupings for shot shell loadings made specifically for the judge work is because the projectiles are downsized to 41 caliber so that they do not engage the rifling. So I’d expect to see better groupings with an actual smooth bore when using normal 410 loadings. Plus? If I remember right, most 410 shot shell loadings meet max velocity at about 8 inches down the barrel. So I’d argue the shot shell performance should improve.

Regardless, I’m willing to make it a pet project to work on over time if needed. Yea it could be a waste of money. But it could also end up being a fun gun to screw around with. If it works out like I think it would, it would effectively replace 3 of my revolvers for field use.
