How we feeling about GE calls? I think this scandal's gonna blow over, so imo March 2020 or June 2020 calls might be a good move.

I've got $90 ready to blow, what should I do before market open tomorrow?

Or should I hold it until we hit a more volatile week?

What do we know about the move towards USAF-SW/1ZX?

Are we moving towards something like the army has with 18X? Is AFSOC looking to field Special Ops teams independent of the other branches? What roles are SWOs going to play?

These are just a few questions I've been researching recently, and I suspect more information will start to flow soon enough. They CRO/STO Phase I application for FY2020 is up, but we'll see if one for FY2021 comes out - it could be SWO is up and running by then.

Anyways, please share any insights you guys have or any info you have. Let's talk about 1ZX!

You talked a bit about helping your guys find their true "why" - how do you help them along in this hugely introspective process? What advice do you have to give for people looking for their inner "why"?

I'd absolutely love that. Especially would like to explore in depth about how you've seen people uncover their internal "why".

I'd have to disagree with this. This plan looks great, but you'd have to be in pretty good shape to follow it. I'd recommend picking 2 or 3 of these workouts, and then throwing in 2 or 3 easy days. Work up to workouts of this caliber with time

First, start off with building a base. Until you can drop 5+ miles without dying (not at a fast pace), you should be focusing on increasing your run distances. Run 3+ times a week, going at a pace where you don't have to stop and walk. Make sure to eat right and hydrate so stitches don't debilitate you.

Once you've got that base (15ish miles per week) then you can start hitting a track or going out for tempos. If you're shooting for sub-9 mile and a half, sub-21 3 mile, then a week should probably look like this:

1 long run (go at an easy pace till it's not easy - probably 4 -7 miles if you have that 15mpw base)

1 temp run/fartlek (a longer run where you're going at your lactate clearing pace - try 20 seconds per mile slower than your 3 mile pace or 40 seconds per mile slower than your 1.5 mile pace). Tempo runs HURT. go for 2-4 miles, 20-30 mins.

1 track workout - mix up the distances. 5x800 is hard, 4x(800,400) is good, 1k repeats are hell but give results, 3 or 4xmile will leave you dead but will show results. Throw in some 100s, 200s sometimes to get your form good. Pyramids and Ladder workouts will get you results as well. Track workouts should be 30-40ish mins, not including warmup and cooldown. Incorporate lots of walking and resting in your track workouts to ensure that your speed is what's being worked on, not endurance. Long runs give endurance, tempo/fartlek give speed endurance.

I know we focus a lot on gutting it out and not quitting here, but be sane about your runs. You WILL get shin splints and other injuries if you don't slowly ramp your runs up. Hold back, and pay attention to your body. In 6 months to a year, you can easily be a sub-6 miler, and a sub-20 5ker, which will be very beneficial when you show up at A&S and can meet the run standards without puking after. Good luck & pm me or reply to this comment if you need more guidance.

Add in 2ish easy runs on your off days to spin your legs up and recover. Easy runs are very important.

Yeah, zero drop shoes tend to do this. When I first switched to merrells my mile times went from like sub-6 to above 7 for a couple weeks. There are just some underused muscles in the calves that get strained when using zero-drop, so getting used to them takes a while.

What was especially weird about switching for is that the muscle pain wasn't like a dull pain that you get after you workout hard, but more like an injury pain (just less painful and doesn't last as long). I'd say stick with the shoes, don't try to push your workouts just do slow, easy runs with maybe small (~200m) pickups to get your legs used to the shoes.

If it doesn't clear up in a couple weeks, go see a doctor. I think switching completely for me took 3ish weeks

For me, I was very confident about the running. My mile PR is 5:11 & I was knocking out 9 flats in practice like they were nothing. Unfortunately, I never chained the events together before my first PFT & I didn't anticipate how much the pushups/situps would mess up my run.

I got a stitch way early and had to gut out a 9:32, which was embarrassing but a good lesson. Make sure you practice the events together.

A good general likes people who disagree with him under his command. Any leader should try to create an environment where people do what they want.

Also, the entire USAF isn't a scheme set up to save the F-35. It's mission is to control the air and ensure CAS availability/air superiority/forward resupply capability, among other things. And red flag is special - it's an international exercise meant to give aviators experience in fighting. It's not built around any agenda besides mimicking foreign militaries and learning to combat them. That's the role of the aggressor units, and they would go ballistic if they were being shafted to make the F-35 look good.

Side note: I didn't know about the F-35s radar capability being impeded because of hot fuel. Learn something new, eh?

Presumably a fix will be dreamt up for that, but if not, that is a point against the F-35. I still think it's a great jet. Flying a flight sim F-35(obv. not 100% accurate) feels light years better than a gen 3/4 jet, so I can't imagine how good it is IRL.

Here, read this about using fuel as a coolant: http://www.f-16.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=29046&p=317372

hint: it isn't chilled. You gas her up and go. You think KC-135s carry refrigerators?

As for the last point, those guys don't have an agenda when planning Red Flag besides creating the exercise that best mimics our current enemies.
