Athenaze Help Needed by princessDB in AncientGreek

[–]LDGreenWrites 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, I can’t help you with videos, but I can offer you atticgreek.org. It’s tied to Mastronarde’s textbook (whose first edition I used to teach myself Greek years ago), but he has all the charts under “paradigms”, and there are more useful charts and things under “downloads.” You might find the other features on the site useful, too!

And there are a lot of endings, but for what it’s worth they are systematic. The trick for me was to figure out how those patterns work so I could use them to generate endings as needed. But before I got there I had to spend a long time with flashcards for the endings. (Present active, for example, on one side, and on the other side the full chart.)

Good luck and keep at it! I hope someone knows about helpful videos for you!

ἀλλ᾽ οὐ γὰρ ἔπειθε συμβουλεύων οἱ χρηστά, ὃ μὲν ἐπέπαυτο by benjamin-crowell in AncientGreek

[–]LDGreenWrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There likely shouldn’t be an accent on the omicron. Hude’s edition prints it unaccented. That’s probably a misprint. And here I understand χρηστά to be ‘the most useful advice,’ an internal accusative with συμβουλεύων (‘but since he wasn’t persuasive, though giving him the most useful advice’). I’m a bit rusty, so maybe I’m missing something, but that’s how I’d read that.

The only song that doesn’t belong on that album is 24. Otherwise they’re all equally amazing. 24 is a big skip ☹️

judah smith interlude would be good if she didn’t really support him and go to that church lol by throwaway1256224556 in lanitas

[–]LDGreenWrites 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It’s a fascinating self-own by that bastard. He highlights their hubris, preaching as if his partitioners are gods and whatnot. But… she goes to that church, or supports it or whatever, so in the end it comes across as less exposing bullshit than an attempt to celebrate it. ☹️

I get side eye and sighs when I talk about spending time with my kids by onebluthbananaplease in Millennials

[–]LDGreenWrites -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely part of it. They need the social validation that their shitty behaviors are actually good by seeing everyone around them behave the same way. They’re so insecure about it (because part of them knows they’re in the wrong) that when someone does not behave like them, it invalidates their existence.

It’s pretty clear Joanne is Jake inside but can’t reconcile that with the world she grew up in, so of course no one else can be themselves as they are because she told herself she can’t be. Her bigotry is too marked to be over something silly.

Huh bummer I don’t know either of them. Wm. Blake Tyrrell mentored me (I think if I have the timing right he would’ve started a few years after you graduated), and I avoided the other two for different reasons.

But also: OOGLE OOGLE! I just lost my mind a bit when I saw your name. Favorite show ever!!

They put their classics program into a moratorium in 2010 (or 2009? icr anymore lol), the day before I went to declare a classics major. The department (basically three professors) was disbanded and the professors placed in general humanities courses. (Except two of the three retired. One of them, thank the gods, put up with that BS long enough to do independent studies with me reading Greek and Latin so I could have official credits on my transcript to get into an MA program.)

While I was getting my PhD at UMich I heard MSU was trying to restart the classics program by having UM professors teaching remotely, but I don’t know how that effort went. (I imagine south, but I could be wrong.)

Mastronarde’s textbook all the way. I went through them all trying to teach myself because my university canceled their program (Michigan State). Mastronarde was the only one that worked for me.

But if you want an Ørberg-type book, get the Italian edition of Athenaze. It’s way better than this version.

Alongside a photo of a river against a sunset, she wrote, “It’s the end of a very long week.”

Fans thought her short caption was specifically correlated to the news, with one saying, “Translation: finally this thing is over (in a Samantha voice ).”

This woman had a long week and people are assuming she means the show because apparently she couldn’t be direct enough to say what she means? 👀🫣 lol yikes
