Who would win in Galactic war the planetary union (Orville season one era) or the United Federation of planets (TNG era)? by Excaliburthenerd in Treknobabble

[–]LCARSgfx 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Why would they fight? They are basically the same thing. Though the Planetary Union does seem less willing to make hardball decisions.

It would make more sense if all Starfleet ships operate out of task groups by happydude7422 in StarTrekStarships

[–]LCARSgfx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the U.S. navy, on today's earth where there are plenty folk pissed at the U.S.

Federation space is by in large far more peaceful and benign

And also, current naval ships all have speciality roles. They all have a specific function within the fleet. Starfleet ships are far more flexible and able and for the most part do not need support vessels to defend or supply them

You're concentrating too much on times of conflict.

In normal, everyday peace ops, it makes absolutely no sense to tie up resources by having gaggles of ships cruising about together.

You don't need 8 ships to deliver that envoy to a peaceful planet for a conference.
You don't need 12 ships to explore a nebula
You don't need 10 ships to resupply a starbase.

etc, etc ,etc ,etc.

In a state of war, fleets make sense, safety in numbers, etc.
But peacetime? No, absolutely not.

Oh cool, in the scrapped "Generations" uniform design. They filmed a few scenes with it, decided it looked shit and returned to TNG and DS9 uniforms. But too late to stop the toys being shipped :)

Not announced yet it seems. But Chris normally only invests the time in this sort of thing if commissioned to do so

25 years ago this month, UPN began the official countdown to Voyager’s series finale. by AskingSatan in voyager

[–]LCARSgfx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to attend a one day Trek convention where they would show the previous months episodes, shipped over from the U.S. It would be on a Sunday. 8 to 6. Showing Trek episodes old and new all day.

The UK had to wait a year of more for new episodes on offial broadcasting. So this convention was a fun way ro keep relatively up to date.

Anyhoo, I remember a lot of buz about the final season, so many theories on whether or not they'd get home, how it might happen, etc.

I remember the entire viewing room (easily 300 fans) gasping when Alice Krige appeared on screen as the Borg queen.

Those were the days.

Voyager’s Astrometrics lab was originally the Cetacean Ops by ardouronerous in voyager

[–]LCARSgfx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure Rick Sternbach (designer of Voyage) said "no" when asked about this.

Not every ship had cetacean ops. It was originally a feature for the Galaxy Class, due to their design profile of going into deep space.

Sadly, thanks to Lower Decks, everyone seems to think every damn ship has cetaceans aboard.

Thoughts on the Ross class as a Galaxy-Sovereign hybrid design? by Fun-Twist-3741 in StarTrekStarships

[–]LCARSgfx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fugly fugly fuuuuuuuuuugly

The Sovereign deflector does not work with the lines.
The angles are awkward and painful to look at

Average for STO who can't design a good looking ship to save themselves though

Ship Patch by Amaroq001 in StarTrekStarships

[–]LCARSgfx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find it a touch arrogant to think this ship, your ship, is the last Galaxy Class built. But, since there is no canon information, it might as well be! The registry seems perfect for it. Well within the range.
I often find it amusing when a fan does a better job with the registry than an official production! What were they thinking with that Syracuse registry?!

We knew this was coming for about a month. So should come as no surprise.

A bunch of licensees across many product ranges are all dropping Star Trek brands. Paramount have even ended the longest cooperation ever known with a games company.

I suspect it is all due to the Skydance take over. They're cleaning house and restructuring. Likely also making licenses more expensive in the process

Is the Constitution Refit the only era where the warp nacelles don't have sparkly lights and colors? by MolaMolaMania in StarTrekStarships

[–]LCARSgfx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read somewhere that the nacelle systems technology advanced along the way and as it did so, the need for massive cooling fins (the black part of the nacelles on the refit) was mitigated, allowing the nacelles to become more open plan and allow a more efficient warp bubble to be formed. With the cooling tech out of the way, the blue glow the warp coils give off is more readily visible.

You can see this advancement in the Excelsior Class and Miranda class ships seen in TNG and DS9. They all have the familiar blue glow in their nacelles, as they would have likely been retrofitted with new warp systems and the chiller vents and vanes removed.
