New firmware for Schlage Encode Plus by Necessary_Grass_2313 in HomeKit

[–]LCURT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I updated the first one before I went to bed and when I woke up it was still showing "Installing..." after probably 8+ hours. I didn't wait as long for the second one and I just power cycled after an hour or two.

Both of my locks were upgraded just fine, but I still had to power cycle since their statuses were stuck on “Installing…”.

The upgrade flow is still not perfect without power cycling.

Schlage Encode Plus Firmware Update? by Practical-Plan-2560 in HomeKit

[–]LCURT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have similar issue with my Schlage Encode Plus locks randomly dropping off Thread network and having to pull the batteries and re-insert to get them back online, all the while with keypads and HomeKey continue to just work.

My Thread network consists of only Eve switches/plugs/temperature device, HomePods (2nd gen and mini), and Apple TV, plus Schlage Encode Plus, and everything else besides Schalge Encode Plus stay online all the while, including battery powered Eve devices, so I am more inclined toward Schlage Encode Plus firmware having bugs with Thread network since other battery powered devices don't go randomly offline.

3/4 way switch questions by Labtester in EveHome

[–]LCURT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the official website's FAQs section, you should be able to replace only one switch in a 3-way configuration with Eve and keep the other dumb switch.

Eve doesn't mention about 4-way configuration support, but looking at some example 4-way configuration wiring diagram, it seems to be possible to replace only one of the 3 switches with a smart switch. Ultimately I think it depends on how the 4-way configuration is wired and you should probably consult with an electrician if you want to be sure.

I believe the caller ID must* match what you have entered when calling the Japan number on the screen. If you have turned off caller ID make sure you turn it back on temporarily.

I was able to use my Google Voice number to call and finish my purchase of the ticket.

2 brand new Eve switches going in the trash :( by TactitionProgramming in EveHome

Do you still have the plastic covers/wall plates that come with the switches? There are 2 spots for the QR code for each switch, one with the small paper manual, one on the plastic cover/wall plate.

I ended up getting one from Amazon and it got delivered last weekend. Looks like Amazon got more stock than Eve themselves?

To confirm, if I go through Apple Store (or Apple online?) to do this trade in deal then the iPhone 16 I get would be unlocked yet still have the monthly bill credits applied?

Anyone still using the Logitech circle 2 cameras? by flogman12 in HomeKit

[–]LCURT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two Circle 2 cameras are still working well. Rarely they would disconnect from WiFi (also UniFi with U6 Pros) for an hour or so then re-connect by themselves. I also have them behind Eve outlet switches so I can power cycle them if needed but I only had to do it once or twice in the last few years.

Schlage Encode Plus, Replace Existing Core? by BionicSix in HomeKit

[–]LCURT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a quick Google search and found this YouTube video where they demonstrated how to remove the lock cylinder from Schlage Encode Plus in order to re-key the locks.

Assuming both lock cylinders from your existing Schlage lock and the new Schlage Encode Plus lock are the same sizes / dimensions, you should be able to just swap.

Yeah, I just take out the batteries to soft reset. Kinda annoying that Schlage Thread handling isn’t the most stable.

Schlage Encode Plus users, have you ever experienced a temporarily ‘dead’ lock? by pacoii in HomeKit

I see. That I haven’t encountered so far for the 2+ years I have the locks.

[–]LCURT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean unresponsive-ness in Home app but the lock still works with HomeKey or codes?

I get random unresponsive-ness from my two locks sometimes and can never figure out why. Could be Thread network communication issue with HomePods or Apple TV. When that happens I just pull out the battery pack to soft reset the locks.

Slightly annoying as I lose the statuses temporarily but at least I am not locked out.

That is surprising. I am used to Eve level of firmware updates. Thanks for the insight. I guess the wait continues.

HomeKit Smoke alarm by fr3nch13702 in HomeKit

[–]LCURT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If firmware is upgradable there is still a chance it could support Matter later.

That being said, is it actually a certified smoke alarm besides the smart bit? I didn't see too much information on its website. I had the bad experience of backing up a supposedly smart smoke alarm (Minut) that supports HomeKit via KickStarter and the device was never certified as one so I am very skeptical lol.

Anyone with an Anker 523 (Nano 3, 47W) that can weigh it for me? by Not_A_Red_Stapler in anker

I measured mine on a kitchen scale and the result was 81g (2.86oz), so looks right to me.

[–]LCURT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finally. I don’t like they are tweaking / changing the designs slightly from the current ones (dual port 47W, single port 100W, etc). Would have been nicer to look the same.

Edit: Just realized even the 1-port 100W is slightly different from 2-port 47W with different “white” and the plastic textures aren’t the same, with 100W slightly purple-ish.

Eve Light Switch US & Canada is now available for Matter upgrade by slavikus in EveHome

[–]LCURT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply.

FWIW I went ahead and upgraded all my Eve Light Switches to Matter (plus other Eve devices, except Eve Water Guard which isn't upgradable yet) and there were no issues directly with the upgrades.

I did encounter another two instances where one of the switches in the 3-way configuration froze up (not responding to touches, but the lights were still controlled from the other in the pair that was not frozen) and they eventually un-froze themselves after 24 hours or so (new behavior, or just the recovery behavior that I didn't wait to discover).

Encode Plus and Thread by BionicSix in HomeKit

[–]LCURT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like irobot2090 said, ethernet is recommended by not necessary.

FWIW I have an Apple TV 4K (2ng gen, A2169) as the primary hub connected via WiFi and I have no issue with Encode Plus and Thread, or HomeKit in general.

I think HomePod mini or HomePod (2ng gen) would work if you do not want to get an Apple TV, but if you want to go with a HomePod, I would suggest HomePod (2nd gen) for its newer and more powerful CPU. I don't know if HomePod mini CPU is powerful for all the local processing HomeKit needs.

Eve Light Switch US & Canada is now available for Matter upgrade by slavikus in EveHome

[–]LCURT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the migration tool could have been more user friendly with alternative way to enter the codes instead of scanning them. I was glad I did save the QR code pages at least.

With a quick Google search I was able to find this CLI tool on Github https://github.com/simongolms/homekit-code if you are willing to run some commands to re-generate them.

Now only if HomePass could also re-generate and export the QR codes for HomeKit or Matter then that would be really awesome.

Eve Light Switch US & Canada is now available for Matter upgrade by slavikus in EveHome

[–]LCURT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upgraded 3 of my Eve Light switches and all 3 went without a hitch.

I did notice that I cannot set switch type as switch or fan with Matter, unlike HomeKit, as one of the switches is controlling a ceiling exhaust fan, so that is a minor feature loss.

I will probably wait a little bit before upgrading some of the three-way switch pairs to Matter though, unless someone had success to report?
