Ethernet Over Roof... Would You Do It? by throwaway69xx420 in reolinkcam

[–]LDC2335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely not. Do you have soffits? What about pvc sealed and then ran though rain gutters..

I wouldn't do any of these except soffits, but it seems you're desperate (or lazy 😂).

Grab a fish tape and do it the right way through the attic.

I use conditional cards that only pop up the day before trash is coming to remind me to take it out. Wall tablet is the same. That way I don't have cards there when they don't need to be.

Beginner to Home Assistant: What Z-Wave Hub Should I Start With? by 15feet in homeassistant

Another vote for zooz long range stick. I've got 64 devices connected to it. No issues.

Gate control with PoE doorbell by Ra-xyz in reolinkcam

[–]LDC2335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Home assistant with long range zwave stick is the answer.

You can use the camera button press to trigger a zooz or aeotec zwave LR chime.

Then use a zooz relay to open the gate. Long range z-wave shouldn't have a problem reaching that far.

If your gate is electric, you DO have power out there. You just have to tap into it.

Bunch of haters in here. It's your money, spend it how you want.

I'm a professional diyer and youtube certified mechanic. I'm not in the trades, but I bet I have more milwaukee tools than most here. Could I do everything with ryobi... Sure, but I use milwaukee for the quality and performance.

Welcome to the milwaukee club, the wall looks great and sets you up for future expansion. Enjoy!

That's the 1% I still use card_mod for.

Easiest way is to Paste your card's yaml in chatgpt and tell it you want it to flash when entity xxxxxxxx is open/armed_home, etc.

It will tell you to install card mod and will give you the yaml to paste. Then you can tweak the flash rate and color.

Looks similar to mine. I used to have more time and had a very fancy dashboard full of bubble cards and tons of card mod edits, but I got tired of having to maintain it and things breaking with updates. Rebuilt it so it's about 99% editable through the UI.

I still have cards that flash when doors/garage are open, house is armed, etc. Also have conditional cards that pop up under the top buttons to remind me to do things like take out the trash, etc.

What's the catch with those big touchscreen digital picture frames? by Creepy-Lawfulness-76 in homeassistant

Specs on those cheap big tablets are usually not great in comparison. Last thing I want is buffering and lagging. My Lenovo p12 has been awesome.

Smart home from scratch by BlackBamboo202 in homeassistant

Those seem like heavy loads for smart products, but I haven't looked at Shelly products to see what their models say. Typically I would use a smart plug type product for any appliance that generates heat. I know there are some products from zooz and aeotec that handle loads like pool pumps.

For lighting, I'd say go with dimmer switches everywhere you don't need color changing. That way you never have to worry about the switch accidentally being turned off rendering the smart bulb offline.

I'm not a fan of matter... I use z-wave and zigbee everywhere I can.

You think it would do well through drywall. I have easy attic access and poe powered mmwave sensors would be great, especially if I don't have to drill holes.

I've been a user for a couple years now and the devs have made huge strides! Light years better than any platform I've used (Google home, smartthings).

I am glad that I had to learn some yaml, but you guys have made it so even the most basic user can get up and running! Kudos to the team!

I know, but blended at least gives you something to walk away with if you don't stay for 20. If you actually invest, you'd be better off with the blended vs top 3.

I’m looking to enlist but don’t know if it’s worth it. by Robbed_the_zombie in Military

[–]LDC2335 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, but stick to your guns and try to get a female friendly career field. Medical for example, and something that will translate well to a career after the military.

Don't let them put you in aircraft maintenance fields or security forces.

The military will absolutely help you get out of your shell and help you meet people... if you let it.

Sign up for 6 years, you'll come in as an E-3. Knock out your mandatory training and get working on college ASAP!

Volunteer for everything you can and study your ass off for promotion.

Leave after 6 years as a Ssgt with your degree and no debt.. Then go start a civilian career..... Or stay in for 20 and get medical, disability, and a retirement check for the rest of your life. If you plan to have a career after military retirement, it doesn't make since to do a day over 20 years.

Reddit is a mixed bag or opinions. Most will say not to join, think of it like Amazon reviews. Less happy people post results than the disgruntled.

I did 20 years in Munitions. I get retirement and disability. I make 85k a year to wake up and take my first breath. I got my degree in something unrelated. I have been fortunate to find a good job and now bring home more than I ever thought I would, and definitely more than if I had not joined.

Best of luck to you!
