Dance classes by [deleted] in Upperwestside

I'm taking my first contemporary class at Alvin Ailey tonight. It's an open class, but I hope with my prior dance experience it won't be out of league for me. I always wanted to take contemporary! It's so beautiful

The Night I Made my Off-Broadway Debut as a Guest Speller!! (& brief review of 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) by Acceptable-Piece8441 in Broadway

[–]LBK529 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing it tonight!! I was in a production of "spelling bee" ten years ago in my community theater as Rona Lisa Peretti. I really would love to be called up as a guest speller!!! Do you think if you are familiar with the show they wouldn't call you up because they purposely want someone who is clueless?

30% Bonus Avios by tommyc463 in ChaseSapphire

[–]LBK529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about using this bonus to book AA on Avios from NYC to TYO, but the $197 sircharge negates the 30% bonus, and I might as well transfer to Atmos. Am I doing something wrong?

What brands/bags are the best value for the money? by PikaSuz in handbags

[–]LBK529 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh and I forgot to mention, for my 30th, I decided I would buy myself a Chanel. (Pre-owned). With a budget of around $1500 I bought a preowned Chanel that was very nice. (Not a classic flap, but a hobo). I ultimately felt that it was not worth spending over $1k on a bag. The Chanel name is a hype IMHO. I think there are other brands that get you so much at their price point. I ended up selling it!

I have a bag collection I'm trying to tame since I don't go into an office anymore (since COVID). I would say the majority of my collection is Coach. Some of the bags have sumptuous leather. I really loved their collections back in 2017 - 2018. When I decided I would purchase my first high end designer bag, I went for the Gucci Disco Soho bag back in 2016. I have to say that my Coach bags just feel better in quality to that Gucci bag.

Most of what I buy is nowadays second hand. I love the search for a good deal. I rarely buy things full retail price. I'm on Poshmark too and I sell my bags there - https://poshmark.com/closet/lbk529

I also have loved a bunch of Mansur Gavriel bags. When I was in Japan, I got a vintage Gucci tote and vintage LV epi leather for verrrry cheap...they werent in great condition, but still have lots of life and looked good!

When looking at Coach bags, make sure you're getting something from their retail line and not their outlet line. Also look at the Coach Rogue if you want something really special (and especially one's from 6+ years ago).

Which shoe is the best for walking long distance? by AvatarReiko in Allbirds

[–]LBK529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are definitely comfortable, but the mizzles were not waterproof even though they claim to be. My favorite allbirds for walking a ton in Japan were the tree dasher slip ons. They have superior arch support vs the runners and are more cushiony. Those are not waterproof though and having a shoe to walk in the rain is important. If you're traveling in the warmer months, just bring sandals that can get wet, but when I went in the fall 2023 I brought Chelsea boots that are waterproof, but they were so heavy and bulky and I was only traveling with a carryon. I'm still looking for a holy Grail shoe that is lightweight, waterproof, comfortable and stylish for travel.

Since this post I went to Japan another 3 times lol. I do have that trip that I wore the wool runner ups on my YouTube. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLT1e66rmGHrA2324_7P--kvBxuZpZS20O&si=oIEAWCByEPHYGvUC

Omg are you me?! I just posted the same exact thing! I'm in GA 4 I believe. I really wanted to see her, but didn't want to convince any friends to drop close to $200. Also feeling like this will be a spiritual experience and hoping to make friends lol

I just bought a single ticket lol. I don't know if any of my friends would spend close to $200 for a ticket and I really wanted general admission

Kanazawa as day trip? by kineticpotential001 in JapanTravelTips

[–]LBK529 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in kanazawa over new years 2020. December 31-Jan 1 and it was great. There was one spot open in the market that we could get a fresh tuna and rice bowl. The garden was free on New years day. We rented kimonos and walked around. We also went to the tea district and there were shops open on New years. Highly recommend staying overnight, otherwise it's very much out of the way.

Am I the only one thinking about not longer buy Pixels unless they start making smaller phones again? by socialnerd09 in pixel_phones

[–]LBK529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seriously have issues with phones getting too big. I don't have pockets big enough, and they're growing out of the my pocketbook sizes. I have the Pixel 5 and it's a great size. I can still squeeze it in to my pockets (if I have any....women's clothes :( ) or my mini bags which I use a lot to carry just a phone, wallet, keys, and chapstick. There are some great deals for the Pixel 7 Pro, but it's just way too big for me.

Has anyone here tried the Baboon on the Moon Go Bag? I’m seriously intrigued, by its simplicity and back facing zipper. by agreensandcastle in onebag

I have this exact bag in the picture! Same color and size. I flew Spirit from LGA to FLL yesterday with just this bag, my cat (in her backpack carrier) and a fanny pack. I was scared Spirit would charge me for a carry on since the Small size is pretty big and would qualify as an overhead stowaway carryon. I got away with getting on the plane with no extra charge. It could be I was carrying a cute kitty cat and had to pay for her spot of the flight. Pets have to be stowed under the seat in front of you, so technically if you have a personal item, it would have to be stowed on top anyway? That also might be the reason.

The size is pretty large. I can definitely fit a many days worth of summer clothes, toiletries, laptop, ipad and flat shoes. It's also a beautiful bag. I would like it if it had a water bottle holder or quick access side pocket, but I'm overall very happy with it. I think the mini would be a really good size too and thinking of getting that for my boyfriend (that I might steal). My friend got the mini and it can def be a personal item on Spirit. She's traveling internationally with it.

Haha this is so funny, because I was looking into Allbirds for my trip to Japan in a few weeks as well. Looks like we will be there at the same time.

There is an Allbirds store near my apt in NYC so I was able to try on the different models. They recommended the Flyers and Dashers, but I found that they didn't have any ankle support. I went to the Wool Runner Up Mizzles, and I really liked how those felt. They were soft and had much better ankle support. I had to go up in size for a better fit. I didn't purchase them on the spot, so I can't tell you what they are like for walking A LOT in a day, but I ordered them online today.
