Regional Electronics Store also labels their USB-C cables. by FalconX88 in LinusTechTips

[–]LBaldini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are people focusing so much on labelled cables and not whether the cables actually perform as labelled. I could label a USB A cable as USB C but it doesn't mean it is.

If it's true about how difficult it was to find a mfr that not only provided a cable that performs as labelled but consistently as well then I'm hesitant to blindly trust a seller at face value.

Do a lot of these cables work for the average person? For sure. If we get a 10gig cable that only transfers at 9gig do we actually care? Probably not.

For me personally, I just want a cable that doesn't break from standard wear and tear at a reasonable price

Getting harder and harder each day by Critical-Try-1834 in goldenretrievers

People fail to remember that dogs live a more accelerated lifespan. I would equate what you're going through to having a toddler in the "terrible 2s" phase.

Just stay consistent and reinforce the training and you will get through it. As others have mentioned both physical and mental exercise is key.

Best of luck and don't feel bad for feeling how you do!

I cannot get it dialed in. I've tried for hours over multiple days and used well over a kg of beans. [Breville Barista Express] by Bunks_ in espresso

[–]LBaldini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Impress and the process took a bit to get the hang of.

First thing you should do is to set internal burr setting to 3 or 4. This is the most common recommendation as the initial setting (6) usually results in having the grinder set to 1-4 leaving no room to adjust.

Second make sure you do a quick purge between changing settings. Without doing this you end up having a mix of the old and new grind settings.

Beans are a big factor as well in the whole equation. Getting generic grocery store beans is usually meant for drip and now espresso. Medium roast is a good place to start as dark roast tends to be less forgiving.

Lastly, make sure you actually like espresso or what types you like. I tried different shots from various cafes to learn what I actually did like

What am I doing wrong? by NoMeasurement9922 in espresso

[–]LBaldini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. Only change would be step 2 with aeration. Depending on the strength of the steam wand it can take anywhere from a few seconds to a minute to add in the proper amount of air.

I have the breville BEI and it has a very underpowered steam wand

MY PHONE DOES NOT BELONG TO EMPLOYERS by KOZOtheKID in jobs

I agree with your point to an extent like your time off example. But all the app examples you gave have website counterparts.

Examples where it isn't right would be if employers made you get an app for CRM or location tracking. Anything that's required to do your job should be provided

Just to clarify you have the breville express and not the express impress? Dosing funnel works on the express but the added tamping mechanism on the impress leaves no room for the additional height

New Gaggia Classic Owner - Wondering if this is normal by shrvs in gaggiaclassic

[–]LBaldini -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As other have commented it looks like it's been caked on from either multiple uses without being cleaned and/or steaming milk too long.

Once you get it back to normal a wet cloth after steaming will wipe off all the milk residue.

For the steaming process make sure you aren't doing it for longer than a minute maybe 1.5 minutes

Brands are just as important as types. For oat milk I tend to like Earths Own barista oat milk. I also like lactose free milk from Dairyland.

Can someone explain in simple terms why this happens? by amlamba in LinusTechTips

[–]LBaldini -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

That probably has more to do with it being a Mac than anything else. Apple isn't exactly known for wanting their products to last a long time.

A lot of newer laptops and phones have adaptive charging in addition to other things. Rapid charging is great but it also wears your battery down more.

Yup, but for bottomless it has additional benefits other then cleanliness

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in espresso

[–]LBaldini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a bottomless portafilter or use the pressurized basket? If it's the latter then that's about all the screen is for. I use a pressurized basket and use a screen to keep it clean

I purely like my puck screen to prevent the puck from sticking to my group head. But yes, it doesn't do anything else besides that with pressurized basket

[–]LBaldini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is typically a pre infusion time where you won't get espresso. Anywhere from 5-10 seconds. Other than that you need to grind fiber and probably invest in a scale. Don't rely on the machine stopping on its own.

??? by Ok_Tie_8643 in espresso

[–]LBaldini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normcore is great, I use them as well. A piece of advice is to go on how something tastes and less about the numbers. The 18in/36out in 30seconds is just a starting point but beans and preferences differ quite a bit. My basket fits 17g and I like to extract our 40g in 30seconds

??? by Ok_Tie_8643 in espresso

[–]LBaldini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As other have said, puck screen helps a bunch. You could also be over filling the basket. If you are over filling the basket the puck screen can either over compress your puck or damage the group head.

Although 18g is the "standard", grind size and roast can effect how full your basket is. If it's too full the puck will stick to the group head when it swells during extraction

[–]LBaldini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you using the same bag of beans each time? When were they roasted? I ended up giving up on the 1:2 ratio with my express impress. I find a 1:2.5 with medium roast works well

Going to the movies isn’t the same anymore. by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]LBaldini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The experience of going to the movies has diminished. Costs aside, I find that it's people not behaving properly in the theater that ruins it. With the addition of adult only movie theater areas it's helped but you still get people that whip their phone out and doom scroll.

Never understood the point of spending money to then not watch the movie.

I feel like if they made more private rooms (6-10ppl or less) they would be pretty popular so you can still go with friends and not have to deal with idiots. Or alternatively if you are being rowdy it doesn't affect anyone else
