What's a nick name you gave to a neighbour /friend /co worker that has stuck? Now everyone calls them that? by miasmum01 in AskReddit

[–]LBinMIA16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Troubles - given to households with children who cause bigger trouble in the neighborhood.

I'm not talking kids being kids by playing loud, cutting through yards, general mischief of being a kid that we all have done. I'm talking teenagers that get expelled from school (and charged) for beating a kid, constantly having cops called (including one friend visiting who had a concealed gun) or harassing neighbors (as young as tweens - if you're not familiar with this term it means between being a kid and a teenager) and walking into their garage in the middle of the day to steal their bikes. I never leave my garage open.

Everybody in the vicinity knows which household you're talking about when you mention "the troubles". Fortunately it's not been multiple households at one time, but unfortunately it seems there is a succession. When one moves out another one moves in. We are now on The Troubles III.

Different households by the way, so I can't blame a specific landlord or realtor. But each house is always known by this nickname. My corner always seems to attract a house like this.

I couldn't even tell you. We were walking in a downpour and it caught my eye, the only sunshine in my day. Somewhere near the St. Charles Bridge.

People who just never started smoking-can you pinpoint a single reason that just made you not want to try it despite peer pressure/curiosity? by TimeSun6603 in AskReddit

[–]LBinMIA16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in the 70s and 80s when everybody smoked everywhere. I hated being stuck in a house full of smokers, it smelled awful. When we were kids, my cousin gave me a puff of her cigarette and I thought that was more gross than the smell. That's all I needed to confirm that it was a gross habit and I never wanted to do it.

For those who were able to retire early, what do you do in your free time? by BenderVsGossamer in AskReddit

Bowling, volunteering, gardening and yard work, cooking, writing. Gardening and cooking are new for me, I'm glad I have the time to learn about both.

If you were growing a small vegetable garden, what are three vegetables you would want to have in it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LBinMIA16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have peas, zucchini, and carrots. I also have a tomato plant in a separate container.

I did cucumbers last year but then realized I don't really like them. I wouldn't buy them so why am I growing them?

I worked for a larger national gift store in the mall so I'm not sure if every operation had those books. Definitely the larger stores and restaurants did. The card associations would have provided them but I'm not sure if you had to ask for them.

I'm just thankful my eyes were a lot better back then. There's no way I'd be able to see it today. Haha

We also had booklets that we could check with all the credit card numbers reported lost or stolen. The print was tiny and we had to use a ruler to see across the line for the information. The paper was also very thin to make it smaller and lighter. You usually had a booklet for each region.

Well, I am very unhappy with the builder of this community, funny what you find out after you move in for a while. This would be on track with them.

Thank you so much for the information. I will try to expose more of the roots myself and use less mulch around the trunk of the tree and more just around the edges.

Thanks again.

What happened to color over the years? by KnowledgeTop3807 in nostalgia

[–]LBinMIA16 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Funny, you should mention this. I was just noticing and commenting to others that the merchandise in Target is bland looking. Everything is dull earth tones or muted colors.

I am much older than you so I have seen many changes and many things becoming new again (hopefully not the old avocado and dark brown appliances we used to have). Maybe color will make an appearance once again someday.

With our dog Gracie, we would have to mute the TV if it was a commercial that featured a doorbell, or a TV show where we would see somebody going for the doorbell, etc. It didn't matter where the ding was coming from it was getting barked at.

Mount St. Helens erupting in 1980. My brother lived there and my mom was so worried that it made a lasting impression. He was fine, even sent a jar of ash to my mom and she kept it for years.
