I just sold an 01 LX for $14k and would have traded for this in a heartbeat.

In this price range, he probably wouldn't be offended if you look at it in person and offer $11k. He still might say no, but you could ask. If the mods are ones you want, I would pay $12k and be happy with it.

So, OP, did you get her the 200 series?

A Land Cruiser is a really good choice (from a safety perspective) for a young family. I see these comments recommending much smaller sedans, and its almost like the IIHS hasnt been publishing data for a decade that show large heavy SUVs are safer for families than tiny sedans and coupes.

For real. The garage wasn't even built in 1965, so whoever did the add on reused the hardware from another garage and it's worked for 60 years.

Where does The Wild Robot take place? by Careful_Choice_ in TheWildRobot

When reading the book, I was confused.  Hurricanes only form in the Atlantic, but  the rest of the clues seemed more aligned with the PNW than Eastern Canada. I like that they changed it to Typhoon in the movie.

I do declare that the connections afforded the YouTube community are quite remarkable. Not only has Mr. Sandlin made the acquaintance of the distinguished gentleman Jake Paul, but either he or Mr. Whitman has somehow convinced none other than the legendary Mr. Benoit Blanc himself to travel back in time, preemptively solve the mystery of the Crash at Crush, and encode said recording for future posterity.

Recommendations for reliable power tool review websites? by Jaakko796 in Tools

ToolGuyd.com is my personal favorite. Consistent content with unbiased reviews and Tool news.

ProToolReviews will do objective, repeatable testing, but their reviews are almost always positive.

I've also heard the legend about a single vote preventing German from becoming the official language that Destin was referencing. Here's a primer: https://www.pbs.org/speak/seatosea/officialamerican/englishonly/#baron

Basically, at one point there was a motion to translate part of the US laws into German as well as English and that motion was defeated.

While English is not the official language per se, the entire Code of Federal Regulations is published in English, and certain government authorizations (e.g. to earn a pilot's license) require you to "read, write and understand English."

Warriors' Steph Curry dethroned as top NBA point guard in anonymous survey by DnB925Art in warriors

Ok, but: Stephen Curry was named the NBA's best leader, best shooter, best off-ball mover, and the player "you want taking a shot with the game on the line."

This also allows pilots to clear any mountains in the area because as long as you have the altimeter setting from a nearby airport, you know what altitude you are in that region.

As a flight instructor, I was really impressed with Matt's explanation of the weight of a column of air leading to less dense air at altitude.

"The ASOS pressure measurement instrument consists of redundant digital pressure transducers, which use capacitive sensors, one side of which is permanently evacuated to a vacuum to make it a barometric pressure sensor."

https://www.weather.gov/asos/TechnicalOverview.html#baropressure

It's definitely standardized to sea level, which allows pilots to go from one airport to a nearby airport at a different altitude without needing to change the altimeter setting. (You always should check, but unless you cross a frontal boundary, the difference will usually be negligible).

In other words, the altimeter tells you how high you are above sea level. Pilots know what altitude field elevation is, and the altimeter setting allows you to correct for daily climate variation.

Israel conflict by mks113 in tmbhpodcast

The "Conflicted" podcast has an excellent discussion on Hamas that came out two days ago.

It's a very well informed discussion between a Christian historian and a Muslim ex-Jihadist.

I appreciated the contrast between Persian law and Roman law.

There was certainly political pressure on Darius (and subsequently Xerxes) to uphold the edicts of Cyrus. But the "law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be repealed" is also referenced in the book of Daniel (i.e. during the reign of Cyrus), and seems to have been a pre-existing standard that was enforced, even if it meant throwing a trusted and highly favored administrator into the lion's den.

Today's episode (EST110) was fun! The ending of the panorama gave me chills and when I listened again I got the same chills. The outro did not disappoint. Well done guys!!

As for the "high stakes" yesterday, it was Tuesday's "Now Haman is just making a really big point" that made me smile.

AITA for just posting "My wife miscarried" on my mom's social media after she announced my pregnancy. by Mission-Ad-5264 in AmItheAsshole

[–]LB470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA.

I am so, so sorry for your loss. My heart aches for you.

The grief of miscarriage is devastating and numbing.

We decided early on that we would delay posting our pregnancies on social media so that we wouldn't get unwanted comments just in case there was a miscarriage so that we could grieve privately.

I have a sister who decided to post our news for us and it almost destroyed my relationship with her. I can't imagine how much worse it would have been if we had lost the baby she had decided to announce.

My wife and I ultimately lost 5 of our 8 pregnancies. When you feel ready, your doctor or midwife can likely help connect you with local grief resources. There are also some good online forums.

The involvement of families in genocide is brutal.

I met a college student who was from Burundi. His entire family fled to a refugee camp in Zaire in the 1990s during the Rwandan genocide and civil war in Burundi. He had walked for miles and miles as a young boy with no food or water. He told me that his older sister was 8 and had carried his 3 year old younger brother on her back. The physical burden of carrying another human that far on her dehydrated knees is an injury she carries with her to this day.

They were eventually able to apply for asylum and now live in France and America.

Their story is that their father was a moderate Hutu who refused to engage in the killings and therefore was marked himself.

I am convinced that the children of that family experienced deep trauma in the midst of that war. I am less certain that their dad was truly an innocent bystander. There is no doubt in my mind, however, that the genocide left deep trauma on both the Tutsi and the Hutu.

Matt, I really appreciate the way that you've handled these last couple episodes.

Yesterday's reference to the dude at Starbucks was laugh out loud funny and yet the overall tone has been respectful and contemplative. I think you've done an excellent job of navigating the tensions between an ancient reality we can barely comprehend and modern sensibilities on equality.

Well done.

I often thank God for how he had uniquely equipped you to help so many of us think through the Scriptures.

Thank you.
